    Yo! Sushi

1pxt carlynd last updated on 10-12-2008:

The Farringdon location was where I had my first Yo!Sushi experience.
I share the feelings of mattygroves, Yo!Sushi is not the place I would go to if I was feeling extremely hungry. It’s more of a 'snack’ restaurant.
Watching the coloured bowls of beautifully presented mini-meals travel along the conveyor belt was a novelty at first. As I was at Yo!Sushi on a date it gave us something to talk about.
The price is what puts me off from visiting Yo!Sushi regularly. I understand that skill is required for making sushi but please explain how a small bowl of miso soup can cost £1.75?
For desert we had 4 small pieces of, what I thought was marzipan but is apparently something called mochi. This was £2.70. A small portion of sliced fruit costs the same.
To spend this much money on food I would not expect to leave a restaurant still feeling hungry.

    Cashmere of Geneva

1pxt carlynd last updated on 24-11-2008:

Cashmere of Geneva is a relatively new boutique in downtown Geneva, Illlinois. It opened in 2006 and is my favourite fashion boutique in the whole world. Yes, the whole world. Here you will find an outstanding selection of affordable and cutting-edge luxurious fashion brands. They are always on trend with the latest fashion lines and select the best pieces from each. These include beautiful party dresses from Black Halo, casual-chic from Primp, funky jewellery from Tarina Tarantino and trendy handbags from L.A.M.B. You can even find some items made of luxurious cashmere!
The customer service at Cashmere of Geneva is exceptional; the owner is always helpful with whatever questions you have about any pieces (especially helpful if you are buying from their webstore).
To summarise, Cashmere of Geneva is an independent boutique where you will find original pieces but are on trend. The owner has a strong passion for fashion and their customers which clearly shows.

  • Playlounge - Soho

    Playlounge

1pxt carlynd last updated on 20-11-2008:

Possibly my favourite shop in London. It turns me back into being a child and I always beg to go here when in the area with others. Although I am not a collector of vinyl toys, I do enjoy looking at the newest editions in here (well it was a Gloomy Bear vinyl which made me first notice this place). Many of the toys are displayed in a huge honeycomb on the wall. They also stock merchandise from Moomin/The Moomins; my favourite cartoon (still).
They have a very good book selection with original and lovely designed books. These are perfect for little kids (I bought one as a gift called ‘My First Words’ or something very similar, everyone loved it).
If only Playlounge was bigger (often you’ll find tourists just standing around), if only it had longer opening hours and if only they sold more Moomin items.

  • Artbox - Covent Garden

Unit 22 Thomas Neal Cntr 35 Earlham Street, London WC2H 9LD

    Artbox

1pxt carlynd last updated on 20-11-2008:

Artbox is a shop full of kawaii/cute products from brands such as San-X, Tokidoki, Super Lovers, Cram Cream and Hello Kitty. Entering always makes me want to buy so many things that I never realised I needed like cute eye-masks, ear muffs and banana cases. They are just all so cutely decorated and packaged. Their website gives you a good idea of what items they sell but they have many more things that aren’t listed such as cute Cram Cream napkins and Hello Kitty nail files. It’s not all just Hello Kitties, pandas and mushrooms. They also have a few products under their own brand which surprisingly is some of the best products you’ll find here.
There are lots of nice gift ideas here too. It is a little pricey but the products here are very eye-catching and original.

    The Brixton Academy

1pxt carlynd last updated on 19-11-2008:

The area around Brixton Academy is not very nice. I’ve had a few bad experiences prior to concerts. I have noticed more policing around the outside of the venue more recently though. If you arrive too early you can always have a meal at the Nandos opposite (sometimes I have even seen the bands playing in here!).
The venue has great transport links. A bus stop which has night buses is right opposite the venue. You can get a bus from here to Clapham Junction. Brixton Academy Underground is a short walk from the venue which connects to the Victoria Line.
