The Boatshed - Sydney

The Corso 40, Manly, 2095 Sydney

29-03-2010

I love the Boatshed in Manly!

There are a few fancy bars in Manly & they attract fancy looking 'young ones' but for me, The Manly Boatshed is the bar to go to.

It's downstairs off the corso so you don't know what your getting into until your down there. Often its packed (but not overly packed) full of locals, either playing pool, dancing to the band of the night, chatting at the bar or sitting at tables.

Everyone is friendly, no one is pretentious & its open till late.

Love it!

Royal Botanic Gardens - Sydney

Macquarie Street, NSW 2000 Sydney

24-11-2009

I’ve been back in Sydney for 6 weeks now & love taking the time out to rediscover this city. There have been so many lovely days, so it’s not difficult to be motivated to pick up the camera & go for a walk. On this day I walked from Bellvue Hill to the city (approx. 3hrs) passing Woolloomooloo Wharf….

Then headed toward the Botanic Gardens, passing the Andrew (Boy) Charlton pool, situated in the Domain, overlooking the Navy base…..

then I sat with an ice-cream for a well earned rest. I loved this day – just taking it all in, appreciating the gorgeous landscape, sunshine & open spaces.

yep…. I certainly did have a lovely day rediscovering Sydney :)

Ambush Gallery - Sydney

James Street, Waterloo, Sydney

19-11-2009

So much art....so little time.

The opening was from 6pm-9pm but I couldn't get there until 7.30 & when we got there it was packed (which is a good thing for the artists)

First things first, grab a glass of wine then have a little wander around. All pieces were small and grouped however were sold separate so you could pick up a piece for next to nothing or...grab the collection.

They currently have an exhibition featuring a selection of Australia's best female emerging artists...Once Upon...well worth a look

Chinta Ria: The Temple of Love - Sydney

Roof Terrace (next to the Pyrmont Bridge), Cockle Bay Wharf, 2000 Sydney

19-11-2009

This place has not changed (& I like that) I've been away from Sydney for nearly 3 years & was chuffed to see some things have remained the same.

I met up with family on Monday who were up from Melbourne, so none of us really had any idea of where to go. They were staying around Darling Harbour so I suggested an old favourite...China Ria (The Temple of Love)

What a great choice! The food was fast & fresh, the bubbles were cold, the service is just how I remembered it - quick & easy & the decor was perhaps a little worn to my eye but as they had not been there before they just loved it - especially the giant buddha in the middle of the restaurant. Set right on Cockle bay, amongst the glass buildings of the city was perfect on Monday night as we were able to watch the Tropical storm hit, then move on.

I went straight to the seafood laksa because they were hard to find in London & it was supurb. Just the right amount of chilli, heaps of seafood & noodles & sooo tastly. We had the Chinta Ria bubbles which went well with dinner (no surprises there).

I'd still recommend this place for dinner, they don't take bookings so make sure you get there either early or late.

Bridge Lounge & Dining Room - London

186 Tooley Street, London Bridge, London SE1 2TZ

25-07-2009

Used this pub as a meeting place for friends before we all went out.

Great location, lovely views over Tower of London, great atmosphere & ok food.

It was a friday night & the place was packed but we went upstairs & were able to secure a couple of couches.

The staff were friendly & the drinks were cold…what more do we need :)

Carluccio's - Covent Garden

Garrick Street, Covent Garden, London WC2E 9BJ

22-07-2009

This is the second time I’ve been to Carluccio’s & both times have been full of great food, easy atmosphere & a nice drop of wine to go with it all.

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Planeta (Sicilian)wine tasting in the private room upstairs of their Garrick St restaurant in Covent Garden…everything from rose’, light whites, oaked whites, deep reds & a lovely crisp desert wine to finish off the evening. The antipasto platter that was served with these wines was sooo tasty & fresh but the cannoli - what can i say….YUM!

There were 20 of us at the tasting & by the looks of it we all learned a bit about Planeta wines and even their olive oil (thanks to Michael).

Thanks to Carluccio’s, Planeta & Qype for a lovely night out.

Electric Cinema - Notting Hill

191 Portobello Road, Notting Hill, London W11 2ED

Loved it! Wine, cheese n crackers whilst in a big comfy chair…the only way to see a film.

South Side Bar - Brixton

144 Brixton Hill, London SW2 1SD

13-07-2009

We held our friends Wedding Reception there - was a lovely small gathering so this bar was great. We pretty much took over the pub. Staff could not do enough for us, which just made everything so much easier. Great outdoor area, lovely cosy indoor area. Was the perfect venue for us.

Big Chill Bar - Whitechapel

Dray Walk Dray Walk, Off Brick Lane, London E1 6QL

12-07-2009

I had a lovely night with friends here but it was the friends that made the evening, not the bar. It’s a bit grotty, tables & seats were wet, music was really loud but..it’s big & close to Brick lane so was great as a meeting place before dinner. Not sure I’d race back there though

The Brixton Academy - Brixton

211 Brixton, Brixton, London SW9 9SL

07-07-2009

I was going to give it a 5 but just remembered it was hell trying to get a drink :(
Saw 2ManyDjs who absolutely rocked the house! Brilliant set (on the 1st night) Perfect venue - we got right down the front & had heaps of room to dance. Great Night Out!
