Chambers Service Station - Gloucester

Hucclecote Road, Gloucester, Gloucestershire GL3 3TQ

Now rebranded as a bargain booze when having a party it’s worth popping in here to stock up. Sometimes the offers are better than what you can get at the supermarket, but what you gain in cheap booze you lose out with slightly dearer petrol than average. (Usually around 2-3pence a litre)
One other bonus is they operate a buy one get one free on the carwash however it’s always a good idea to check if the car wash is working before you use the second one as it can be a little temperamental at times.
Forecourt is always kept clean with clean handles.
It’s never busy there and the staff are all friendly and polite so buy your booze from here and go up the road to Tesco’s for your petrol.

Stephens Electrics - Gloucester

My washing machine decided to make some very odd noises and produce a nasty burning smell.
I paid a lot of money for it and rather than go out and buy a new one Mr Datcat decided to see what he could do. One very burnt out component was removed and after a quick flick through the yellow pages he called into these guys to see if they could help. The man behind the counter took a quick look and managed to locate a used one and said try this for free. It will either work or if it doesn’t its going to be £60.00 for a new one and if needed I can get it in a couple of days.

It worked so result.

We have used them for a couple of things not just for washing machines since then and the service has always been as good as the first time so this place is highly recommended.

Claire's Accessories UK - Gloucester

21 Kings Walk, Gloucester, Gloucestershire GL1 1RY

A tiny shop that’s full of glittery things so because I love glittery thing I always end up being drawn in. Some things look a bit cheap though and I avoid the makeup as in past it has caused my face to flare up and start itching I also dislike the ear piercing service as most of the piercing is done on very young children which usually results in loud crying. That is just my view though.
Some fab hair accessories which are man enough to deal with my mop and some of the ear rings are a bit mad, but that’s ok I like mad. Staff are very friendly and don’t jump on you as soon as you walk through the door.
Avoid on weekends as it can get absolutely packed with 9-15 year olds.

Visiting Mr Datcats mates we popped in here for a few drinks and I was truly scared as I watched 2 fights kick off within minutes of each other. Mind you it was a Saturday night not that excuses anything, but it’s kinda traditional here to have a fight on a Saturday night from what I can gather. The bouncer waded in after a while, but to be frank after seeing that we left very very quickly. I like my face the way it is. Not a terribly friendly pub and the drinks are overpriced anyway, so go anywhere else apart from here.

Royal Exchange Inn - Gloucester

Gloucester Road, Hartpury, Gloucester, Gloucestershire GL19 3BW

A country pub on the A417 in Hartpury. Open fires and a very pretty pub. What a pity that I found the landlord quite surly and the fact that a loud TV dominated the main bar. I go to country pubs to try and escape the unexceptional sight of a TV tuned into sky sports. I want a country pub with cosy open fires and maybe some quiet background music. Not the sound of some sports presenter screeching on about who scored what goal. Anyway having my drink slopped down in front of me and being grunted at isn’t going to make me a happy chappy. I wouldn’t bother with this pub to be honest as there are a couple of better pubs further down the road.

Automotive Parts Distribution - Gloucester

Unit 5, Shepherd Rd, Gloucester, Gloucestershire GL2 5EL

One of the best motor factors in Gloucester. If you need a bit for your car give these guys a ring, if they haven’t got the item in stock they can usually get it for you the next day. I’ve always found them to be extremely helpful and one of the cheapest too. Not easy to find though as they are tucked away in a row of units and not seen from the road, but as they deliver (business and residential) that isn’t important. You can pick up though if you so wish but although there is a car park it is quite small and not only that there are vans pulling in and out frequently.

Concord Cafe - Gloucester

44 Bristol Road, Gloucester, Gloucestershire GL1 5SD

21-01-2009

If you are in the Bristol road area and feel in need of a full English breakfast you would do well to go here.
It is a typical English greasy spoon, a bit small, but kept spotless and the food served is always hot tasty and plentiful for amazingly good value. They also serve other foods mostly with chips which are well cooked, but vegetarians might struggle.
Staff are always friendly and if you come here regularly enough you end up by just asking for the usual please. Parking bays are outside, but you will be lucky to get one however there are enough side streets nearby.

Sue Ryder Care - Cheltenham

159 Bath Road, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire GL53 7LU

A shop split into two sections. The one has clothing and all the usual bits and pieces you would find in a charity shop then you have the other side which is given over to books!
I can’t tell you what the clothes side is like as I have never set foot inside it, but the book one is absolutely brilliant. It’s a bit like the Dr Who tardis as it goes way back and looks like a second hand bookshop should. None of this new fangled halogen lit plastic covered shelving, it’s all wood shelves and the feeling that you never ever want to leave again until you have looked through all the books. Or maybe that’s just me.
The staff in there are always polite and friendly and are always happy to help you find that book title you just cannot remember.
The downside is although very long it is very narrow so wheelchair users and pushchairs will struggle.
Parking is a bit tricky. There are bays on the road, but you will be very lucky to find one empty.

Cocktails Hairdressers - Hucclecote

5 Glenville Parade, Gloucester, Gloucestershire GL3 3ES

21-01-2009

I had a bit of a hair panic this morning and needed to get my hair sorted. My usual hairdresser couldn’t get me in so out of the few I tried this place was the only one that could fit me in.
A fairly average hairdressers really, I think that’s the best I can say. It was clean, the decor was a little dated and although the person that cut my hair was nice enough I wouldn’t expect to be able to get a trendy cut here. So it was a good job I didn’t need one, just a tidy up and some length cut off (I’ll leave the colour bit to my usual hairdresser) Overall the cut was ok, but I had to ask her to take some more off the length and after that I was happy enough.
I don’t think I’ll be coming back here though as for what was done and how it was done the prices were a little high. Parking outside, but limited to 2 hours and they operate a clamp and tow which is enforced.

bekiodurny Just wanted to add that if you are in the salon for two hours plus, the parking is not limited to just two hours, as long as you are on the premises it is fine, it justs prevents people using the car park as a "park and ride" into town

Barclays Bank - Hucclecote

2-3 Glenville Parade, Gloucester, Gloucestershire GL3 3ES

A small branch, but offers just as good a service as the main one in town, in fact I would say slightly better as all the cashiers always greet me by my name and are always happy to help me with whatever enquiries I may have .There is also a Atm on the wall outside. It is in need of some updating as it looks a little frayed around the edges, but for all that I still recommend this branch. Plenty of parking outside, but they do operate a clamp and tow if you are longer than 2 hours or not using any of the shops in Glenville parade.
