The Ash Tree - Ashton-under-Lyne

9-11 Wellington Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester OL6 6DA

19-11-2008

Set slap bang in the centre of Ashton town centre across the road from the newly refurbished market hall.
Being a pub with no music ringing out loudly its a great meeting point. You can sit and chat and actually hear your friend speak. Food great and brilliant value when you take advantage of the offer available.

Friday ,Saturday and Sunday evenings are really busy in the bar and usually everyones first port of call before venturing on an Ashton Pub crawl

4kids I agree wholeheartedly with you its always been a meeting place for me and my friends on a night out

Nice country setting and only 10 mins from Ashton Town centre. Food is good, but on the expensive side for what you get. Run of the mill pub dinners really .Nothing over the top. Good sunday lunch.

Needs a good play area for kids asthey can get bored easily once they have eatten. Waited along time in between courses.

Ikea - Ashton-under-Lyne

You can miss this place .I’m sure you will be able to see this blue and yellow building from Space.

Located in the centre of Ashton near to the bus and train station. All other shops are direct facing IKEA A brand new Aldi adding to the list.
Ikea is large and located on several floors. Theres plenty of lifts and exulaters so no need for the stairs.
Nicely laid out with lots of displays.
The best bit is the market place at the end of your shopping experiance of show rooms.

Cheap and cheerful items on sale. You can’t knock value. Great if your just starting out with you first house.

THIS PLACE IS WELL WORTH A VISIT.

Set on the canal side in an old canal boat shed-(large brick building). It is like stepping back in time when you visit the old chippy and pub. Shops and pawn brokers have been recreated with al th old goods that were on sale many years ago. A bar of soap 4d. They have also recreated a church and school room.
Well worth a school trip with activities for pupils. They are even taken back to the Victorian era in the old schol room and put through the 3 Rs by a strict looking teacher. She is great at acting out the roll .
Down stairs are the more industrial machinery used locally 100 years or so ago.

Theres a smal cafe and sovenier shop that is resonably priced.

Best thing is that its free of chrage. A great visit for old and young alike

Imperial War Museum North - Manchester

Well worth a visit in the school holidays with the kids. Another great FREE day out in Manchester.

Theoutside is very modern and impressive to look at . Staff are friendy and helpful.

The exhibitions themselves are interesting and informative. Younger children may get a little bored ,but I would recommend it for your Grandad to visit. Theres a good audo thing going on and the lights go low and you can imagine what it was like in the blitz or trenches.

Toys 'R' Us - Manchester

Great Ancoats Street, Manchester, Greater Manchester M4 6DJ

A large well packed store with a good range of toys and games . Look out for some great offers on selected lines .They are a real money saver. Great that you can find everything under one roof.

Only down point is the ques at checkouts. Not enough staff working in busy periods.

Museum of Science and Industry - Manchester

Brilliant day out for all the family. Take a walk back to the victorian era or explore the world of steam engines and air craft. In the main building there is a great interactive section where the kids can explore science.
My tip would be to take a packed lunch as the restraunt is little expensive. There are lots of seats provided indoors to take a well earned rest .

Best of all its FREE
