Mr Chips - Inverness

Telford Street, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV3 5JZ

17-11-2008

It’s a good chip shop in inverness and has the benefit of being next door to Mr Rice. So the family can choose from Chinese or traditional at it can all be bought in one trip.
The staff in both establishments are friendly and the service is quick.
The food is the usual chip shop fare. The chips are good but not the best in Inverness. The portion of fish is pretty big and it’s all good value for money.

Inshes Dental Clinic - Inverness

3 Cradlehall Court, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV2 5WD

17-11-2008

This is the dentist that was allocated to my son by the NHS dental helpline.
The staff are friendly and professional. They even managed to get a scared two year old to open his mouth so the dentist could have a look. He also loved the sticker that they gave him.
The location is excellent since the car park is just outside and there are shops across the way.
Don’t expect them to remind you that it’s time for a new appointment - that’s up to you nowadays. Be careful if you miss the appointment by too many months they will remove you from the list and you are back to square one trying to find an NHS dentist in Inverness.

knibbd My dentist (also obtained through a helpline) took my mobile number on registration and now send a text message two days before my appointment is due. The also send out a “proper” letter letting me know two weeks before.

Remax Properties Inverness - Inverness

71 Castle Street, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV2 3EA

17-11-2008

These guys also rent out properties in Inverness and the surrounding areas.
I rented a cottage from them about a year ago and couldn’t fault their service.
The girls in the office responded quickly to all my requests and always called back when they said they would. Despite a difficult owner of the property Remax negotiated their way round several tricky issues and resolved them to my satisfaction.
I also got my full deposit back when I left.
I would recommed them without hesitation.

Poundstretcher - Inverness

5 Bridge Street, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV1 1HG

17-11-2008

The only difficulty with this Poundstretcher is it’s location. Situated opposite Primark it is difficult to stop at with a car and therefore it’s difficult to purchase some of their bigger items. They often advertise storage boxes at really cheap prices but then you have to carry them to the car which can be parked quite far away.
The aisles are tight - particularly at the entrance - and it is difficult to move around with a buggy.
The staff are friendly and the prices are cheap so it can be worth the extra effort.

Blackpark Filling Station - Inverness

Clachnaharry Road, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV3 8QH

17-11-2008

Spend over £40 and you get a free car wash.
The only disadvantage to the free car wasch is that the queues at peak time are very long.
You need to be very careful at this garage since cars use both sides as the entrance and exits therefore it can get a bit congested.
The shop is really good for last minute purchases or snack attacks.
The staff are young but friendly and helpful.

A R C Car Wash - Inverness

12-14 Longman Road, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV1 1RY

17-11-2008

This is a great car wash - but I think it’s a bit scary!
The hoover is at the side of the car wash - the first one is not very good (the end bit keeps falling off) but it still does the job.
You then drive up to the car wash and the attendant washes down the car with his power washer.
This is where it gets scary - you drive onto the ramps and turn your engine off. The car then moves by itself! It’s not a nice feeling sitting in the driving seat whilst your car moves!!
It does however leave your car looking shiny, clean and new. It’s more expensive than washing your car at home but if your short of time and want a clean car then this is the place to go.

Primark - Inverness

16-18 Bridge Street, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV2 3EB

17-11-2008

It’s a funny old shop Primark. They pile them high and sell them cheap. I firmly believe in the old adage you get what you pay for - everything I’ve bought in Primark has fallen apart, lost it’s shape or bobbled badly after the first wash.
The childrenswear is upstairs - which means you have to find and take the lift if you’ve got a buggy (it’s right at the back beside the underwear).
They only sell mens slippers at Xmas time!!
I only use Primark if I’m looking for a fancy dress outfit for the kids and need cheap accessories or tshirts.
I also wonder about the ethics behind Primark but that discussion is for another place.

Yorkshire Building Society - Inverness

25 Inglis Street, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV1 1HN

17-11-2008

I checked all the best buy charts and reckoned that this was the best place to open my son’s Child Trust Fund (it’s probably changed now so don’t forget to check).
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The only difficulty is the building itself. To get in you need to go up three or four steep steps - which is pretty difficult if you have a buggy and are on your own. There is a landing at the top and the door is really heavy. The staff will help if they can but they are usually behind the counter and don’t realise you need assistance until you have struggled through the door.
Once inside you realise it’s also pretty tiny and the desk that you sit at to open the account feels like it is in the middle of the bank - people had to push around me and my buggy.
Despite that the wee fella’s trust fund is growing rapidly and soon he’ll be richer than me!!

Holland & Barrett - Inverness

34 Eastgate, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV2 3NA

17-11-2008

Holland & Barrett sell all the health foods that you read about in magazines but never know where to find them.
They have a huge range of alternative medicines, organic produce and healthy snacks.
The staff are very friendly and have extensive knowledge of their products. They can provide advice regarding the appropriate alternative medicine if you have a common ailment.
The shop is easy to access and the aisles are wide enough for a buggy to pass through without any difficulty.
The only negative is that I think the bottles of water are quite expensive.

Fluke Inn - Inverness

Culcabock Road, Inverness, Highlands and Islands IV2 3XQ

16-11-2008

The Fluke is a cracking pub.
They do good food at lunchtimes with lots of specials on the menu and special price deals. It’s pub grub but the portions are hearty and the food is pretty good.
It gets busy at the weekends and can be a bit cheesy with Karaoke or a disco but a few beers soon helps you to let your hair down!
The combination of locals, squaddies & nurses can be explosive but it’s handled well by the staff and the bad guys are quickly moved on.
It’s got a pool table and a darts board in a wee cubby round the back.
