good vets .but the other day i wanted some flea spray for my cat .they would not sell me any until i took in my cat.they said it was prescription medicine. hmmmm… so i went down the road to another vets and got exactly the same one they would nt sell me . and they offered a free cat fleaing.
GunnersMom If this is the only problem with this vet practice, it needs to be put into perspective.
There are a number of LEGAL reasons an animal must be examined before flea treatment can be handed over to the owner, mainly for the health and safety of the animal.
Wrongly given flea treatment can be very harmful to pregnant, sick or elderly animals, and can kill, especially cats, if the wrong dose and flea prevention/killer is given. Telling people to go else where then a vet who adheres to these legal rules and checks the patient is going to endanger animal lives.
It also gives you, the owner, no channel if the animal has an allergic reaction, which can happen, especially in the young, old or sick (and don’t forget, illness isn’t always symptomatic - just cause you think your cat looks healthy, doesn’t mean it is!)
If a vet is giving out flea treatment without checking the health status of the pet in question, they are breaking the law on veterinary prescription medicines, and are taking a huge risk with your pet’s life.
