Great location for latest presentation of owner Alex Wong’s entrepreneurial skills. Cosy, bright venue in city centre location, next to St John’s and the Market. Fantastically tasty Malaysian menu (masterfully spiced – delicate and aromatic) with just the right balance of hot and sweet. Good portions – room only for half a pudding! Good value and warmest of welcomes.

Warm welcome to this cosy and homely mediterranean style restaurant. The unremarkable exterior is misleading. I won’t add to the excellent descriptions made by previous reviewers.
It was sorely tempting, viewing the long list of enticing tapas (also available as mains) but on this first visit we were eating as an extended family party, on a budget – so no starters, wine or afters, unfortunately.
There were plenty of vegetarian and non-veggie mains, but we all chose pizzas, which were beautifully fresh, large and generously covered with toppings. Salad was delightfully served with a subtle touch of herb flavoured dressing.
A small misunderstanding over one order was soon rectified, without fuss.

Looking forward to coming back for the rest of the menu!

Superb quality for good value in a nice, modern setting. 35 cover Bangladeshi influenced food with all the usuals plus a refreshing range of less frequently or never seen elsewhere traditional dishes. Menu is most clear I’ve yet read – with more sauces than I’ve seen before, each clearly explained. Classic test of quality to me was that the salad accompanying the starter was not dry from waiting but fresh and crisp; fresh herbs adorning beautifully marinated meat and fish dishes; popadoms not oily and nan bread perfectly done… in other words the basics were to perfection and the mains exceeded expectation. Wish I lived close enough to be a regular!

Dyma le am groeso hyfryd!

Most amazing heartfelt Italo-Welsh welcome, from each of the staff in turn! Like coming home – and the service was constant and consistently good.
Bwyd ‘cartref’ (‘Eidalaidd’) o’r safon orau ac mae’r staff yn sylwgar ac yn barod iawn eu cymwynas.

The food (pizzas, pastas, secondi specials of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes) are of the same spirit, genuine, home cooking of the very best quality, with authentic and fresh ingredients, presented simply and well.

Mae’r prisio’n rhesymol iawn – rhaid dod nôl eto cyn bo hir!

The meals are of very good value – my starter of cockles was a good bowlful.
Highly recommended – must visit again soon!

Good value, reasonably consistent and of authentic good quality, (some sauces a bit heavy for my personal liking) offering the usual northern range of meals; Tandoori, Balti etc. Delivery service reliable and polite and (perhaps because we live close) speedy.

We haven't compared with all the competition locally (quite a few tandoori/balti joints) but this is a takeaway; nearby Bay Tree and Cinnamon are obviously better, as sit down restaurants.

We've used Standard for almost 15 years and never had cause to complain about the food and only very rarely any discrepancy in the order. Long may they continue!

Consistently enjoyable with a slightly wider choice than is often available. Good portions. Crispy aromatic duck is a family favourite.

Delicious range of hot/cold snacks and meals, from breakfast till tea or later end of week. Home cooked style (superb quality) meals offer generous helpings for incredible value (c. £5.00 2011).
A cosy venue (tables small) which also happens to be a social enterprise, offering work experience and training to young adults. Staff are always cheerful and helpful. Chilli con carne and chicken curry very enjoyable; cakes and puddings when available are superb. Could do with better choice of fruit juices, but coffees are tidy.
Just across the road from magnificent Victoria Park.

Good quality projection and sound, with sufficient number of screens to offer a range of the most popular films. Offers some films not in English (mostly Asian).

The large auditoria can be cold and impersonal, seats are plush but I find them uncomfortable, especially after 90 minutes. Very large car park, but often full up in lots nearest to centre entrance as site also includes bowling, casino, Dr Who exhibit (said to be due to relocate), restaurants and ice cream/tea cafe and motel.
NB parking is charged unless spending at least £4 and validating ticket with outlet.

However, prices are too high (£10 per head for Dec. 2010 3D screening, making it a very expensive 'night out' for families, especially if extras such as popcorn, drinks or sweets are bought at their double or triple going rate prices).

Perhaps a good venue for couples (young or not) looking for blockbuster entertainment.

For a more relaxed, refined and affordable cinema experience, screening the best of world cinema, seek out the refurbished Chapter Arts in Canton: regular screenings for families and parents with babies.

The staff at Phi-B's are so welcoming you feel like family! Eating here is relaxing and hassle free. The food is reliably enjoyable and consistently of good quality. I've eaten here with my wife, with all the family and with a larger group. For the latter, we were given a wide selection of starters and main meals to share, all for an exceptionally good price. Some dishes are standouts and if there's talk of an outing or a take away feast with friends, the Phi-Bs is always in our top two or three when choosing, despite not being closest.

Cosy and comfortable, when not busy. Always seem to be couples on first dates, tucked away in the nooks and corners! Good pub chain food - meats/fish usually cooked as they should be, veg not as varied or always to the same standard. Seasonal menu offers decent variations on the usual (I had guinea fowl, my wife slow braised belly pork) but 'specials' are usually from the menu, perhaps on offer. Puddings vary little, if at all. Beverages not up to scratch, except for fresh juices in the summer and some wines. Staff sometimes too busy in summer, but tonight very attentive. A nice night out for a genuinely relaxing time in a cosy venue. Ideally placed for the superb visitor attraction (currently free entry) the Museum of Welsh Life - gardens, grand house, living history and events, park with collection of rebuilt historic houses and brilliant for tea and bara brith in the old style!
