Dog fighting took place in two pits in the pub yard (when it was called the New Inn) in the early 19th century, leading to the pub landlord Cox being prosecuted by the last of the Poor Law officials in 1830. This pub is featured on the Fitzrovia Crawl http://www.fitzrovia.org.uk/crawl

Sadly the gallery has shut up shop after being priced out of the premises by the rent hike imposed by landlords the Bedford Estate.

Had a good chat with one of the agents here about the history of the area. Interesting to hear where they feel Fitzrovia ends and Bloomsbury begins. Always a topical point; with the this part of Fitzrovia often being referred to as Bloomsbury. Store Street is situated in what some locals call the "Gower Peninsula". We had a bit of a laugh about the desire by some to rename Bloomsbury, St Giles and Holborn as Midtown. We had a good humoured discussion about this.
