Victoria Theatre - Halifax
2 Fountain Street, Halifax, West Yorkshire HX1 1BP
21-01-2012
The Victoria Theatre is quite a little gem, located in the centre of Halifax it makes for easy access, although during popular shows car parking can be a problem as the on street parking soon fills up.
The seating arrangement in the theatre means that a good view is guaranteed, there are some seats with a restricted view but this will have been pointed out at the time of booking.
Depending what is showing, seating or standing will be available downstairs in the stalls together with seating in the circle and above in the balcony.
Some of the seat numbers have worn off, especially in the circle, which can be problematic and normally results in people sitting in the wrong seats.
The bar can also be very busy, and very warm in summer months. Drinks can be pre-ordered for the interval but you still have to battle your way to the front of the queue to collect them.
Ticket prices for the shows are generally quite reasonable and the theatre has a wide variety of shows to see. Tickets can be booked at the theatre box office or on the internet and collected at the door or posted out.
Dog & Gun Inn - Oxenhope
Denholme Road, Keighley, West Yorkshire BD22 9SN
21-01-2012
The quality and variety of food on offer at the Dog and Gun is without question and put simply, it’s superb.
You only have to see how quickly the car park fills up to note that this pub is very popular with those seeking good food to eat.
A good selection of Timothy Taylors beers are available although if you are just going in for a drink you may feel a little self concious if you decided to sit at a table to enjoy your pint as these are often required for the diners, better to stand at the bar.
The food is priced a little higher than your standard pub menus but quality costs and you most definitely get quality here.
Pizza Hut - Halifax
Charlestown Road, Halifax, West Yorkshire HX3 6AB

Pizza Hut is not the place to go if you fancy a quiet meal, especially early evenings when the schools have just emptied. The accoustics in this place are terrible and everyone seems to be shouting to make themselves heard.
The staff are friendly and attentive and the meals are quick to arrive. The salad bar is poor value for money even though you are allowed to return and refill your plate. The choice of salad is a bit basic and the sauces to go with the salad aren’t labelled so you have no idea what you are putting on your salad.
I ordered one of the posh pizzas, with goats cheese, olives and sundried tomatoes topped with rocket leaves. Someones hand must have slipped while sprinkling the pizza with rocket leaves as they were piled high and I couldn’t see the pizza underneath.
The pizza buffet is the best option as you can eat as much pizza as you like and the choice is varied and regularly refreshed, although the buffet is time limited and not available in the evenings.
To sum up, Pizza Hut is a great place to take the kids for a quick meal, but given the choice I’d opt for a takeaway pizza rather than spend an evening sat in here.
The Old Mill - Brighouse
Wakefield Road, Brighouse, West Yorkshire HD6 4HA
26-11-2011
We decided to try the Old Mill for Sunday lunch and we weren’t disappointed. There was a substantial choice on the menu, plus specials on the board.
I chose the venison pie, which was delicious with a perfect crust and a rich gravy.
The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them.
I would highly recommend the Old Mill and will most certainly be eating there again.
Beulah Inn - Leeds

This pub has, at the time of writing, undergone a change of ownership.
I visited with my son and ordered a meal. We discovered that children could eat free between certain hours so we order our meal and sat down and waited. And waited. And waited.
An hour later and the food still hadn’t arrived so we enquired as to where the food was, to be told it was just about to be prepared.
eventually it turned up, and the portions were massive, so we weren’t disappointed.
All in all the food was really good value for money, if they could speed up the time taken to prepare it, then they’d be on to a winner.
Pizzerria Heladeria Valentino - Las Galletas

I can’t comment on the quality of the food here as we weren’t able to order any as we arrived at 12.30 and food doesn’t start to be served until 13.00 so we ordered drinks and then once we’d finished them we moved on.
We had been reliably informed that this is the best pizzeria around here and, judging by the number or local residents who frequent the place, this must be true.
Kamran Balti House - Halifax

We received a menu for this Balti House through our door and after noting it had a five star hygiene rating from Scores On The Doors we decided to give it a try.
We weren’t disappointed, the food arrived hot and within the specified time. It was the best tasting curry we have ever had delivered to our door and the cheese naans were to die for.
We also liked the fact we can order and pay on credit card and the delivery driver was very friendly.
We’ll definitely be using them again and we will be visiting their restaurant for an evening out soon.
Old Colonial Club - Mirfield

Recently changed from a private members club to pub status, the Old Colonial is well known for its varied and good quality selection of real ales, and is a regular in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.
The pub is always full on a Sunday lunchtime as it provides good value home cooked meals at reasonable prices, but you have to be there as soon as the doors open as it proves very popular.
The pub hosts regular quiz nights and has a darts and dominoes team.
Fund raising events for the Royal British Legion are regularly held.

I’ve always used CCL whenever I’m in a hurry and need spares for my computer quickly. As I live close by, I use the call and collect service which is fast and I’ve never had any problems with this service. My only complaint is the 2.5% surcharge when paying for items on a credit card, (debit cards are free), as this is the payment method most people will use when collecting.
