Cornelius Beer & Wine - Edinburgh

I was here for a qype event, and ended up being pretty impressed by what they had on offer. While nothing in the truly bargain bin range to attract the poorest students, deals on wine were very reasonable, and when asked about specific wines the proprietor definitely knew his stuff, and could speak on almost any bottle in his store.

On taking a bottle home after the tasting, I was expecting something phenomenal which unfortunately did not come. You win some, you lose some, and with the evening we had there, I think most wines will generally be a win here.

The thistly cross ciders we tried were delicious across the board, although certainly higher priced than the main brand ciders, being a small brand, and high quality. They did mention a very interesting bring in your own apples get paid in cider scheme that sounded promising. Anyone fancy scrumping apples round middle class Edinburgh?

I took my mum along on a groupon voucher, and we had a great night.

The waitress was very friendly, and made it clear what things were and weren't included on our deal.

Our bottle of house red was simple, but very drinkable, as expected from a bottle of house wine. Even without the groupon voucher it was worth the money for a bottle while eating out (wouldn't pay it in the supermarket though)

The nachos starter was worth more then the £4 charged for them, as easily a shared starter for 2 (I'd be willing to go back there just for nachos to share)

Our steaks were cooked the way we asked, one medium rare, and one well done- in my experience pubs with steak mainly do rare or burnt, so pretty impressive. My only issue with the food was that the chips were lukewarm, and as a result really didn't taste so good. It wasn't important enough to me to mention to the waitress, so no idea what their complaints service is like, but with the lovely girl who was serving us, I can't imagine there being an issue.

I've already booked my next groupon visit... food tastes so much better when you don't pay full price!

Unfortunately the food wasn't very good, which is a shame, because staff were lovely, they offer a student discount, and it was very quick.

I ordered duck spring rolls and king prawn noodles with Thai chili sauce. The spring rolls contained no duck as far as I could tell, just vegetables, while the noodles were plain noodles, prawns and bean sprouts with the chili sauce dumped on top in the tub, not even mixed through.

After having reviewed this place during previous management last year, I was invited back to try the food again under it's original owner and proprietor.

I had a completely different experience this time, the atmosphere was warm and cosy, the staff friendly, food fresh and tasty and there was an extensive wine list from which we had a very nice bottle of red.

The food is very traditional Italian, although pizza lovers beware, it's not on the menu. The veal parmagiana was excellent, as were the calamari as a starter. I would have loved to try desert, but quite honestly, couldn't fit another bite in!

I will definitely be returning here.

After losing my booking, and therefore refusing to seat my group on a Friday evening, they would do nothing about the fact that their mistake meant I was unable to use my clubcard tokens before they became invalid.

Staff were rude, sloppy, and very unhelpful about the problem. Certainly will not be bothering to visit again.

Great italian food at a reasonable price. They also have a pretty wide wine list, and knowledgable staff on the wine front.

Having been several times, I honestly have nothing bad to say about the place. On the one occasion they mixed up my order staff were quick to apologise and correct the error.

Lovely waiting staff and pretty great food. It was a little on the pricey side for this area, which was our only issue with the restaurant.

Great place, food tasted fresh, everything had an authentic italian feel including the music, which if I’m honest was a little loud for a romantic evening, but I can think of nothing else to say against the place. Quite large portions, so we’ll have to go back sometime to try the deserts!

Buffalo Grill - Edinburgh

this place was pretty good, food was delicious, cheap corkage, reaosnable service. My only complaint was that I was a little miffed when I asked for mayonaise for my chips and was brought sour cream- I know it’s white, but they’re really not the same thing. Very cheap dinner out, and great chicken wings and steak. Defintiely worth a visit, but don’t go with expectations of fine dining.
