Thai Pod - Edinburgh

20a Leopold Place, London Road, Edinburgh, Scotland EH7 5LB

This restaurant is in a basement and is accessed via some fairly steep external stairs.

Inside it has a nice atmosphere. Service is friendly, and the food here is very good, tasty & nicely presented . The one complaint that there was, was regarding the mixed starter platter which mostly consists of fried items, never popular with the ladies.

I’d definitely recommend it and go back. It does takeaway too.

The Old Clubhouse - Sole Traider - Gullane

We stopped in here for a late Saturday lunch with a todller and baby in our party. They havea nice outdoor space where we might have sat before we had children but we sat inside for food. The interior is quite nice and old worlde pub with a bar and restaurant room next to it. The staff were friendly & helpful.

The food menu is very much a bit of something for everyone, not focusing on any particular cuisine. Portions are generous. Food might be described as functional, and decent. It certainly offers value for money. We did see some shellfish beging served to another table that made us all rather jealous. They have a decent range of beers too.. I would recommend a visit if yiu are in the area..

A great butchers, they also do hot food at lunch time, which includes pies, soup and some other hot dishes... great on a cold day!

Little Chef - Dundee

Kingsway, Dundee, Scotland DD2 4TD

We made the mistake of visiting this branch of Little Chef for breakfast after staying at adjacent Travelodge and if I went back in time I'd grab a sandwich and coffee from the garage instead. Tables were dirty, service was slow, food was very poor, coffee was also rotten.

Give it a miss.

Demarco Roxy Art House - Edinburgh

I visited the basement bar which seems to be open during the week. It took me rioght back to being a student in the late 80s... all black and shoddy with a not wholly pleasant smell. I'm sure that you could have a good night out here though. There is a small venue room downstairs and there is a large old church hall (pretty impressive) and a smallish theatre style room upstairs...

arty/bohemian style i suppose...

Enigma Bar Brasserie - Aberdeen

17 The Academy Belmont Street, Aberdeen, Scotland AB10 1LB

Visited in the run up to Christmas and the staff were helpful enough but if you have kids someone has to eat. The food was OK... not the best selection of beers available (no real ales on tap)...

I can't see why I would go here again as its a pub in small shopping centre, not a destination, although i see some other reviews that mention the outdoor space which would be more pleasant in summer - maybe I'll try again then.

The Dome - New Town

We went here for a birthday dinner on January 9 and they still had their Christmas decorations up and were serving turkey. The decorations are impressive but its a bit weird nonetheless. It's a very impressive building, nicely done out... we were dining in the restaurant area at the very back...

The staff were generally very good and attentive although there was a lull in service around dessert time - they did all troop out and sing happy birthday though - always a nice touch.

The menu is reasonably extensive (I'd say there was something for everyone) and mains range from around £12 up £28, starters £4 upwards so its not cheap. The food was all nicely presented but fairly unremarkable in tersm of flavour. Nothing to complain about but equally so nothing to get excited about either.

Would I go back? Yes, but there are plenty of other places I'd rather go first that offer better value for money.

broughton street delicatessen - Edinburgh

The emphasis is on quality produce here.. I mostly visit for takeaway lunchs and deli bits and pieces although there is a cafe (I believe its been revamped so I may post again my impressions later this week) - I am a regular...

The range of produce is slightly limited (one main meal, and a choice of salads), as well as the rolls, soups and (very) tasty cakes but as i said it is all great...

The Barony Bar - Edinburgh

A traditional style pub that offers real ale, pies, a real coal fire and the like.... its friendly and the beer is decent..its in a listed historic building (read about it on the menus) and is a good choice to stop by and meet friends for a drink... no tvs, no sports although they certainly used to have bands on sunday afternoons that played far too loud.. not sure if this still happens but the next pub is only a gentle stroll up or down the hill if it does....

Gurkha Brigade - Edinburgh

It's a bit tatty but in a quite nice way.. the pictures of the Himalayas are a pleasant disctraction and they have draught Indian lager (Kingfisher I believe)... I went recently after an abscence of a few years (I uesed to live rtound the corner) and although it doesn't look overly special, the food is very tasty here. The menu offers a few variations on the straightforward Indian menu (as it should seeing as its Nepalese) which is also nice to see. I don't think it offers as good value as it used to, but then again I'm probably just getting old - where does?).
