Juttutupa - Helsinki

Restaurant Juttutupa is a great place to have a beer after work, meet friends and enjoy good music. They have a great programme of live music from jazz to rock, even pop.
Situated in one of the finest buildings of the national romanticism style designed by Karl Lindahl in 1908.
They serve mainly traditional Finnish food: pyttipannu, meatballs, liver, salmon, etc. But you can have as well pasta or pizza.
I strongly recommend their dessert called Suklaapommi (chocolate bomb) : Brownie, Dark chocolate Marquis, White chocolate Mousse and raspberry salad. CHOCODELICIOUS!!

Perfect place for perfect local food.
Enjoy the apperitive on the terrace while enjoying the view over the Alps.
Love the place, and I love how the food is presented.
I strongly recommend to try the butter made by the cousin Simon, and the cheese offered.
Very cosy place and food made out of the heart of the Alps: simple and tasty.
Best ever cherry icecream.
In this place you really feel you are close to the heaven.

Great vegetarian food. Self-service vegetarian buffet.
Lots of variety both salad and warm food.
You pay according to the weight.
Nice and relaxing atmostphere.
They sell some organic products.
If you like vegetarian food, it is a must in Helsinki.

Pricy restaurant in a very nice settlement, often crowded by big groups of both Finns or tourists.
One of those restaurants where food is well-prepared, well-presented, good wine list, but the service side is completely forgotten; slow, unorganized…
I felt completely forgotten, I needed to almost shout to get the attention of a waitress, since all the waiters in the room seem to avoid checking and make eye-contact with customers.
First several delicious starters(listed below in my personal preference order, being the first three must-try):
-Beer marinated beef with garlic mayonnaise (Pure perfection!)
-Finnish goat´s milk Gruyere with currant wine gelé ( the most innovative, great combination and very balance taste)
-Vichyssoise with asparagus (very well done, but…)
-Cured lamb tartar with malt bread
-Peppered and lightly salted salmon with pickled cucumber
-Herring caviar seasoned with sherry, new potatoes
Main dish:
-Grilled whitefish with lemon risotto and crayfish sauce (Although the whitefish and the crafish sauce were finely done and they worked wonderfully together, the lemon risotto spoiled the dish.Risotto was undercooked and hard)
Dessert:
- Lemon Cremè Brûlée (really unbalanced on the taste… it seems the dishes with ölemon do not work well in this restaurant)
However I tried a little bit of my friend’s choice:
-Vanilla soup with poached rhubarb and organic strawberry sorbet (This one was a delicious combination)
Time between starters and main dishes waiting over 30 minutes!!!
One importan point in restaurant business is to end the serving of a table. Once you have started the table, you should be very concentrated on the demands of the table till the full meal ends.
You cannot have more than 5 minutes between one dish and next one, apart from desserts, since they are ordered afterwards. However, many of the desserts are already made and just need to be plated it up, so it should not take that long either.
If problems in the kitchen, customer should be informed to decide if they want to keep on waiting or not…lack of communication is the worse feauture of any customer oriented business.
Summing up:
Pricy: dinner for two + bottle of wine over 120 euros.
Food deserves 4 stars, but service was a complete failure, so only two stars.

Awsome view over the bay of Töölo.Great spot to have a break while walking around the bay.
Nice café open only in summer. Not much selection of products, but I strongly recommend the berries juices they offer.

Very cool place for a coffee.
Mixed crowd: youngsters, not so young people, students, tourists, people checking e-mails,
Well located and laid-back waiters/waitresses.
Internet access. Wifi.
Good music and interesting exhibitions

Great view over all the town. Terraces open in summer. Worth visiting for the view at sunset.
Very touristic, so many times overcrowded.
Overpriced.
Finnish way of friendly service: correct, but nothing extra, not even a smile.
Not the best place to have a good cocktail. Better to go down to the first floor bar of the hotel.

Great Terrace when the sun is shinning. ...good view over the Kamppi shopping center.
One of the places in town with the most horrible service.
Do not go for lunch, it is really slow!

I have tried both places: the Café and the Brasserie.
Cafe: plate was dirty, when I told the waitress not even an apology. Finally salad was good, but very very poor service.
Brasserie: I have been twice.
First time few days after the opening: food was excellent and very interesting menu.
Second visit, May 2008, not really appealing on the menu; my choices were:
- Octopussy-seafood cocktail with marinated asparagus. 15 euros. Overpriced and octopus was chewy, so it was not even well cooked.
- Seabass ( was the “plate de jour”) 33 euros: very good presentation and good sauce, wonderful spinash. However the filling of dried tomatoes really unbalance the rest of the tastes.
-Lemon parfait and licorice ice cream. 9 euros. The parfait was too acid, but the licorice icecream was excelent.
Poor menu selection, overpriced for the poor delivery of the food. An example of good ingredients but bad combination or not getting the point of cooking or of taste
Service was really slow.
Moreover, I think it is OUTRAGEOUS that after paying over 120 euros for a dinner for 2 people, you have to pay for your coat!!
