Le Montmartre - Holborn
46 Fleet Street, Fleet Street,, London EC4Y 1BN

Le Montmartre is a little french bakery in fleet Street. The atmosphere is very Parisian, with French music and great quality baguettes. The best one is le fermier, with chicken and Dijon mustard, and my favourite crepe is the one with Nutella and banana.
I usually walk from Saint Paul (1/2 mile) to get there at lunch time, but never regretted it!

Great Italian place tucked away at the end/beginning of Columbia road... depending where you come from... Of course if you go there on a sunny Sunday, like I did, expect crowds and especially Italians but at least you know you're in the right place! Recommend their cheese and ham boards as well as their orecchiette with clams. Beautiful - although slightly overpriced (£15 per dish). Coffee a must

Very cute small family-business gem in the "good" part of Hackney. Geniune atmosphere as soon as you step in: first the traditional Georgian music, then the intimacy of the 5 tables inside (+2 outside when sunny), finally the vintage decor given by old gramophones and black and white portraits. They serve Georgian food of course which consists of deep flavoured dishes, sometimes spicy and always surprising like their Borscht, ricotta blini or their beef stew. Careful, BYO policy so make sure you get some wine at the Turkish store 100m up on the road. Recommended to book in advance, they won't keep the table for more than 10min...

Being a local, this is one of my favorite places to enjoy a Belgium beer and a nice (much filling) European-style dish. Staff are welcoming, provide good advice for the less connoisseur that want a change from English Lager and challenge their palate! They have loads of draft beer (especially kriek lambic) and It will take you years before you overcome their 100 something beer menu (could be a hobby tough)! They also organize beer tasting event so 100% chance you'll find the liquid that rocks your world!
Food is filling and nicely presented, dishes are varied (mediterranean, English but also Asian). Better to get there when hungry! Also very cheap (£20 for a 2-people dinner, beer included)!

I love the idea of having my bike fixed while I can either grap a coffee at Lock 7 or snag a quick meal at Broadway market. I am not a professional cyclist but they seemed quick and efficient, not overpriced and they did the work with the smile! Careful: This place can be very busy at week ends because of Broadway mkt proximity. Closed on Mondays. Little downside: although they open at 8am from Tues-sat which can be convenient, they close a bit early (6pm).

high-quality food, service was perfect, place was clean and tidy. Both the sea plate and the ham croquette were very fresh and tasty. Highly recommended for a quick bite before going to the spa or the theatre...

Ended up there randomly on a heavy rainy day in Bath, found fine cuisine, nice cosy atmosphere (pick the small room on the left, less mainstream than the 1st room a bit Ikea-style) and extremely welcoming staff (the maitre d'hotel at the door was talking to us through the dishes)... I thought food was actually a little pricey especially given the size of the dish (£30 each for main+dessert and still a bit hungry) but raffined, It managed to combine original mixes in a nicely presented way... I recommend the date and fig pudding assorted by honey ice cream. Good quality meat and also well cooked (medium rare was medium rare and not soleshoe!)

I stumbled in this rather original pizza place while originally looking for a place to drink on a lazy Sunday afternoon... I soon became quite apalled by the concept of an Organic pizza and ended up eating one! The crust is super thin and it looks like the stuffing is just thrown on the cooked crust at the very last minute. Delicious topping (artichokes, Parma ham...). No question the place is packed with Italians ... Also there's a chance you'd be surprised by the staff looks/attitude. Seems like they came straight from a bohemian camp, but hey, it's part of the atmosphere with the small shells and feathers hanging from the ceiling...
Columbia Road Flower Market - Shoreditch

An institution on Sundays... Even if you don't want to buy flowers, or I you don't have a green thumb... This place is perfect for an on-the-go brunch and just wandering around with no particular goal is very nice!
I recommend you go early to avoid the tourists crowds (for some reason, the french are prominent there but, hey, the French are everywhere!)
I just hope this market is not going to become a mainstream place to hang out on Sundays... Let's keep it for londoners (and east londoners)
If you are more interested in food than flowers, flock to the broadway market which takes place on Saturdays... And be as always, early !

Best place to swim in east London, the 33 m pool is most of the time empty at the week-end so no wonder its closure was at stake! Ladies swim on Tuesdays, therefore the place gets super busy on this day and you annoyingly need to queue to enter the pool! (2 slots: 6.30-7.30 or 7.30-8.30). Also difficut to join at the middle of a session... So forget about Tuesdays!
Free swims every Friday ( never been there though), guess it is packed as well!
Gym is also nice with plenty of equipment, but never tried their classes.
Staff not welcoming at all but, hey, you're there to swim, it's not a 4-star hotel!
CJB666 Would be nice if they cleaned the pool and surrounds now and again. In Japan in the public pools a whistle is blown every hour. Then everyone must get out and visit the toilet if required, and take a shower – whilst the surrounds are disinfected. But then this doesn’t happen here because we are a filthy country with filthy habits like urinating in the pool water.
