Zucca - Bermondsey

184 Bermondsey Street, Southwark, London SE1 3TQ

20-04-2013

One of my favourite Italian places in London, but it could be because I live South of the river, as it is a bit of a trek from London Bridge station or Borough Station on foot!

Located on a village-y street, it does get full during popular times.

The staff are friendly, service is efficient, and the place has a very light and airy feel to it - especially during the daytime, when lots of light comes in through the floor to ceiling windows looking out into the street.

Prices are reasonable, and the food is pretty good - especially the pasta. Its not outstanding, but its above average quality in London.

Obikà South Kensington - Chelsea

96 Draycott Avenue, London SW3 3AD

20-04-2013

Probably the best place in London for buffalo mozzarella. My favourite here is the smoked buffalo mozzarella - have not had any other in London that are as good! Its apparently flown in fresh daily from Italy.

Service is good and friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and slightly romantic. Its a bit echoey and noisy downstairs, so try to get a table upstairs if you can.

Price-wise, its very reasonable for the food you get. The pumpkin ravioli is amazing - so much flavour in such small parcels!

Kimchee - Holborn

71 High Holborm, London wc1v 6ea

30-03-2013

The food here is very authentic - despite the kitchen looking like Wagamamas! Decor is very stylish and modern, and the prices are reasonable for the area.

Definitely gives the Korean place below Holborn station a run for its money.

Beware the huge queues though for dinner - they snake out the door! But table turnaround is fast, so you'll be in quickly.

They do seem a bit short staffed - takes a bit of time to get your order in and the bill at the end, but once you order, the food arrives quickly.

Restaurant Ekeko - Bemerode

Raupertstraße 25, 30539 Hannover

10-03-2013

Decent food, friendly atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Sme of the dishes were hit and miss - there were complaints of over salted meat, but this seems to be quite general about German food everywhere. My braised pork dish (can't remember the name) was not bad at all.

if this was in London, it would get 2 stars. But in a small town like Hanover, a town not particularly known for good food, this is probably above average.

Flugzeug Restaurant Silbervogel - Ricklingen

Mercedesstr. 1, 30453 Hannover

10-03-2013

One of the more interesting places to dine in Hannover! The interior is pretty cool, service is prompt (although the waiter doesn't speak any English), and the randomness of the location (in an industrial estate) adds to its cool factor.

The menu though is German only, which would be a problem . If you're a meat eater, just go for a gyros platter (mixed grilled meat) or a snitznel (breaded pork). Neither was the best, like ast food quality and slightly salty. Prices (10 euros for mains) are rather reasonable, as you get huge portions, including a whole bowl of salad Asia a starter included with the mains order.

Locationwise, only really practical if you have a car. It's about 20 minutes walk in a deserted industrial estate at night to the station.

No credit cards accepted either!

Harrison's - Balham

15-19 Bedford Hill, Balham, London SW12 9EX

24-02-2013

First visit to Harrison's, despite living in Balham for almost two years! They've just renovated and the place looks good. Service is friendly, and the food is good. Not the best and not the most creative, but decent food and a place I would probably go back to again and again as a local neighbourhood restaurant. Prices are reasonable and they do some interesting drinks.

Do try the welsh rarebit pork chop and the lamb fritters - pretty amazing!

The Wellington - Leeds

88 Wellington Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS1 4LT

02-01-2013

Food was just god awful. Popped down for a lunch with colleagues on a weekday. They have an adventurous menu, but the kitchen is not up to it. The risotto arrived at the table cold. The open beef sandwiches were ok, but small and not very good. The fish and chips, a staple of pubs, was soggy and the fish was so bland it was hard not to think of the frozen cardboard box it came in.

when we complained, the risotto went back to the kitchen but still came out lukewarm. No apologies from waitress or manager. We had to bargain for the risottos to be free.

So many better Gastropubs in the city centre, don't bother going to this one.

The Clapham Picture House - Clapham

76 Venn Street, Clapham, London SW4 0AT

26-12-2012

Great local cinema. Screens are small, but picture quality and sound quality top notch. Seats are really comfy - they even recline! Plus there's a great chill out bar downstairs and I think you can even bring wine into the screens.

The Pepper Tree - Clapham

19 Clapham Common Southside, Clapham, London SW4 7AB

26-12-2012

The Pepper Tree curry is one of the spiciest I've had in London - and for that reason, I will be back! The food is good, the service is OK, and the atmosphere is like Wagamamas.

But the prices are reasonable, the menu extensive, and above all the food is pretty good.

Portions are quite big too - the Pad Thai is absolutely enormous, and done well.

If you go for lunch on Mondays to Fridays, go for their set lunch for £7.50 - its a steal for both a starter and main course!

Urban Golf - Farringdon

13 Smithfield Street, London EC1A 9LA

21-10-2012

Great place for a night out. Huge basement area, with a great bar, and lots of small virtual golf booths.

Slightly hard to find the entrance though!
