The Craft Beer Co. - Brixton
11-13 Brixton Station Road, Brixton, London SW9 8PD
17-11-2012
But now, on to the review -
The pub itself is conveniently located - its just behind the railway arches and you can't miss it due to the eye-catching orange sign above the door. The interior isn't bad, its a bit sparse, but that's what you can expect from a place claiming to focus on just the beer. The walls upstairs have pictures of (Mikkeller?) the various steps of the brewing process.
On to the beer itself -
I must say it was disappointing! What got me in the door, in the first place was the craft beer sign. However, beer has to taste good. I don't care if its mass-produced, small-brewery-destroying lager, if it tastes good, then its good beer. Craft brewers have definitely set a high standard for the brews they've been producing over the years, hence the increasing following. But, if you produce a tepid pint, which has no head, no proper carbonation, and is devoid of all flavour - then, even if its craft beer - its basically swill. Plus, craft beer does tend to be more expensive than "commercial" beer.
Verdict -
The pub itself is nice and conveniently located. But the beer has been disappointing! However, you can't not give people another chance. I will pay another visit soon, and if the beer is still disappointing, I would recommend you give this place a miss. After all, no matter how new and snazzy a pub is, if it doesn't serve you a decent pint, its not doing its job!

Fantastic! Great value for money. Had the sirloin steak (under 10quid) and a mango smoothie. Absolutely recommended. Friendly service. Food excellently prepared. A rare gem in London which is full of overpriced places dishing up crap.

The reviews here really let me down! No character in this place – dirty, bad lighting, and bad selection of drinks.
velogal Wow you must have walked into a different pub. This is a gem of place – not dirty at all – in fact if the landlady catches you putting your feet on the furniture expect a slap.
Great food home cooked and a good deal. The drinks may be a tad more expensive – but you get to see live music for free. And not just any old live music . The cream of Jamaican session musicians play here. Contemporaries of Don Drummond these guys ahve played with every one from Amy Winehouse , Sugar Mynott to Aswad and all over the world. Awesome and so friendly you could weep.

Bad food. Smells. Overpriced. If you have to visit, do it on a sunny summer evening where you can down an ice cold pint of Sagres outside.

A real gem! Authentic flavours and excellent quality for an affordable price. Friendly service as well. A bit cramped, but that’s Soho for you. Must visit for a genuine lamb shawarma!
P.S. Eat-in service on a weekday is slow. 20 minutes for your order to arrive.

Rip off! Lunch for two cost £45. Food was badly cooked and ingredients used were low quality. Avoid at all costs!
