Disco People - Westminster

London SW1P 3JX

09-02-2008

Disco People are DJs who absolutely love what they do. They stay up all night playing music at home because they enjoy it so much and their enthusiasm really comes across in their sets. They’re very helpful and experienced. Whatever question you ask them, they’re ready with the answer and really happy to tailor their music sets to whatever you want from them. Their pricing is really straightforward as well - £299 per party and they can do anywhere in London and Kent. I found them professional and reliable and would definitely work with them again.

Craft Jungle - Bromley

17 Station Approach, London BR2 7EQ

19-01-2008

This shop stands out from the outside as a fun and exciting little gem. And it is! You can find all sorts of goodies in here to that you can use to make your own cards and jewellery etc. There's a lovely selection of stamps, ideal for personalising Christmas cards or wedding invitations. It's not too expensive and the staff are friendly, creative and helpful. Scrap book making classes are taught here which anyone can sign up for. Parking can be difficult so try one of the residential side roads and you should find somewhere fairly nearby.

The Pier - Bromley

3 Elmfield Rd, London BR1 1LW

19-01-2008

This is an oasis of calm next to a hectic shopping centre in the middle of Bromley. There is a huge selection of household goods from burning oils to crockery to cabinets. It’s always a good place to browse for presents as there are lots of high quality, unusual and reasonably priced gadgets and decorations. On the upper floor, at the back, there is a discount section where good bargains await you. The service is quick and friendly but parking can be difficult. There are plenty of options but they are pricey and traffic can increase your trip dramatically here. Regardless of that, it’s definitely worth it and, if you’re in Bromley anyway, it’s a great way to escape the crowds and find a little gift for yourself.

Morrisons - Orpington

70 Queensway, London BR5 1DB

19-01-2008

Morrisons is ideal for those looking to save money and avoiding a trip to some of the larger supermarkets. However, you do have to sacrifice on service for this. Check your bill well - I've found errors on mine on multiple occasions! The customer service managers are extremely efficient at refunding the extra charges on incorrect bills but this does give me the impression that it happens all too often. Fresh food from Morrisons doesn’t last too long or taste particularly flavoursome but it’s fine for tinned and frozen foods and they do provide some interesting options for those looking to try something different. The car park at this store is free which is a bones but it’s difficult to get in and I’ve scratched my car trying to negotiate the corner to the lower floor parking area.

Co-op - Bromley

2 Chatterton Rd, London BR2 9QN

19-01-2008

Prices are much higher than in supermarket chains like Tesco but the focus on fair trade goods at the Co-op redeems that fact. The main attraction is convenience as the store is well stocked with all the essentials you might need and saves a trip to a supermarket. Also, since it’s open until 9pm on weekdays, it’s useful when you need a last minute ingredient for dinner. Saturdays are busy and it’s not unusual to find bare shelves later in the day so it really is suited for weektime supplies rather than Saturday afternoon full shops. Queues are normally short although at times they can get out of hand. The staff are very friendly and could easily work in Waitrose which always helps!

WAGGLES PET EMPORIUM - Bromley

34 Chatterton Rd, London BR2 9QN

19-01-2008

This pet shop had a delightful selection of rabbits there last time I visited. I fell in love immediately and had to be dragged out before I bought one! There aren't many other animals there. This is definitely more of a pet supplies shop rather than a pet shop where you can buy a pet. Even so, it's well stocked with all the basics. Live food like crickets is ordered once a week so it's best to place an order if you need it regularly. Parking can be difficult in this road but there are lots of nearby residential roads where you should be able to stop for a while.

Thomas Cook - Beckenham

250-252 High Street, London BR3 1DZ

19-01-2008

My experience of Thomas Cook in Beckenham was perfect. I had quite rigid requirements for my holiday but the sales assistant was very dedicated and spent an hour searching for the ideal holiday to match the spec. It was calm and comfortable in the shop and I was happy to wait while flicking through all the options he provided. The deposit was incredibly small and the sales assistant was happy for me to call back later after thinking about it. It was refreshing to be given that time and not pressured into a quick decision. I would definitely recommend this as a port of call when you're looking to book your next holiday.

A M Kitchen Design - Bromley

217 Southborough Lane, London BR2 8AT

19-01-2008

In this privately owned kitchen shop, you get a pesonlised service in a calm environment. There aren't many kitchens on display but the owner is very accomodating and normally able to find what you want. This is a relaxed shop where you're not put under pressure and can take your time to find something that's just right. Parking can be difficuly, especially at peak times like on Saturdays, so it's best to park in one of the side streets behind the shop and walk round the corner.

Chat Corner - Bromley

54 Chatterton Rd, London BR2 9QE

19-01-2008

This is a delightful place to go shopping for your fruit and veg on a Saturday morning. Although there aren't many exotic choices, there's a good selection of standard fruit and veg and the staff are welcoming. I was surprised at how cheap a weekly shop is here and it always lasts well. Flowers and plants can also be bought from the display outside the shop and it's open until 5pm. Parking can be difficult but there are plenty of side streets within a short walking distance.

Southlands Road Park - Bromley

Southlands Road, London BR2 9QY

19-01-2008

This is a reasonably small park compared to some in Bromley but it's a good find since it rarely gets too busy. There are football fields in the middle and a concrete pathway runs round the outside of the park so it's good for runners and dog walkers. There is shelter from a large tree in the middle which is ideal for picnics in the summer. The playground area is fairly good. Not overly modern but there's enough to keep the young ones amused for some time. Look out carefully for the entrance to this park, which can be easily missed.
