Fiesta Havana - Chester

39 Watergate Street, Chester, Cheshire CH1 2LB

28-11-2008

The 'Havana’ is in an old chester basement with arched ceilings and solid floors a great little bar and nightspot with a dancefloor and they often have live music. I have Mostly been there after a days shopping in Chester when it gets to 5pm head down there and enjoy 'Happy Hour’ where all cocktails are half price. Foodwise I fully recommend the Party Platters which are well enough for 2 people. Nice way to end off a tiring day shopping.

Flossy's Sandwiches - Prescot

Eccleston Street, Prescot, Merseyside L34 5QE

28-11-2008

Flossy’s is a great sandwich shop that also sells various hot food, there is a wide selection of sandwiches fillings and all sandwiches are custom made to order. Staff are friendly and cheerfull, they sell a really nice homemade soup and varying things such as Chill con carne, Scouse, Curry, Pasta, Jacket Potato etc. even Chips and full english breakfasts are available. All very resonably priced. I fully recommend the Ham Salad on a brown “Bin Lid” barm. much better than a factory made sandwich from nearby tesco.

Maynard Arms - Hope Valley

Main Road, Nether Padley Grindleford, Hope Valley, Derbyshire S32 2HE

28-11-2008

This year we ventured over to Derbyshire to the Chatsworth House fireworks show and needed some accomodation quickly, through 'Laterooms’ we found a hotel we had driven past many times 'The Maynard’ we got a good deal through our late booking and we were well pleased with that room and the friendliness of the staff. After the fireworks we got back and went downstairs for a drink. The barmaid told us to go upstairs to the function room where they had a fantastic Glam Rock tribute band. We where welcomed into the company of everybody up there and ended up having a great night. The next day we opted for the the complementary continental breakfast which was really really nice, croissants, smoked hams, cereals, breads yogurts, fuit etc. This set us up for a nice explore before dinner.

Fairy Glen - Wigan

Wigan, Greater Manchester WN8

20-11-2008

There are many “Fairy Glens” in the country and this is a beautiful example. Basically it just a small woods surrounding a stream but there is a lovely wood walk there and in the spring the bluebells are stunning, If you listen very hard you may even hear the Fairies playing in the woods.

Just down the road from Parbold Hill and the “Wiggin Tree” easy to get to and a nice walk for the dog.

Parbold Hill - Wigan

Wigan, Greater Manchester WN8 7TG

20-11-2008

Parbold Hill is a layby on the side of the A5209 opposite the pub the Wiggin Tree. From here there are spectacular views of the surrounding countryside to be seen, there is also an ice cream van that has the novel idea of putting sherbet onto your ice cream Mmmm Mmmm. Anyway there are numerous walks in all directions that take you away from the traffic and into a lovely bit of countryside a walk through the woods down the hill will, after crossing over the railway line take you onto the canal for some nice canal walking or you can carry on along nice footpaths in numerous directions.

Efes Fast Food - Waterloo

93 South Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L22 0LR

20-11-2008

Efe’s is your standard chippy but they also do Pizza and Kebabs, they have tables and chairs if you want to sit down and eat there and then which is always handy (also good for helping with the local litter problems) Doesn’t stay open as late as some of the other places down South Road.

Arong Dial A Curry Takeaway - Waterloo

22a South Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L22 5PQ

20-11-2008

The Arong is a great place to get a nice takeaway curry and unlike a lot of places they are not afarid to let you see them cooking, too many places cook your food hidden away in some grubby kitchen but not here it seems. I have been working through the Specials on the menu and can confirm it is “good tucker”

Momtaj Tandoori - Liverpool

148 College Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L23 3DP

20-11-2008

The Momtaj is a great curry takeaway and they are not afraid to cook in full view of the customer, which speaks volumes in my opinion. (Just what does go on in closed kitchens?) I fully recommend the Chicked Tikka Biriani dish if your hungry as it’s loveley!!! They will deliver to your door as well

Raj Indian Take Away - Waterloo

70b Oxford Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L22 7RF

20-11-2008

The Raj used to be a fantastic takeaway curry but i’ve not been there since they have changed hands, I’ve heard it’s not as good but have not gone there and found out myself.
They do a very nice selection of Indian Takeaways and they also do delivery which is very handy. Nice choice if you fancy a change from your regular curry place.

Fortune Kitchen - Crosby

26 Bridge Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L23 6SG

20-11-2008

The Fortune Kitchen is your standard Chinese run Chip Shop. They do the usual Pie chips and gravy etc. and they also do a fine selection of Chinese Meals, I have had some very nice Chinese food from here but the chip shop side of things is very hit and miss.
