Heathcote Arms - Croft
Hill Street, Leicester, Leicestershire LE9 3EG
19-11-2008
(updated on 23-11-2008)
Outdoor play area for children and easy parking
Restaurant is new and decor pleasant, but . Food is bland and to be frank over priced for what it is
The waitressing staff are very efficient as are the bar staff, although the management are somewhat distant
This pub has potential, and is well located overlooking the village, but I think the direction its going in is inappropriate for a village pub - where whats needed is warmth and friendliness rather than an attempt to compete with the chains on food (at more expense to the customer)
Hobby Horse - Syston
Glebe Way, Leicester, Leicestershire LE7 1BA

Excellent value and wholseome food. Spacious free car park.
This pub which incldues a wacky warehouse for the children really does offer the best of all worlds.
If you are looking for quiet drink, its large enough for a quiet spot to be found. If hungry I recommend the food as hot, fresh and served swiftly and professionally. If its children, the ball park is well presented and clean, and if its a night out with the lads - the sport will be available.
There are a handful of fruit machines for those interested
The best thing about this pub is the location which makes it really easy to reach from the town, or via the a roads, and the size of it - its a big pub catering for all

Huncote Leisure Centre - Huncote
Sportsfield Lane, Leicester, Leicestershire LE9 3BN
20-11-2008
This leisure centre in Huncote can be reached easily from Enderby or straight through Huncote
Free parking available throuhgout. The leisure centre has been renovated and is lookign really good. Its not as large as Enderby or Braunstone and doesnt have a pool - equally it doesnt have the crowds and for a quick game of table tennis, 5 a side football , squash or perhaps a class such as street dancing I would recommend it
Reasonable bar on site, and good quality staff who are very focussed on customers. I recently rang the centre to check for availibility and the lady who answered the phone couldnt do enough for me
I recommend this centre highly.
Birmingham International Airport Limited - Sparkhill
Diamond House, Diamond House Birmingham International Airport, Birmingham, West Midlands B26 3QJ

This is one of the easiest Airports to fly from
. The short term car park fills up really quickly in the morning, and whilst there is always space you are likely to be a long way from the terminal if you arrive after 0715 - 0730. The bus connections aren’t bad - about 15 minutes, and I have found check in for internal flights to be a breeze. Queueing for less than 5 minutes allowing time for a coffee / snack before departing
The airport is really well signposted and the bus stops right outside terminal 1 and collects from the same spot. The standard shops are in place such as WH Smiths and Boots, there are a couple of clothes boutique places but best of all is some excellent places for a bite to eat / a coffee or a beer
The airport is just what it needs to be - STRAIGHTFORWARD!
I would recommend. The airport is well located and can be reached from the M6 with good road connections
Showcase Cinema, Coventry - Coventry
Gielgud Way, Coventry, West Midlands CV2 2SZ
20-11-2008
This is a very large multi screen cinema. The cinema is really wide comfortable although again the chairs sent me into a very deep sleep
Its a tad more pricey than some cinemas at around £6 - £7, but I would say its worth it
Free parking, outside and no issues finding a space.
Nearby there are a variety of restaurants including Nandos and Frankie and benny’s, as well as a bowling alley, tesco, asda, and mcdonalds really close by. Its a good location just off a roundabout in between M69 and M6, and can you be reached from Leicester direction easily as well as from Coventry.
Thorpe Park - Chertsey
Thorpe Park Staines Road, Staines Road, Chertsey, Surrey KT16 8PN

This site may well have the best rides for frill seekers, but I do think its got a real teenage feel to it, and when I went with little un’s and big un’s, there was little they all wanted to do.
I went in the hieght of summer and faced the inevitable crowds, although a downpour cleared much of the park :)
as you walk in you go through an indoor area which ahs a bar, restaurant, gift shops etc etc and beyond this you find a outdoor pool, with manmade beach. When I went the weather wasnt quite good enough for it, but I can imagine on a really hot day, sitting there chilling whilst toddlers splash and do sand castles etc etc
The rides are really good, and the park is nicely condensed so walking is much less of an issue than say Alton Towers where by the end of the day you are frankly - shattered
POarking is free - and near by so this is good too. My best ride is the water rapids which of course is always a great ride for families
Warwick Castle - Warwick
Vine Lane, Warwick, Warwickshire CV34 5BD
20-11-2008
A day out at warwick castle for families in the summer is highly recommended. I have only ever been in summer, and enjoyed very much sitting around picnicing watching the wildlife peacocks prancing around - not been in the winter time
Inside the castle there are various events which kids will love, such as falcon display where a member of staff sends the falcon off and brings him back - swooping around viewers ears, and another event which sees a giant sling throwing huge boulders 100’s of feet
in the castle there is also much to see, and for those who like heights you can climb 00’s of steps for an amazing view of the grounds
Its busy but witht he grounds being so vast its not too bad, and whist toys and gimmicks which kids love are expensive, the restauarant is very reasonable for those who want to eat. Ice cream, coffee, pepsi etc is not to badly priced
One down side, the car parks are a fair walk - perhaps 15 mins from the entrance
Have fun
Legoland - Windsor
Winkfield Road, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 4AY
20-11-2008
Highly recommend a day out to Legoland.
Its not just interesting cities such as Paris or venues such as Wembley made out of Lego BUT also a whole host of rides for all ages.
Unforuntaley the 2 times I have been this year co-incided with school holidays (half term and summer), and you wont be suprised to hear the queues were vast. As with all these parks best to take a tuesday off work and kids out of school and make a day of it - that way you get to relax and go on as many rides as you wish
Legoland is suprisingly hilly. If you are in a wheel chair or struggle with hills be warned its not ideal. Parking easy and just a few yards from the venue
Rides for young ones, older ones and old ones!
Chessington World of Adventure - London
Chessington Park Chessington, London KT9 2NE
20-11-2008
Great theme park for families., Whereas I would say thorpe park has a teenage feel, chessington is arghuably for slightly younger children
The zoo is really good containing tigers, lions, and my favourites the gorilla’s. Sea Life is also in chessington and you can enter free once in the park
Rides are diverse and include a really good 3d haunted house with men jumping out to frighten you (not good for those less than 4). Most of the other rides including the Vampire roller coaster were accessed by my 10 yr old who is of small to medium height. Young ones can be entertained with sit on diggers and various other rides around the park. Cafe Nero and various burger places, KFCs and restaurants can be found regularly as you travel through the park.
The toilets are very clean and the park is really well kept and presented. Parking is totally free and just a few hundred yards away
The NEC Arena - Birmingham International Airport
The NEC Arena, Birmingham, West Midlands B40 1NT
20-11-2008
The NEC is well positioned with good motorway links
I have always found the NEC to be kept well, clean and the events on at the different parts of the venue are always very well signposted.
On the downside is the inevitable parking. It seems you park further and further away from the venue every time you go - As well as being charged around £6 I think for the priveledge you are left facing the dilemma of a fairly long walk across rough ground or a bus journey which isnt great - but hey ho
Apart from the fact I live in the midlands I would choose the Birmingham NEC over other venues just due to the transport issues. Wheras driving into Wembley and parking up is a nightmare - leaving train and tube as preferable option, you can reach the NEC without driving through a large town - or for non drivers there are great train connections - the location is brilliant.
