Aurora Computers - Wetherby

22 Market Place, Wetherby, West Yorkshire LS22 6NE

24-01-2013

Amazing - this store gets poor reviews, so they create a new store ID.  Even more amusing so many of the user ID's only have one review, I rather suspect these are written by the owner.

The original site Aurora Computers page with average one star reviews.... click here

Think twice before using, ask you PC literate friends for their advice first.

auroracomputers Hello, Firstly can I apologise for any inconvenience you may have received when using Aurora Computers, we try to make sure situations such as this are properly managed.

The Victoria - York

When a Pub/Restaurant can fill it's car park most of the week and all weekend it doesn't really need another positive review, but they deserve it, and if you want a good experience then you do too.

What I like about the Victorea, which should really be called a posh pub restaurant, is it's broad appeal where a main corse can cost as little as £12 per head or £36. Oh and you can find ample at the lower price of the menu without feeling restricted.  No matter what you order it's all prepared and presented in man size portions, and is all together very good value for money.

My favorites are the Fish and Chips, the fish is huge, and the local meats be it Nidderdale lamb or cut of steak.

The service and rapport of the staff is second to non, even at peak times.  While they may be booked up, if they can squeeze you in without cramping the experience of other customers, they will.

New or regulars at the Victorea and you will be made to feel very welcome and you're remembered on repeat visits.

* Vegetarian?  I should add they have a very impressive menu, not the usual cheese on toast response, but a full vegetarian menu, but you must ask for it.

Mr Yiks - Wetherby

I have never understood why Chinese takeaway costs less than an Indian take out?  Mr Yiks has amazing value, a set meal for 4 costs about £33 at the time of writing.  The set menu at my local Thai costs £93 for a set menu for 4.

To testify to the total value of Mr Yiks, I take a 28 mile round trip instead of an 8 mile roundtrip to Boroughbridge, and not on price which as aforementioned is great, but quality and taste of the prepared food.

Normally I would not criticise a takeaway for having food ready without a wait, however when I request the food to be ready no earlier than 20 minutes after I order, so it stands a chance of being hot on my return 14 mile trip, that's what I expect.  Occasionally My Yiks let's me down, and the order is sat out waiting for an untold time. Only for this reason have I awarded Mr Yiks 4 stars, otherwise it would have attained all 5.

Apple Store UK - Sheffield

Meadowhall Centre, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S9 1EP

01-10-2012

I agree with some previous posters that the Apple staff are not all that Apple!  They are not rotten to the core, actually very friendly and even provide non Apple advise.  Unlike the London stores, some advisors appear to be trained from little knowledge, rather than being exceptional knowledge experts.

When compared to a store like PC world or Comet, the staff are considerably better, you never over hear an Apple employee speaking gibberish to a would be customer just to bag a sale. Rather Apple store employees are advisors not sales staff.  The only intimidating aspect to an Apple store are the number of customers, especially on a weekend.

Will I keep buying Apple?  Not all product lines, but some are better than the alternatives in terms of quality and reliability, which should be expected at the premium price.

The Sheffield store is cramped compared the Apple stores in London, and my advise is to browse in store and buy online, that way under distance selling rules Apple allow you to try at home and then return an opened product if it does not suit.

"Aurora, who prey on the computer illiterate"

I have often wondered about the business model of Aurora, how can they charge enough to stay in business yet not be too expensive when compared to self help, and replacing an old computer?  I discovered my answers when a friend asked me to help his father recover his PC.

My friend lives in Australia, too far away to be hands on.  I visited his father and on looking at he PC I was surprised to find the PC was 10 years old, I asked him why not replace it and he said it keeps working and I use Aurora to service it regularly... I asked him what they do, he said they charge between £80-£250 a time and it always comes back a bit faster, he felt it was expensive but knowing he paid near £2000 for the computer in 1999 thought it was better to repair than replace.

Back on the phone to my friend I explained it was in his Dad's interests to replace his PC, and he agreed telling me he keeps paying a fortune  to Aurora and all they do is clear the cache on the PC and run the operating system updates.  One time they replaced his hardrive and charged, added RAM .   Over the past 5 years he has spent over £800 on maintaining a PC that could be replaced with a £300 laptop that would be phenomenally faster without the challenges and assistance required for his current PC.  We did replace his PC, and he is now saving £100 a year to replace this laptop in 3/4 years time.

My message, if you know anyone, even a friends friend that knows about computers, always ask their advice before making the plunge to pay a company like Aurora, who pray on the computer illiterate.

auroracomputers Hello hope you’re well. Having read your review are you sure that you are dealing with us at 22 Market Place, Wetherby?

If so the situation does not ring a bell, I would be more than happy to discuss but I feel you may be talking about a different Aurora?

Please call Darren on 01937 586888 if you would like to discuss further.

bryan_of_york Couldn’t be more sure. I have heard even more disturbing things about the store and how Darren conducts his business. Shame we have to deal with people like you guys in society.
