Dalyan - Dalaman
Dalaman
04-09-2009
Best holiday I’ve ever been on. So good I went back 3 weeks later! (Sod the debts bring on the holidays).
Dalyan has a lot to offer, I would recommend it for singles, couples and friends after a chilled out holiday. I would NOT recommend it for lively stag and hen dos, p* up hols or people after a banging night life.
Some of Dalyan’s highlights:
A beautiful river which leads one way to a lake and the other way to the sea. You can take boat trips to both. There is a cheap public boat running to the beach (i think) every hour. It takes about 40 minutes. There is a quicker bus but the boat is far more scenic.
Caunos tombs. You can view these tombs from many of the restaurants on the river bank. They are lit up at around 9pm - a really lovely sight.
Excursions to some really interesting places such as the Saklikent Gorge, 12 Island Tour and Moonlit mud bath visit.
A fantastic painter who has lived in Dalyan 18 yrs. He paints at various places in the town. When I was there he was along the river towards the lake, walk just past the restaurants and he should be there sat next to the path. He sells original canvas paintings of Dalyan and the surrounding area for £30 ish.
Amazing food - I have never eaten so well in all my life! I’d recommend trying the leg of lamb at the Patio Hotel. Also keep a look out for blue crab (local specialty), sea bass and other yummy fish and also clay pot kebab. Be prepared for the enormous portions they always seem to serve in this area.
The men working in the restaurants can be a bit annoying - hassling you every time you walk past. This is usually worse for lone or groups of women. Don’t get sucked in! No harm in being polite but make sure you check out everywhere before letting someone coax you in.

I have stayed at this hotel twice and i must say i LOVED it! It cost me £65 for 7 night B&B - as if you can moan at that?!! Air con is an extra £5 per night (pay in English money), well worth forking out for, it was like walking into the Antarctic whenever I went to get changed!
The food was lovely. Breakfast is typical for turkey - yummy bread, jam, marmalade, eggs, cheese, cucumber, watermelon, tea, coffee and juice. To be honest I only got up once for the breakfast, but I would recommend it to others! (not a morning person meself). It’s served between 8am and 10am.
If you go to Dalyan definitely try the Patio Hotel restaurant for a meal, it was the best place I ate. Highly recommended are: Sea bass, clay pot kebab (similar to a casserole but a little but of spice) and leg of lamb.
Staff are really friendly, sometimes over friendly as is the way in Turkey :-). The owners were fab and really helpful. Cleaning lady it fantastic. She’s deaf but take the time to talk to her - she is very good at signing so that anyone can understand. The 2nd time I went my room was cleaned every day!
I have read many bad reviews for this hotel but I’d recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful with an average size pool and clean bathrooms :-).

This farm shop sells THE BEST ice cream I have ever had in my life!!! I would happily live in the tea room and fill myself full of ice cream til I can no longer fit out of the door!
There are loads of flavors, my favourites so far are raspberry swirl, humbug and honeycomb - yum yum yum!
It’s really cheap considering it is home made ice cream. You can buy it by the cone or in various sized tubs. Obviously the bigger tub you buy, the cheaper it works out per litre ( by the biggest!! He he ). There is a lovely field outside with picnic benches, perfect to drive, cycle or walk to.
If coming from Stafford it is possible to get there on a cycle path, google it.
No 5 Gaolmews Restaurant - Stafford

25 of us headed to no.5 recently for a joint birthday party. We were seated in an upstairs room on a very long table (with 1 seat short!! Which they soon sorted out).
We opted for the set menu, which was really cheap at £20 per head. Most main courses were around £15. There was a range of starters, mains and puddings including vegetarian options, fish, beef chicken, duck, etc.
I ordered beer battered prawns with a lemon grass dip - these were really yummy and came with a fair bit of salad.
Main course I had roast duck with some kind of sauce (I can’t remember what), it was really sweet and YUMMY! The sauce really made the course, hehe.
Pudding was a bit dodgy. They had run out of most things on the set menu pudding list, so allowed us to order anything from the a la carte pudding menu. I had baileys and white malteser cheesecake. Which was OK, but I’m not a huge fan of cream and this was SERIOUSLy creamy!. Also the maltesers were milk choc rather than white, not that i’m milkchocolate-ist, but I really fancied the white ones.
Overall a fantastic meal, this opinion was shared by almost all of our party. Staff were very friendly and helpful, service was quick and organised and the restaurant was lovely!
McDonald's Restaurants - Stafford

Nice mcDonalds, friendly staff and the restaurant is clean. It hasn’t been open long so not to busy as yet, and the drive thru is open late at night.
I would recommend going here rather than the town centre Maccys.
The Pastaman - Market Drayton

Nice pasta, salad and sandwich shop. I have had a few of my lunches from here, especially in the form of sausage bacon and egg baps! And they have always been very nice. Gets really busy at lunch so it’s often better to phone in with an order and pick it up a bit later.
Prices are OK and the staff are friendly.
cafe margerite - Stafford
28 Marston Road, Stafford, Staffordshire ST16 3BS

Excellent little cafe. This is not a greasy spoon! The “fry up”s they serve are griddled and yummy. Excellent for a saturday morning when I can’t be bothered to cook. There are a few tables and chairs in the cafe to eat in, and they do a take away and delivery service (delivery must be over a certain amount of food).
Opening hours are just the morning, I think they shut at 1ish. Staff are really friendly, and don’t mind you being fussy about the way you have your sandwich made.
Highly recommended.
Francesco Salons - Stafford
45 Bodmin Avenue, Stafford, Staffordshire ST17 0EF

Excellent hair dressers. I have had my hair cut by the same francesco hair dresser for the past 6 years. I started off when I was a broke student goign to the hair academy, then when my hairdresser moved to weeping cross I followed her thanks to having got myself a job!
Prices are around £30 for a cut and finish, more for re-styles etc. It can get quite expensive, but its worth it for the quality of hair cut.
Highly recommended.
Kwik-Fit - Stafford

This is an excellent Kwik Fit. The men here have always been extremely helpful to me, and have never over-charged me for anything (often doing extra work at no extra cost).
I’m sure some people will have had a bad experience, as with any car garage, but to me they have been fantastic, and iI’d recommend them to anyone who’s in a hurry and wants a good quality of work done.
Note - they give 3 yrs guarantee on any exhaust they fit!
Peccadillos Gift Shops - Stafford
42 Guildhall Shopping Centre, Grabbury Street, Stafford, Staffordshire ST16 2BB

Excellent gift shop, with loads of interesting things to buy. Not much in here for men but loads of good gift ideas for girls and the younger generation! Excellent range of candles/incence/burners/holders etc along with some really original things I’ve not seen anywhere else.
Prices are reasonable, about what you’d expect for an average gift shop, and the staff have always been really friendly to me and my family/mates.
