Happy Hour School of Motoring - Edinburgh
239 Portobello High Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH15 2AN
29-04-2008
I learned to drive with happy hour and I found the service excellent. I managed to pass my test, with minimal private practice within five months. The prices are reasonable and there are student discounts. The instructor is very patient and I feel really assesses your driving. The instructor only used the secondary controls once then admitted that he had made the mistake not myself. One ends up in a good relationship once they find the right instructor and I would recommend that one should try here.
Arnold Clark - Edinburgh
Bankhead Drive, Edinburgh, Scotland EH11 4DJ
29-04-2008
This is a car dealership and rental operator. We have bought a car out of here and the service was excellent. They managed to get us exactley what we wanted for an unbelieveable price. I have also, while learning to drive used the hire service for the dual control cars. This is excellent, if like myself you have no suitable cars to have private practice in. The cars themselves are small cheap vauxhall corsas. These are very good, although a bit battered. The actual condition of the components can feel tired which you would expect from a car driven by learners. The prices for hire are fair aswell.
If you are learning to drive or wish to buy a car then dont overlook Arnold Clark as you will quite likely be very surprised.
Haymarket Station Bar - Edinburgh
1 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh, Scotland EH12 5EZ

I used to go here quite alot and I did enjoy it. The place, split level offers a whole host of places to sit. A lively but not rowdy bar, a quiet but not dead seating area and a private but not secluded upstairs. The good thing is the quick service and the friendly staff. They seem to have every type of drink and sometimes have good offers on. The place has sort of old world decor but this is not imposing and creates a very open spaced interesting environment.
Overall I really like this place and would recommend it.
The Clermiston Inn - Edinburgh
7 Rannoch Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH4 7EG
29-04-2008
The Clermison inn is a public house in Clermison Edinburgh. I feel that this establishment is more a local than a venue, although I do believe they offer function rooms.
The prices are cheap but it all goes downhill thereafter. The decoration is tired and dated. There was “bingo” on which I didnt belive still happens in 21st century. It is quite something being told that you must be SILENT whist in a bar. The patrons who I must say were rather friendly were of on average great age. There was one gentleman in the corner who was either asleep or dead.
Its probably a great local but a far cry from the George Street experience I enjoy.
Fabio's Restaurant - Edinburgh
23 Glasgow Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH12 8HW

Fabios is an Italian Restaurant based in Corstorphine. It offers real fine Italian cusine and, due to a recent makeover, an exceptionally tasteful environment. An added bonus is the car park at the rear. The staff are very friendly and sing happy birthday to the relevant person. The food is tasty and ample with the service swift. On balance the prices are pretty cheap for what one receives. While waiting on a table there is a nice seating area at the front, through the large full size windows allows one to watch the busy M8 traffic come in.
The Chinese Manor House - Edinburgh
2 Glasgow Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH12 8HL
29-04-2008
The manor house is a chinese restaurant in Corstorphine. It offers exceptionally good food. Personally I would recommend the roast duck as this is done so well. The staff are friendly and there is a good atmosphere. In the evening I would recommend parking in the bank car park which is just over the road.
The downside is that sometimes, larger functions and parties can create alot of screaming kids which is rather annoying.
I would definatly say that this place is worth a visit.
hui - Edinburgh
corstorphine road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH12 5PZ

Even though it is not that local to me Hui is my local chinese. I do not care that it takes me a while to get there the quality of the food is second to none. The place is small and it is a great shame if one should miss it. For the lazier people out there the deliveries are pretty fast however take a bit longer than normal on Friday/Saturday evenings.
They offer set meals which if one requests they can sometimes change one dish if it is not to your liking. The prices are good for all their items.
I would recommend barbeque spare ribs as these are the best I have tasted.
Go try it, its the best in the city.
Davidsons Mains Sub Post Office - Edinburgh
49 Corbiehill Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH4 5AT
29-04-2008
This post office offers all the services by comparison to most of the others in the area that never seem to have any forms of any use. There is never a big queue and there is parking. The place is really old world and has a funny smell. Overall though good quick service.
Peoples Edinburgh - Edinburgh
Cutlins Road Hermiston Quay, Edinburgh, Scotland EH11 4DF

I have not found the service of this dealer to be exceptional. I did not know of its bad reputation after my 1 year old car sprang a power steering fluid leak. I was taken here by the AA but after being taken home I learned of its poor reputation and decided to retrieve my car. This was on a Saturday afternoon. On arrival to collect the car armed with steering fluid I was shocked to see that the car, parked right outside the entrance was untouched and the fluid was leaking out of it. On enquiry with the staff I found that they had locked the key in a secure deposit box which cannot be opened until Monday. If this does not say it all, who leaves a vehicle with fluid leaking out of it in front of a showroom. If someone had went out for a cigarette then disaster. They did not know what the fluid was. They shut the keys away.
Overall I was not satisfied with this and went to another dealer.
Grosvenor - Edinburgh
26-28 Shandwick Place, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 4RT
29-04-2008
During the day this is an excellent place to stop of for a bite to eat or a drink. It is not busy during the day, the doors are open and there is a really nice quiet atmosphere where one can sit and read the paper. The location is excellent as Shandwick Place is a major bus stop area thus there is a lot of passing trade as opposed to regulars.
At night however I must complain that this place is loud and rowdy. It is much more down to earth that the more contemporary establishments nearby thus the patrons seem to be a bit more rough and rowdy. The service suffers and the grand atmosphere dissapears. The prices are cheap however.
I would recommend this place to anyone during the day however at night it is only for the more boystrous.
