Stevenson College - Edinburgh

Bankhead Avenue, Edinburgh, Scotland EH11 4DE

01-11-2007 (updated on 10-11-2007)

I have attended this college twice and I think it is a very good college if you are considering places to study. It is on the west side of Edinburgh and is very accessible from all over the city. The staff are very friendly and treat students with respect and always have time to answer any questions you may have. Offiec staff and personnel are always willing to lend a hand aswell. The college cafe boosts a Starbucks and has a great choice of meals at reasonable prices.

The Globe Bar - Edinburgh

13 Niddry Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1LG

06-11-2007

The Globe is built under ground almost and this is reflected in the long archways on the roof of the building,. The layout has all the long arches leading down to the big screens which is pretty cool.
The drink is cheap and it is always full of students and travellers which provides a great atmosphere. the drinks are quite cheap too and you cant leave without having the Aussie Burger crisps!

Menzies Belford Hotel - Edinburgh

69 Belford Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH4 3DW

06-11-2007

I previoisly worked in this hotel but I am not biased! This is a 4 star hotel based at the bottom of Palmerston Place at the West End of town.
Non residents can eat in the Brasserie restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, they also do snacks in the lounge. Attached to the hotel is the Granary Bar which is very popular with the locals, bar food and drinks can be purchased here and are of a great standard.
There is also a piano player every night of the week which is great for a relaxing drink in the lounge.
My only grumble would be that it can be a bit expensive but you do get what you pay for in this case.

cineworld - Edinburgh

Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland EH11 1AX

06-11-2007

I have an unlimited pass for this cinema which is a great bargain if you love film. Its £11.99 a month and you can go to the cinema however many times you like for that each month. The pass also gives money off on popcorn and other cinma treats. It's £6.30 each time you go to the cinema so you are much better off with the pass if you go twice a month or more.

The queues tend to be quite good and the staff friendly and helpful and best of all its clean!

Megabowl - Edinburgh

Unit D Fountain Park, Edinburgh, Scotland EH11 1AW

06-11-2007

I visited here with friends ona night out and thought I would hate it because I was always really bad at bowling when i was younger but we had a great time.
It was about £6 each for a game and we got a good few rounds each. You can have your drinks at the alley with you which was handy and they were not expensive either.
After the bowling (which I dindt win but wasnt last) there was a kareoke on which was great fun and we all had a good laugh.
Bowling rules again!

Agenda Hotel - Edinburgh

92 St Johns Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH12 8AT

06-11-2007

This place is great for a few drinks, the interior is very chic and creates a ncie atmosphere.

Although it is not in the city centre its not far out and if you live in the area its great for a few drinks. Especially in the summer when you can sit outside on the terrace.

Drinks are quite well priced although the white beer is a bit more expensive.

Walkabout Jongleurs - Edinburgh

Unit 6 Omni Leisure Development, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3AA

06-11-2007

This is a great place to visit in a group, especially on a stag or hen weekend!

Jongleurs is great for stand up comdey and they open it for a disco afterwards. The bar goes right down the length of the room and their tends to be lots of staff on so it is easier to get served quickly.

Walkabout is an Australia themed bar which has big screens for showing sport on and ocassionally does kareoke nights which are a great laugh. the drinks are quite cheap too which is always a bonus!

Whistle Binkies - Edinburgh

4 South Bridge, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1LL

06-11-2007

I went here for a night out and fell in love with the place.

It has lovely arched ceilings that really accentuate that you are undergroud, its like being in caves.

The drinks were quite cheap and the place had a great atmosphere where everyone was talking to everyone and getting along together.

The live music was great and that was at an open mic night so imagine how good it can be!

shakespeares - Edinburgh

Lothian Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 2DJ

06-11-2007

I like Shakespeares a lot, its dead handy as a meeting place for after work with some mates. On Monday - Thursday they do 2 for 1 on the food menu which is great for when I meet mates and the food is actually quite nice which always seems to surprise me in pubs!

The staff are generally quite nice and the place has a good atmosphere. They show all major sporting games and have plenty of seating. Also a juke box and games machines aswell.

The toilets are not the nicest though but they are clean enough.

Its a good central place for a drink after work or for a starting point on a night out!

Time for Thai - Edinburgh

45 North Castle Street, Newtown, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 3BG

06-11-2007

I visited here on a worls leaving do and thought it was really good. Having just come back from Thailand and not really enjoyed the food while I was there I was quite surprised. Thai crisps and dips were brought out and drinks too straight away and we didnt wait long on the food which was exquisite. It has a very calming ambiance with nice thai plants and rich colours and all the staff dress traditionally. The only downside to this place I would say is price as when you order your main you have to buy rice etc seperately which made it quite expensive, with a beer and a glass of wine my meal came to about £30 which I thought was a bit steep but a lovely place for a treat.
