Torrington Fish Bar - Coventry

4 Torrington Avenue, Coventry, West Midlands CV4 9AR

20-01-2009

Torrington avenue fish shop is just off the A45 opposite sainsburys.
Its next to a paper shop too so you can get a magazine/paper too.
Its not the biggest of fish and chip shops but is adequate.
You can get about 8 people in the shop before its getting full.
The staff are ok in here, could be batter ( lame joke), but hey it could be a lot lot worse.
They sell the usual that you would expect from a chippy.
On to the food, if you want fish fine no problems here, they taste very very nice.
Chips , well if you get fresh ones they are fine, but they have been known to be a little old and being not as nice as they could be.
The kebabs here are nice but the lamb is kept in water to keep it moist which is not ideal really.
Apart from those little moans the shop is actually quite nice.
The prices are reasonable too so no complinats there either.
All in all a nice chippy on a good day and at worst and ok chippy on a bad day, so 3 stars for this as it is a bit of a let down.

I Chinese - Coventry

104 Spon End, Coventry, West Midlands CV1 3HF

20-01-2009

I chinese is a chinese take away. Base in spon end coventry they deliver and you can collect. They also have a website for doing the same too.
They are very freindly on the phone and in person if you collect.
The delivery charge is free if you order over a certain amount which is fair really.
They give you a rough estimate as to how long your food will take. Sometimes mine has come in 15 minutes and others have taken longer.
The food from i chinese is great value for money.
You get loads of food per portion and the menu is fantastic.
I have never had a bad order from them and ive had a few orders i can tell you that.
The food is really nice and all cooked brilliantly.
So if you want a nice chinese when your either out and about or fancy a night in I chinese deliver good quality food thats affordable and relatively quick to your door without any fuss.

Woolworths - Coventry

70 Riley Square, Coventry, West Midlands CV2 1LY

20-01-2009

Before woolworths closed down completely this store was located in bell green,.
The store itslef was very large and had lots of stuff in it.
To your right when you walked in was the cd section selling the latest chart singles and albums.
Next to this was the game section.
Toward the back of the store was toys and other bits and bobs , along with sweets. Sweets are one of the large things for woolies.
But as woolies came into difficulties everything became a bargain price, and they were selling off everything as cheap as possible.
When i say everything i mean everything. They were even selling the shelving used to hold their goods too. Anything that was detachable was basically on sale.
This was a bit bizarre really, seeing signs telling you if intrested in actual store parts to talk to the manager.
During this sale items were reduced to silly prices with 60% off items to start with and a further 30% off in the final days of clearout.

Allens Taxis - Coventry

12a Britannia Street, Coventry, West Midlands CV2 4FS

20-01-2009

A review of a taxi service made me think that no one probably would do it. So here goes.
Alans taxis probably the easiest number to remember especially if you remember the radio adverts. six 5’s
You dial , we’ll drive. I remeber the advert no problems.
So away from the catchy tune and to where it matters most, their service.
When you ring up your call will be answerd within 10 seconds and a polite person on the other end will ask you where to pick you up from, and where your going to.
They give you a rough estimate as to how long your taxi will be. This is usually no more than 10 minutes unless its 2 in the morning on a saturday night.
When they arrive you get two types of driver.
One who will ring you and say im outside :).
The other will just hit the horn to alert you they are there.
So into the cab and away you go.
Again you get two types of driver.
The first is the say nothing type just drive and speak when really required to.
The second is one who makes you feel welcome and will gladly chat about your day and theirs as well any other topic as well.
Great service from a reknown taxi firm.

Fishy Moores - Coventry

38 City Arcade, Coventry, West Midlands CV1 3HW

20-01-2009

Fishy moores, the famous fish and chip shop in Coventry.
Once loacted by the old bus station past the motor museum it lit up the front of shops that were also along there. Before apartment blocks were built.
Now it has reloacted to the city arcade, well the far end of it which is much lighter and almost opposite ikea.
Fishy moores serves excellent fish and chips, with out a doubt they are put simply stunning.
It now sports a large area for people to sit down inside.
They have fast efficient staff who are helpful and friendly.
The new fishy moores looks nicer and fresher than the old version did , but the old plaice ( poor joke) had a history behind it and aged with the city as it were. The new one wont be able to do this as easily.
Whether fishy moores is still remembered as it was in its glory days is something to be seen. I remember its old position but cant say what it used to be like in terms of staff or food. But at present its all it should be!

Druckers - Stratford-upon-Avon

43 Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire CV37 6QW

20-01-2009

Druckers is a lovely place to have a drink and get a bit to eat.
They sell a selcetion of cakes and pastries , you will be spoilt for choice mind as they do sell a lot. Including chocolate cake and other lovlies.
Not only that but they sell other types of food too.
I bought a tea cake here and some panini/toaste sandwhichs are they are really really nice.
You can have some good meals too.
The only downside to this otherwise decent cafe is the prices and the staff.
The majority of the staff dont really seem too happy, the odd couple do though which kind of half makes up for the grumpy one.
And the prices which i believe are quite steep for what you actually get.
But prices are stiffling everywhere now days so its hard to really justify whether its expensive or not depending on who you compare them to.
Druckers is easy to find and does have quite a large seating area, the toilets are set right at the back out of the way.

HMV - Stratford-upon-Avon

12-13 High Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire CV37 6AU

20-01-2009

Hmv in Stratford is easy to find and as usual as with all their stores they sell music, games, dvds and other bits and bobs.
This store is very very narrow which is for the size of other stores a bit dissappointing. But never the less it still holds up quite well.
Being narrow means if two people want to pas each other you quite literally have to turn sideways to pass its that small.
Once past that problem its clear the store requires more room.
The tills are set back to aid with room on the left of the store on the way in.
Recent releases of cd etc are at the fron of the store. And as you go further back you find more music, dvds and the game section.
Right at the back of the store you will find an area which sells headphones and speakers from makes such as Bose, Sony and philips. I pod accessories are also available too.
The store gets 4 out of 5 as the staff being helpful and the amazing amount of stock they cram in makes up for the store being stupidly small.

Lush Stratford - Stratford-upon-Avon

31 High Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire CV37 6AU

20-01-2009

Lush is one of those great shops you smell a mile away before you see it. Which if youve been near or in one you know is true.
Lush sell lots of bath and shower stuff.
By stuff i mean jellies , hair care, shampoo, soaps and other bath bombs and fizzers.
All natural and great smelling. You can also buy massage bars and gift sets all for both men and women.
This shop in stratford is no exception to the brilliant chain of stores.
The staff in every store are just great. They will chat to you help you out if need be and even recomend things if you havent tried them before.
The other cool thing is that they have tester pots and parts of lots of their products, giving you a great try before you buy experience!
5 stars as these shops are really good value for money and you feel welcomed when you walk in.
So treat yourself or your partner to a nice relaxing bath/massage

Gabriel's Fish & Chips - Coventry

17 Earlsdon Street, Coventry, West Midlands CV5 6EP

20-01-2009

Gabriels fish bar is on earlsdon high street and looks quite small from the outside.
On the inside the shop is quite long but narrow. You could probably get around 8 -10 people in there without too much of a squeeze.
They usually have around 3 people serving at one time which makes it easier and quicker to serve people.
The food available is the same as an chippy, fish, chips, kebabs - lamb and chicken as well as pies and sausages, fish cakes and scallops.
The food they sreve is very nice, i cant say i have had a bad experience here. It always tastes fresh which is good to know.
The priceing of their food is ok, it could be cheaper for what you order but on the other hand it could be more expensive too. So i think their prices are just above average.
The pricing of drinks is extremely high as with all chippy’s, so buy them elsewhere if you can and save a few bob.
Great place to get fish and chips from, great food and reasonable prices!

Cafe Napoli - Coventry

Smithford Way, Coventry, West Midlands CV1 1QS

20-01-2009

Cafe Napoli is located at the top of west orchards in the food court.
It competes for custom from the likes of mcdonals and subway as well as healthier foods too.
Cafe Napoli serevs traditional hot food and pizzas.
I think the best thing they serve is pizza, which is very good value for money and taste delicious.
They also sell different things on different days.
So one day it might be lasgane, another a shepards pie for example.
All dinners can be accompanied by tea/ coffee and a side either chips, salad or i believe a couple of other options too.
The staff are freindly and make you feel welcomed.
Cafe napoli is very popular with all ages and seems to do a roaring trade, which is good to see as i really enjoy the food especially as it is fresh and coocked dialy there and then!If you havent already experienced their food you should miss mcdonalds for a day and try here instead! Its healthier!
