Braidburn Inn - Edinburgh
200 Mayfield Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH9 3BE
31-10-2007
The Edinburgh University King's Buildings have absolutely no decent food places at all... which is atrocious, given that it houses all the science subjects. The Braidburn Inn is the only restaurant within walking distance and is an enjoyable alternative to packed lunch. We tend to bring guests here if they visit our offices.
Good old-fashioned food, but with more variety and display than a typical country pub. I've even seen people eat the liver and enjoy it.
The Royal oak - Edinburgh
1 Infirmary Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1LT
31-10-2007
Open later than most pubs in Edinburgh during the week, but I'd not suggest it if there was an option... tends to be full of old dodgy smelly drunks.
Cloisters Public House - Edinburgh
26 Brougham Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH3 9JH

Smelly bar with no music and a good selection of real ales.
Szechuan House Chinese - Edinburgh
11 Lochrin Terrace, Edinburgh, Scotland EH3 9QJ

Completely average food, but don't expect to get it at the same time as the rest of your table if they are busy. It really is the simplest way to ruin a meal.
Khushi’s - Old Town
9 Victoria street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 2HE

I was part of fi70's group of 6, don't have much more to add, it went down just like that!

Cumberland Bar - Edinburgh

Really out of the way, but a fantastic pub with a good drinks selection and nice big tables. http://cumberlandbar.co.uk/
Peking Restaurant - Cambridge
10 Homerton Street, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire CB2 8NZ
31-10-2007
The Textperts took us (ThinkTank) out when we visited and it blew me away... this is the best Chinese food I've ever eaten.
No MSG in any of the food, fantastic vegetarian options. All the meats are so soft and perfectly cooked.
The Filling Station - Edinburgh
235 High Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1PE
31-10-2007
A bit rubbish really... but I must admit I'd addicted to American BBQ sauce and the Filling Station is one of the only places in Edinburgh that fuels this twisted desire of mine.
The Point Hotel - Edinburgh
34 Bread Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH3 9AF

I've been twice and had a really good meal both times. Good quality and slightly experimental menu manages to fuse Scottish, Chinese, Irish and Thai food into a single starter.
They stock Delheim wine from South Africa... my favourite and the first time I've been able to get hold of it in the UK!
Unfortunately, as it is a hotel restaurant the atmosphere is not that great so I'd find it hard to give more than 4/5.
Fingers Piano Bar - Edinburgh
61 Frederick Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 1LH
31-10-2007
The pianist has mimed the last 3 times I've been (I was dragged along) and they pack people in like sardines. Which would be nice if "everybody" meant 21 year old supermodels, but sadly the typical age group is around that "mid life crisis" zone.
The door staff are the kind that always seem to find a fight to break up at closing time.
Stay away at all costs! Unless you're a fire inspector, in which case you should be there closing them down for good!
