London Planetarium & Madame Tussaud's - Marylebone

Marylebone Road Marylebone Road, Marylebone, London W1U 6NS

19-11-2008

It is known as an overpriced tourist-trap. You will queue for hours for a packed museum and the sheer volume of people crammed inside this building may make it a less enjoyable experience. However, if you like celebrities and want to do the touristy attractions then you’ll enjoy it. There are a lot of them to see here from celebrities and sport stars to world leaders. The models are made to a very high standard. They are extremely life-like. Even their hair looks touchable. You can even take photographs inside the museum and next to the models.

The Astoria - Soho

157 Charing X Road, London W1D 2DH

19-11-2008

The London Astoria was a cinema during the 1920s before becoming a music venue. The outside still does look very much like an old cinema.
The capacity is half the size of Brixton Academy’s with room for around 1,600 - 2,000 people.
This venue is not as famous as the academy but a lot of big acts have played here such as Nirvana, Radiohead and Oasis. Typically though, this seems to be the venue that bands play before they reach 'Brixton Academy status’. It is the stepping stone, so to speak.
It’s still a brilliant venue however in one of the best parts of London.

London Eye - South Bank

55 Victoria St, South Bank, London SW1H 0EU

15-11-2008

From here you will get the best view of London. If you buy tickets online you get a 10% discount however it is probably best to buy on the day as to avoid going when the weather is foggy or raining. You will get the most of the view on a clear day. If the queues are busy then you can buy tickets from other vendors. The capsules are always very spacious and you are given a good amount of time in them for what you pay.

Westfield London - Shepherds Bush

Ariel Way, Shepherds Bush, London W12 7GF

15-11-2008

A fantastic range of shops, from luxury brands to highstreet. I went on the first day of its opening and it was very crowded. All the computers which had maps were broken so it made it hard to navigate. Despite this I managed to see most of it. I enjoyed a wonderful meal in the Wagamama too.

Waterloo Station - Waterloo

York Road, Waterloo, London SE1 7ND

15-11-2008

Waterloo Station has a good selection of useful stores which are ideal for when travelling. These include Boots and WH Smith. They have a lot of ticket machines all the way along the station to cut the time of queing. The timetables are clear and there are a lot of staff around compared to most stations.

Waterstone's Oxford Street West - Mayfair

421 Oxford Street, London W1C 2PQ

15-11-2008

The staff are always helpful and they will go out of their way to find what you are looking for. The book selection is huge and the best that I have seen in any book store.
It’s also worth visiting just to relax too. You can grab a book, sit on a leather sofa and chill. Compared to other stores on Oxford Street this store is a pleasure to visit.

Tate Modern - Southwark

Bankside, Southwark, London SE1 9TG

15-11-2008

The best art gallery in England. You will find so many famous and mind-provoking pieces here, all presented beautifully. Artists whose work is shown here include Matisse (the snail), Bacon, Dali and Pollock. The building itself is very clean and well lit. It is free for the main exhibitions but you pay for exhibitions on Level 4. You can also donate money. It’s easy to find and is just a short minute walk Southwark and Blackfriars.

Museum In Docklands Project - Docklands

West India Qy North Hertsmere Road, London E14 4AB

15-11-2008

Brilliant museum in West India Quay on the history of the docks and life around it. There are fun and interactive areas for kids such as Sailortown (a model village) and London, Sugar & Slavery. The museum is very interesting with so much to do you will need a few hours here to get the most out of it. Prices are very good value. Admission is £5 for adults and kids go free.

Hamleys - West End

188 - 196 Regent Street, Soho, London W1B 5BT

15-11-2008

I went there last christmas and wasn’t too impressed. Seem to remember being a bit more wonderous when I was smaller. Fao Swartz in New York is a lot more how toy shops are depicted in kids movies where as Hamleys is more like a Toys R Us crammed into a 5-story building. They offer a good selection of toys however.

Ed's Easy Diner - Soho

12 Moor Street, Old Compton Street, London W1D 5NG

15-11-2008

A 1950’s themed diner in the heart of the London. The best thing about this place are the milkshakes! They are so delicious! The diner is very small and can be cramped and noisy but it is great for a quick novelty meal. Good value for money too.
