Ghirardelli Chocolate - San Francisco
N Point St # 52 900, CA, 94109 San Francisco
31-07-2011
Ghirardelli square is one of the most famous places and with chocolate, ice cream and so much more you absolutely have to visit here.
Why?
Because Ghirardelli and SF are entwined :-)
But also there is more chocolate here than you could every possibly imagine ever eating and the first thing they do is thrust a piece in your hand.
Lovely!!

XOX Truffles - San Francisco
Columbus Ave 754, 94133 San Francisco

Using CacaoBarry to make their truffles and then placing them in a very cold fridge, these are interesting truffles. There are accolades all over the shop about the owner and when I was in there one of the staff was talking about how she was training to make the truffles.
Interesting and really nice but I’m not sure that I was as thrilled by these truffles as others I have had.
Hooker's Sweet Treats - San Francisco
Hyde St 442, 94109 San Francisco

This place sells some of the best chocolate anywhere but what they are famous for is the saltes caramel they sell. It is all handmade and is absolutely delightful. You can get it fully covered in chocolate or only part dipped. Despite its location in the dangerous Tenderloin area, I cannot recommend highly enough a trip here during the dailight hours.
Another SF must visit
See's Candies - San Francisco
20th Ave 3250, 94132 San Francisco

Not great but not bad chocolate I suppose. The staff here aren’t at all educated in chocolate – they really are just shop employees. The chocolate is really nothing to make a special visit for. If you are heading back to whatever country you came from and have US money to spend because you’ll never be back, there is Fof City News across the street.
CocoaBella Chocolates - San Francisco
Union Street 2102, Marina/Cow Hollow, 94123 San Francisco

This is a place you’ll find top notch and very good chocolate alike. They have collected great filled chocolates from all sorts of chocolatiers and brought them together as well as bringing extraordinary chocolate bars to the general public. You don’t have to venture to Fog City News every day if you are closer to a CocoaBella.
While there is some not so great chocolate here and the staff are not as educated as the folk at Fog City News, it is still a great place to find some of the best chocolate the WORLD has to offer. Really, yet another must visit chocolate shop in San Francisco.

From Nasa to chocolate the interest here beyond the chocolate itself is the manufacturing process. You can travel around the factory on a tour if you reserve online in advance. If you aren’t lucky enough to get in a tour, you can try the different chocolate on offer.
Interestingly for high quality chocolate, they are not seeing a good single estate chocolate here but flavour notes so they combine origins to achieve the flavour they seek, whether ‘citrus’, ‘fruity’, ‘chocolaty’ or the other flavours.
Absolutely worth a visit and another of my must visit chocolate locations.
Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker - San Francisco
Ferry Building 1, Shop #14, 94105 San Francisco

A mixed review for this place.
They have OK chocolate and they are trying to make a difference and they have nice baked goods but I had a weird experience with one of the shop assistants and so I can’t give it 5 stars.
Worth a peek but I think there is better chocolate in SF
Recchiuti - San Francisco

Absolutely fantastic!
While this is not purely high quality, this is about as close as you’re going to get to high quality in a blend in San Fran.
With quality bars made from quality blends, chocolates made with high quality chocolates and other treats, this is a must visit chocolate shop.
What I really loved recently was the wine & chocolate and whisky & chocolate pairing kits they have created – brilliant innovation!
Fog City News - San Francisco
Market St 455, 94105 San Francisco

This place is the go-to place for chocolate lovers. If you want to find a high-quality chocolate bar from Patric, Rogue, or other chocolate makers, this is the place you’ll find it. Tons of samples, educated staff and despite being in the financial district they are open on Saturday this is an absolute MUST VISIT chocolate shop.
Do not be fooled by the name of the shop – this place is absolute high quality chocolate gold!
Odile Chocolat - Toronto
Dundas St West 829, M6J 1V4 Toronto

A tiny lovely chocolate shop with a passionate chocolatier who makes the chocolate on the premesis. The wide array of chocolates are all fresh and while when I visited there was a lot of construction it was an oasis of calm.
While the chocolates may not be top notch, the freshly made and non-bulk standard nature of them means I really recommend them.
The woman who runs the shop is passionate about her chocolate and really works hard to perfect her recipes. Go here if you want something different – it is absolutely worth the trip.
