Song Que Cafe - Shoreditch

134b Kingsland Road, Shoreditch, London E2 8DY

The food is great here, delicious authentic Vietnamese food served in portions generous enough to make sure you leave feeling stuffed!
Yes it is VERY busy so you may have to queue and then be prepared to be squeezed onto a table with other customers. All in all a fun if rather hectic dining experience!

Lloyd park is an oasis of green in the heart of walthamstow. A great place for families to relax on the grass, kids to play on the playground and teenagers to enjoy the skate park. There is also the excellent William Morris gallery for a bit of culture

Hoxton Salon - Shoreditch

Had a great time here last night at the Hoxton Salon Qype event! Paula and the staff were all so lovely and friendly and made us feel incredibly welcome.
First I went for a mini manicure where I was treated to a file, hand massage and polish in a rather funky mink colour whilst enjoying a girlie gossip with the lovely beauticians.
Next I went along for a styling session where my normally rather straight and boring hair was transformed into gorgeous voluminous curls in only 10 minutes or so - something I would never have managed to acheive for myself at home!
The hair and nails are still looking fab today - I can't believe how many nice comments and compliments I have had today from my coworkers. I would definately like to come back some time for a cut or maybe try out the waxing that I am hearing so many good things about.
Thanks again to Paula, Sarah and everyone for organising a great evening!

sarahdrinkwater So nice to meet you Gail, hope those mink nails last!

Great little cafe which has just opened up on Hoe Street, surprisingly spacious inside and a good selection of freshly made sandwiches, cakes, crepes and an ice cream counter.

Had some great sushi here last night, a fantastic spicy salmon platter and generous portions of tuna sashimi were the highlights for me! A great location on Poland street to boot, plus a great cocktail menu means I will definitely be returning.

Tucked away down the far end of Walthamstow high street, the Windmill tapas restaurant is something of a hidden gem. Every meal I've had here has been really tasty, and the byo policy helps contribute to the excellent value for money. I would recommend the lamb with rosemary or the clams in spicy sauce !

danrkelly I would argue that the Windmill is at the NEAR end of the High Street as it is a mile closer to central London that the "Village" area of E17. The Windmill is 30 seconds walk from St James Street station which is one stop BEFORE Walthamstow Central if travelling from Liverpool Street or Hackney. Having said that I still don't get down there often enough.

Eat 17 - Walthamstow

28-30 Orford Road, Walthamstow, London E17 9NJ

I went here last friday night. The place was pleasantly full. For starters I had the potted duck, a very generous portion beautifully presented on a slate with delicate toasted brioche and handmade red onion chutney. Main course was chicken breast in wild mushroom sauce, followed by Walthamstow mess for dessert - lovely fresh mixed berries with meringue and cream. The bill came to £27 each for 3 courses plus a bottle of wine. All very tasty - would definately reccomend this place!

L'Hirondelle - Walthamstow

The mouthwatering window display of handmade cakes and patisseries often tempts me on my way home. My favourite is the delicious fruit tart (see photo) with fresh fruit and a sumptious patisserie cream filling. Great for a lunchtime panini too!

Glacier Berthillon - Ile Saint Louis

I went here on Friday, and had the blackcurrant and passion fruit sorbets, and i have to say the were the best i've ever had! Bursting with flavour and perfect on a hot parisian afternoon

Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre Pub - Walthamstow

53, Hoe Street, Walthamstow, London E17 4SA

01-05-2010

The Rose and Crown on Hoe street is probably my favourite pub in Walthamstow. The new owners have put a lot of effort in to refurbish and rebrand the place as a theatre-pub. Tucked away up a tight staircase is a room above the main bar, which they can use for live music, plays or art exhibitions. We went last year to see the excellent musical 'Nine' by All Star Productions. They also have a monthly open mic stand up comedy night called 'Glee 17' which is surprisingly good although some of the performers look absolutely terrified and I can't help but feel sorry for them.
So last night there was a new play showing, 'Benchmarks' by Whats In a Name Productions. We went along with our new neighbours to check it out. The room was packed so we could only get standing tickets at the back which was a slight pain, but I was delighted to see the pub doing so well and hope that it will convince them to keep putting on shows like this and supporting local small theatre companies. The play itself centred around a park bench paced in centre stage, and told the story of six people whose lives unfolded in front of us as they met around this bench during the course of a day. We had the park keeper worried about keeping his job, a jogger trying to set up her own bistro, a middle aged lady whose marriage was falling apart, a teenage mum, a bag lady and the property developer wondering if he should buy the park to build on. I think the cast did a great job of keeping everyone engaged and I hope they will be back with another show soon!
