Even though I received a text and email to say the parcel was in the shop and ready to collect, the owner claimed she didn't have it, the driver lost it, that the driver loses things all the time, WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING FOR MY PARCEL. I asked her to check with other members of staff, maybe someone else accepted it, as I received confirmation that the parcel is there. She said these texts and emails are sent by mistake etc etc. I then stood in her shop and called Collect Plus and spoke to them on the phone. The Collect Plus rep on the phone confirmed that they had a signature from "S Patel" who accepted my parcel, so it must be in the shop. I then told the shop owner this, and it was only THEN that she said "okay hold on, I will look for it", but she made me stand by for a further 15 minutes (I was in the shop for about 40 minutes by this time) whilst she served other customers, had a chat with the workman etc etc, all whilst I was on the phone to collect + and did not even start looking. As she still hadn't started looking, the Collect + representative then agreed to call the shop on my behalf, through on the Paypoint line. The rep from Collect Plus then had to call the shop, and funnily enough, as soon as paypoint called the shop, the husband of the woman I was speaking to in the shop came down, looked for my parcel, and found it
And then, without ANY APOLOGY, the lady turned round and said to me "you told me it was from ASOS so I was looking for a grey bag, so it is your fault we could not find the parcel". Not only was this a lie, but can you imagine how horrible that is? For them to have my parcel, then tell me they didn't have it, and not even look, and after all that, not even get an apology and just say "it's my fault"? Disgraceful. What a horrible woman.
Toby Carvery - Bedford

if it was not for the fact that you cannot book a table at the Toby Carvery and the staff who now work there, we may go there more often.
on a Sunday, you have to turn up, say you want a table and they put you on a list. the waiting time is on average 40 minutes to an hour (i am not exaggerating at all) which means if you want to go you need to get there before you get hungry knowing that by the time it is your turn to a table, you will be rather than when you are hungry. on a weekday evening the waiting time is 20-30 minutes depending on which night.
the food is always tasty and there is always plenty of vegetables available. the staff used to be really nice, but over the last year and a half, they have had new staff working there who i presume are cheaper as they seem to lack customer service skills. last time we went was on a Sunday and my partner and i had had our meat and some of our vegetables and were just talking and an eastern European waitress just came over asked if everything was okay and took our plates, we were stunned and we were like what? and she walked off, so on that occasion we did not actually get to finish our dinner but we found it quite funny at the time because it was so rude that is was astonishing but looking back we should have really complained and refused to pay or something.
all in all, a meal for two with 2 alcoholic beverages sets you back around £25 and although i cannot complain much about the food because of the staff and the fact we cannot book tables, we do not go there much.
Poundland - Bedford
18 Harpur Street, Bedford, Bedfordshire MK40 1ZG

i gave this 3/5 stars because you can get a few bargains in here but the customer service is terrible but then again i suppose many of you may be thinking what more can you expect.
this is quite a large poundland and queues are normally quite long. the aisles are overcrowded and the clientele are, as you can expect, in there for a reason so they are generally quite rough, lack manners and are just annoying.
the shop assistants leave a lot to be desired from customer service. They are generally not in a good mood and lack packing ability. last time we went in there we bought some fizzy drinks and the cans were dropped into the bag rather than placed into the bag. there’s a girl in their with frizzy hair Asian looking and a nose ring who actually shouts at you and goes out of her way to be nasty and the manager, lol, looks and acts as if he has stepped out from an episode of little Britain. he throws his weight about, thinks he is the big i am, never has an ironed shirt and is generally rude.
However, going to poundland, what more can you expect? there’s a reason why you can get things in their for a pound which may be £2.50 in other shops and employing staff who are cheap to employ helps to achieve that.
Dragon Restaurant - Bedford

hello, i have somehow ended up in this establishment 6 times over the last 5 years or however long it has been opened.
it serves Chinese food in a buffet style and it has been the same for the last 5 years too. The food is generally inedible by my standards but I think if you are not too concerned about the quality and you want to eat as much as you can then this is the place to go.
The food is produced very cheaply and as a result quality is compromised. It is also very far away from quality Chinese food as most of the stuff is really greasy and bad for you and tastes very bland. The only desert available is jelly and ice cream and it has been like this for ages and I think the lunch buffet is about 8 or 9 pounds per person and I think the dinner is £13/14. the drinks are normal restaurant prices- £3.50 for a beer, around £4 for a glass of wine.
I have only been to this place on my own accord on two occasions. The first was for my 17th birthday with a group of mates and family when it first opened and I did not know what it was like (and my mum recommended it) and the second time was when my bf said he had never tried Chinese food before and that was the only place I knew of where he could try a variety. The other times was because I got invited to it by friends and family and I felt pressured to go, however I would not go again but I think it depends on what sort of person you are and what you are looking for in a meal out i.e. quality or quantity.
Esquires - Bedford
60a Bromham Road, Bedford, Bedfordshire MK40 2QG
25-05-2009
Hi esquires is a live music venue. I have been there a couple of times only to watch my mate’s band play. I firstly just want to get this out of the way: if you want somewhere presentable esquires is not it! It is a tired old building which is in desperate need of renovation and at least a lick of paint! the toilets are like park toilets, horrible disgusting and dirty and generally people go here for a reason- like supporting a friends band or because they are not 18 yet (16 yr olds are allowed in) or because they are not accepted in mainstream pubs/ clubs.
Anyway, so the staff are really friendly laid back and casual and the drinks are quite cheap. They are served in disposable, plastic cups which is probably best as a lot of moshing happens in this place. A lot of drugs happens here too, quite openly in the toilets and the effects are seen by people really randomly running around acting, for want of a better word, strangely.
I think you can tell from this review that it was not my kind of place, but please don’t think that means this is not a nice place. I think it is a really welcoming place and it has a lot of character and history but I would never go there again.
pezza I see its a long time since you made this comment but I would suggest you go again, big changes, refurb in all rooms, great toilets, great beers, new pumps help this. Only plastic glasses in the Main Stage for obvious reasons, glass glasses in Dannys. As for the drug situation, maybe then but not anymore, security is really tight. The bands really do vary, from local to touring up and coming, accoustic and private events, something for everyone. They are really listening to all recommendations and suggestions from staff and customers and putting them into place gradually. A truly great place with real music history.

Oasis Beach Pool - Bedford
Cardington Road, Bedford, Bedfordshire MK42 0BZ
25-05-2009
hi i have been going to oasis since i was 12 and i would say that it is okay. the changing rooms are a little small especially if you cannot get into a family room- i think there are only 4- and you have to change a few small children but the area is generally clean and pleasant enough. the temperature of the water is a bit on the cold side and the whole place is a little on the cold side but that’s okay i suppose, it wont kill you!
they have somewhere to eat and the food is expensive for what it is and barely edible but kids don’t really seem to notice.
they have two slides- a slow one and a fast one very popular with kids and teenagers and they have a 30 minute wave session which is quite fun.
the lifeguards are all young and seem quite friendly.
a family of 4 costs about £20 which is a little expensive for me and my bf to take my two younger siblings especially as the food is quite dear so if it was a little cheaper- maybe under £10, then we would go more often.
Fitness First - Bedford
Aspects Leisure Centre, Newnham Avenue, Bedford, Bedfordshire MK41 9LW
25-05-2009
i joined fitness first in bedford for two weeks and it made up my mind whether to join permanently or not and i chose not to.
it gets incredible busy and there are generally very very few cardio machines free in the evenings- even the really rubbish machines that are not popular in other gyms are being used by people whilst they wait for a treadmill/ cross trainer to become available- but you may find yourself waiting for about 30 minutes on a monday evening.
The weights area is the same and often the bigger men bully the not so built young boys by pushing in to use the benches and weights.
it is also a very unfriendly gym. the men are very, errr, how can i put this, “pervy” they really stare at women as they are working out and you feel quite violated how they run their eyes up and down your body. but please note this is not all men, but the men who generally feel like they own the place. the members also really notice new comers and are often very unwelcoming and you get evils from the women too, but that’s neither here nor there i know, i am just trying to say how the gym is unfriendly and unwelcoming.
all in all the thing which made me not want to sign up was the fact there were too many people and i could not go from one machine to another easily enough and a one hour workout generally turned in a whole evening workout and this was not acceptable
Toni & Guy - Bedford

Hi, this is my most visited hairdressers in Bedford and it is my favourite of all time. The staff are generally really nice and the manager is a very sweet lady. The staff are also normally well groomed with nice hair themselves and I don’t know about other people but I always prefer to have my hair cut from someone who looks like they take pride in their hair. They are normally on time- never had to wait more than about 15 minutes after my appointment time and there is no hard sell techniques used to buy their products as some of the other places are like that. The price is only a few quid above other hairdressers but for a perfect haircut it is better to pay it than go anywhere cheaper.
I have had my hair coloured here once, I wanted some foil highlights and I would not have my hair coloured here again as I left with something I did not ask for and had to pay for it to be corrected elsewhere but I am generally always happy with the hair cuts. There are also plenty of magazines in the reception area and also they always ask if you want a drink and there is a large selection to choose from including wine!
In conclusion I would 100% recommend toni and guy for haircuts but I personally would not go back there for a hair colour.
Sound - Leicester Square
1 Leicester Square, London WC2H 7NA
25-05-2009
I went to sound on 23/5/09 with my bf and it was our first time. It was different to other London nightclubs because we felt generally the atmosphere was more fun rather than tense.
We had booked our tickets in advance and had paid for them and we got treated very well- queue jump and escorted to the lift by the manager who was very nice. The club had adequate security- at least three on each floor and the bouncers seemed like they were doing a good job and were generally well mannered. We liked the way if you are not too drunk then once you are in you are free to leave and come back because your hand is marked with UV. We thought the djs were good and there was plenty of seating.
Now for the bad parts: the drinks were on the pricey side even for London which meant my bf and I spent £40 on just two rounds the cheapest drink was £4.50 for a corona, a single and mixture was just under £7.50 and 2 double vodka and diet coke came to £18. cocktails were around £10 but you got a whole glass full. We also left after only two hours- 1:30am- because it got incredibly warm and the air conditioning was inadequate. It was too warm to dance most of the time and it was very sweaty especially upstairs where it was busy. It also consisted of a lot of foreign tourists, I would say downstairs the split was more like 30/70 british to tourists and upstairs more like 50/50. we find this affected the atmosphere in the sense that club etiquette such as queuing was not obeyed. Also foreign girls are pretty jealous of attractive girls more so than british irls are in the sense that they are very vocal about it and generally spent most of the time slagging attractive girls off in their own language in toilets/ in the queues/ dance floor. I am lucky enough to speak 6 languages so I knew what they were saying lol. This made it seem a little like bullying.
In conclusion I would not go to sound again unless the air conditioning improves and if it does I may reconsider it.
