Isis - Preston

49 Lune Street, Preston, Lancashire PR1 2NN

15-11-2008

Isis is a small jewellery shop in Preston, just off the main Fishergate Street. It is great for really different, unique pieces of high quality jewellery. But it can be a bit on the expensive side. They always have nice shops displays and a good variety of products. The staff are really friendly and helpful and serve with a smile. A must if you like your jewellery to stand out from the norm. It is a perfect for buying presents and gifts too as the boxes are really pretty and they offer a gift wrapping service too.

Action Records - Preston

46-47 Church Street, Preston, Lancashire PR1 3DH

15-11-2008

Vinyl Records is a great old skool record/vinyl shop on Church Street in Preston. Not many of these types of shops left about. They have lots of different styles of music and a mass amount of records. The prices can be a bit more costly than the norm but they are worth it. Much better experience than shopping online. If you can’t find what you want the staff are always on hand to help you and if they don’t have it in stock they will order it in for you. Great quick service and knowledgeable staff. Nice friendly atmosphere.

Trough of Bowland - Preston

Preston, Lancashire

15-11-2008 (updated on 16-11-2008)

A great place to go for some peace and quiet and fresh air. The trough of bowland or the forest of bowland in Lancashire as its also called, makes a great day out for hikers, dog walkers, families and couples. It is a great untouched peace of the country side with beautiful views. There are a few places where you can stop to park up the car and the roads are great for a country drive. They have many benches and tables scattered about so it is nice to take a picnic and spend the afternoon there. Please remember to take your litter home though if you do.

Dave Smith The "Trough of Bowland" is a route by road using the terrain of an ancient track to Lancaster via Dunsop Bridge from the River Hodder Valley.

Following the Reformation of Henry V111, the Whalley Abbot, John Paslew ( Pilgrimage of Grace ) was dragged along this track and hanged in Lancaster.

Later during the Witch Trials of James 1, it was notorious again of being the route along which the innocent women were sent to trial and death by hanging in Lancaster.

The "Forest of Bowland" is now an Area of Outstanding National Beauty which is contained within a QUANGO boundary of a planning area of current County Council roads. Lots of clerks administer the detail of mainly farmland and they are paid by taxation.

Grey Friar - Preston

Unit A 144 Friargate, Preston, Lancashire PR1 2EE

Grey friars is a very traditional weatherspoons pub. It serves good tasty pub food too. It has many offers on for food and drink like pint and curry night on a Wednesday. Especially good for the wide range of drinks or the availability of the rarer ales and ciders. It is quite big and spacious but on a Saturday night it can get quite packed. The staff are very friendly and always serve with a smile. Nice affordable prices and a great atmosphere. I really recommend this pub its just a shame that it doesn’t have its own car park and when its busy you can have a long queue at the bar.

Guys Thatched Hamlet - Preston

St. Michaels Road, Preston, Lancashire PR3 0RS

15-11-2008 (updated on 16-11-2008)

This is a great pub which gets its name from having thatched roofs. It is situated right next to the side of the canal, So in the warmer months its lovely to sit outside feeding the ducks and watching the boats go by. Whenever I have been its always had a warm friendly atmosphere. Children are allowed in, it has a pool table and serves good food to especially its pizzas. There is also a lodge with hotels rooms attached to it so perfect for a romantic weekend away. The staff are always very friendly and the service is brilliant. Never had any complaint and I would definitely recommend a visit.

Rimmers Music School - Leyland

20 Chapel Brow, Ambrose House, Leyland, Lancashire PR25 3NE

16-11-2008

This music shop has a large amount of different musical instruments from guitars to keyboards. The shop has two floors with the first floor being newly refurbished and now is used specifically just for guitars. Unfortunatly they don’t have acess to the upper floor for prams and wheelchairs and they don’t have their own car park. You have to use the carpark round the pack which is pay and display. They do seem to have low prices but the after service isn’t very good and the staff don’t seem to be very helpful if you have any problems as I found out when I bought a keyboard which stopped working.

Greenhalgh's - Preston

17 Orchard Street, Preston, Lancashire PR1 2EN

16-11-2008

This a great bakery in Preston with lots of fresh food prepared instore. They serve hot pies , pasties and soup. And also sell fresh cream cakes, biscuits and cakes. The meat pies are to die for one, definitely one of the best around. All their product are reasonably priced and all the foods are very tasty. There are quite a few staff working behind the counter so you don’t normally have to wait long to be served. The staff are also very happy and friendly often giving away free pieces of cake with you order. It is a fantastic place to pop in to for your dinner on your lunch hour. Highly recommend.

Faith Footwear - Preston

The Mall St. George, Preston, Lancashire PR1 2NR

15-11-2008

Faith footwear is a great shoe shop for women in Preston. They sell all sorts of footwear in the latest fashion designs from trainers, high heels, to boots. They also sell umbrellas, handbags and shoes accessories such as shoe horns and polish. The staff are always friendly and say hello when you walk through the door. They are always happy to help too and don’t mind if you ask them to try on lots of different shoes and size. Another good thing about faith is that they do go up to a size 9 and have a wide leg range in their boots. They aren’t the cheapest shoe shop around but the shoes they do sell are top quality and in my honest opinion worth the extra money. If you are on a budget its worthwhile looking out for the sales at Christmas, summer and spring time as many great bargains can be had.

Accessorize - Preston

129 Fishergate, Preston, Lancashire PR1 2AH

15-11-2008

I have only given this store 2 stars as I find it to be very expensive and it is only very small so there isn’t much to choose from. They sell things like jewellry, hair clips, bags and socks but normally the prices are very high and you can get them much cheaper in other stores. As its quite small it can be difficult to move around the shop at busy times - I have often bumped into people or knocked things off the stands. They only have 2 members of staff in so it can be quite a slow service but they are usually friendly and helpful. Good for finding some unsual gifts though.

Home Bargains - Preston

29 Market Place, Preston, Lancashire PR1 2AR

15-11-2008

I love shopping in this store and I go in everytime Im in the city centre. As its name suggests you can get some great bargains for the home. They often have some great branded products at very low prices or get discounted product to sell off cheap too. They have lots of new stock coming in each week so there are always new bargains to be found. It is quite large too and they have trolleys but you must remember to take a pound coin. It really good if your shopping on a budget and the prices on toilet rolls, washing powders, toiletries usually are cheaper than the supermarkets. They sell toys and gift sets too so good for stocking up on Christmas presents and stocking fillers.
