Blue Bay Hotel - Rhodes

Rodos

12-05-2012

A very pleasant hotel, 100 metres from the beach. A fantastic pool, and polite staff.

It is marble and stone throughout so quite noisy in the rooms – I could even hear something being dropped next door, and hear their loo flush. The bed was a bit lumpy and there is no air con until July and August so we melted at bed time or when having a much needed nap.

There is a waterpark across the road.

The food was a mix of nationalities. The Thai dishes were great. I don’t know if I ate anything Greek as any Greek foods were not identified as such. Certainly there was no lamb the whole time. Their ice cream is fantastic though.

Lunch is eaten at the ‘Taberna’ about 75  yards away beyond the pool. Kebabs were the best. And very good chips. Fizzy drinks can be obtained here as well as beer. I didn’t see any spirits or cocktails the entire time, although they are listed as available.

Every thing is self service. Not a waiter in sight. Buffet style meals, get your own drinks. The hotel houses far more guests than the dining rooms so lining up is a bit of a choatic thing, and at dinner it really is best to wait a while. The dining rooms are very noisy.

I enjoyed the holiday apart from the lack of air conditioning. Sometimes I could not find enough variety to eat – I like trying new things but I prefer to know what it is I’m trying. It was tiring at times to get to the outside taverna – in fact everything is very spread out, so this hotel is not ideal for any one with any mobility problem.

Aphrodite - Bournemouth

I’ve been wanting to have a facial here for some time. A 25% discount made it impossible to put it off any longer.

This was an Experience, not just a facial. I lay in purple towels in a darkened room, with soothing new age music. My therapist began by cleansing my skin with a warm cleanser. Right from my lower neck upward. That alone was bliss!
That was removed with warm mitts.-.ooh! Several different applications went on,some cool, some warm and one TINGLY…..oh my…

My arms were massaged which was heavenly.

At one stage a dried on mask was lifted off, which felt peculiar but very good.

I felt so relaxed, so pampered and so good about myself that I can’t wait to go again. I bought a cleanser by Elemis.

One gets points on each visit, which can be used or saved to pay toward future treatments.

Very friendly, respectful and helpful. Must go!

davidnicolas Is there anywhere you’ve been that you don’t like Softy?? Love to be what you’re on :)x

bluesofty Yes, there are lots of places. Read all of my reviews but quit leaving your nasty remarks or I’ll report you.

Corkers - Poole

High Street, Poole BH15 1AN

16-12-2011

A delightful seafood restaurant right on the quay at Poole. I’m giving it five stars because the staff are so welcoming and the service is excellent.

The restaurant is upstairs, which gives a great view over Poole Harbour. (I’m not sure if there is a lift, but I saw a sign saying disabled access.) The decor is tasteful and does not overwhelm, and the lighting is pleasant, neither dim nor bright.

The’re a wide range of starters and entree’s. Most are seafood based, although they do a lovely pea and ham soup. I had fish pie and was not at all disappointed. It had cod, coley, haddock, salmon and prawns, topped with perfect mashed potato and a touch of cheese. It’s probably the best fish pie I’ve had.

Dessert is waiting on the trolley. Oh, what to choose! I had the hazelnut pavlova with raspberries. Delicious, yummy, these words don’t do it justice at all.

The house red is very good and not pricey. There is a well stocked bar and I wish I’d had a liqueur to finish.

All in all, a most pleasant evening. There is some parking on the lower High St, otherwise it’s the multi storey.

upaheinz Guter Service und gutes Essen – immer eine Empfehlung wert !

Specsavers Opticians - Poole

32 Kingland Crescent, Poole BH15 1TB

28-09-2011

Really glad I chose this optician. Every one is very helpful and polite. The layout is sensible and pleasant, and there is a vast choice of frames to choose from.

I was long overdue to have my eyes tested. I have ended up with two pairs, one for distance (especially driving) and one for reading. No wonder I was bewildered!

I have been very happy with the frames for reading, but decided my distance ones were bland and boring and therefore ageing me. So I looked through my daughter’s nail varnishes and put a colour along the top part of the frame. I have had so many compliments since.

A couple of receptionists appear to be school leavers in suits. They do lack a little something. But every one else is great.

Bateau Bristo - Poole

Commercial Road, Ashley Cross, Poole BH12 1

26-09-2011

I’d like to give this five stars as it looks so great in the Bistro and seems very popular.
We were looking for a dessert to finish a birthday celebration for two ten year olds. We stopped here as we could think of nowhere else that is open.
We walked into the bar, the girls went straiht to the Ladies and I ordered two ice cream dishes and a coke for me. I asked for it to be brought outside.

When it arrived the girls had joined me, but we were told that children are not allowed there after 7 pm. I found this very odd, asI thought children were allowed outside or in the restaurant of licensed premises until nine.

However the waitress was gracious and we stayed with much sympathy from other patrons.

Try it!

Amazon - Poole

the ether, ///////internet, Poole BH12 1

26-09-2011

I get most of my books from Amazon now,as they stock books not found in Waterstones.

If your not sure of the of the author, you can google the title. Delivery is uick and easy. I recently found a second hand out of print biography as a thank you gift for my cousin.

They have regular offers and sales. The American site is great for study books
and I also use Amazon.de.

Make use of it, even if eventually you buy from a bookstore (they need supporting!).

Very Important Qyper medal for rogerbrookes

rogerbrookes We use them quite a bit and find them very cheap – books and postage here to Spain.

Cafe Giardino - Southampton

Unit R4 West Qy Shopping Centre, Southampton, Hampshire SO15 1QF

26-09-2011

This would be very pleasant indeed if it were not self service or having the food counter facing away from the direction from which one generally approaches .

They serve great salads (but I did not see the salad bar until I had struggled to make another choice). I will confess here that I had two thirteen year olds to help in their choices. I chose a panini with avocado and cheese, ham and tomato. While you wait for your order to be made other people are overtaking you and generally to get to the obscured milling around salad bar and to pay. As I had not been given a numbered ticket I made sure that I as paying for the correct meals.

I admit to strongly disliking the Food Terrace at West Quay. The accoustics are dreadful and there are always too many people and abandoned meals.
However my panini was tasty and generous.

Four stars for this branch as the layout could be better.

Here it is - Poole

High St, Poole

24-09-2011

This is a bit like Woolworth’s used to be, but much cheaper.

There are sections, like garden, kitchen, games, crafts, bathroom etc but none of them are complete. It’s almost like being teased. If you find what you need, great, but you are more likely to search and search and not find.

For instance, if you go to kitchen you won’t find a garlic crusher or rolling pin. You will find a small selection of pans and tupperware, measuring jug/spoons, a small selection of tableware and perhaps a casserole or three. Oh and oven gloves.

If you go to garden you’ll find some solar lights, hanging baskets, seeds, some hand tools and gloves and plastic ornaments.

So, you can strike lucky and get a bargain. Or you will come away disappointed. Just don’t go when it’s a real need.

Worth looking.

Banana Wharf - Poole

Dolphin Quays, Poole BH15 1HH

23-09-2011

I have not given a fifth star because of the high prices.

A delightful wine bar/restaurant on the first floor at Dolphin Wharf. The cuisine here is multinational, with an Indian dish or two, Chinese and Italian plus a couple of French dishes. There is a pleasant selection of desserts and crepes.

The three house red wines are priced extortionatly at $5.95 for the least expensive. (I don’t have a pound symbol on this PC). Entrees begin at 7.95.
So no one is going to get a budget meal or drink here. The food, however, is excellently cooked and presented, and quite delicious.

The space is beautifully decorated with a theme of local black and white photos with blue and yellow paint for added effect. These are enormous and suspended from the ceiling as well as on big walls. The windows overlook part of the Marina and there are views of Brownsea Island.

Try it, it’s worth it. But it may not become a regular haunt unless you’re fairly loaded.

Bank123 you can fix this by visiting the “Oktoberfest” in München.
It is still running for the next 10 days.

Antigalarian Hotel - East Greenwich

14 Woolwich Road, Charlton, London SE10 0SA

04-12-2010 (updated on 14-01-2011)

This is a sort of hostel over a pub. It is walking distance from theO2 arena, so handy for concerts, and a bit further away is City Airport.

We had a room for three which had a tiny ensuite shower room. It was rather cold. There was no wi fi reception in our room, so had to use the common room upstairs.

We got a chinese takeaway, and in the morning breakfast is served in the bar.

There were loads of tea bags and accessories which we used up in order to keep warm. We asked for more and were given a huge amount!

The staff are Polish, very polite and friendly. After getting used to the cold, it was quite ok.
