Beatroot - Helsinki

Iso Roobertinkatu 10, Punavuori, 00120 Helsinki

16-12-2008

There’s a certain feeling to Beatroot that is hard to describe. The old, mismatched sofas give it character but they’re not the best sofas to sit all day. The drink selection is quite limited and the space a bit weird in its layout - but the mood is still there.

The music is an important part in Beatroot and maybe that’s why it’s pretty empty during early evenings.

Elite - Helsinki

Eteläinen Hesperiankatu 22, 00100 Helsinki

16-12-2008

Elite is one of those definitive places in your neighborhood that you can always trust. The food is awesome and the atmosphere something that cannot be built, it has to be earned. A place where you can go to have a luxurious dinner or just go in with friends to talk and drink good beverages. Highly recommended.

Marktplatz - Helsinki

hafen, Helsinki

16-12-2008

A classic, traditional Finnish meeting point during the summer. Lots of seasonal food and other items available for purchase. Lots of tourists, so that affects the variety of items sold though. The boat to Sveaborg (Suomenlinna) departs from here, so it’s a good place to start getting to know Helsinki better.

Aussie Bar - Helsinki

Salomonkatu 5, Kamppi, 00100 Helsinki

16-12-2008

The Aussie bar is one of the key locations where English speaking expats of Helsinki meet and party. The bar is run by Aussies and Kiwis, serving their own twist to the native beers and drinks from the area.

The bar hosts plenty of themed parties a few times a year, which are always brilliant and a lot of people make an effort to show up in short shorts or kinky pajamas.

Whether you’re looking for a place to meet new people, practice on your language skills or go party your brains out, this is the place I’d go to.
