Alina Indian Curry House - Galashiels

51 High Street, Galashiels, Scotland TD1 1RZ

25-09-2012

Tonight was my first time visiting Alina, and on this occasion I sampled the Chicken Pakora, and the Vegetable Pakora. I was glad to see that there was hardly any oil to be found, and they were full of flavour. The chicken was perfectly cooked and succulent, and the mint yogurt sauce tasted very fresh, and had lots of lovely bits of fresh mint leaves. The chef was friendly, and is clearly highly competent and proud and excited about his food. I was glad I walked in, and I shall be doing so again.

If you like Mexican food, you won’t like this place. In fact, if you like food, you won’t like this place. The first time I came in I ordered the quesedillas, which were pathetically small. We had to order a starter afterwards as we were still hungry. (And I’m not fat, I swear) When it arrived it was three times the size of the quesedillas. The second time, (thought I’d give it a second chance) I ordered a steak, medium rare, and it came back well done. There’s no excuse for that!

Glue Pot - Galashiels

The gluepot really is something special. If you must find out why, I’d highly recommend you arrive in a stab-proof vest. It’s actually quite an experience.

The only pub in gala with NO CHAVS. It’s a nice, relaxing place, with very cool, modern decor. They have a great range of drinks, and (also unlike anywhere else in gala) they don’t look at you funny if you ask for something other than a pint, or a whiskey and coke. They stock the best whiskeys, vodka, and tequila, they have a great cocktail menu and a varied food menu that is far more than pub grub. I’m partial to the calzones and the lobster and salmon ravioli. I’m in there quite a lot, and I really am quite fond of the place. Toilets leave something to be desired, however.
