Pure Food and Wine - New York
Irving place 54, 10003 New York

Ok….having wanted to try this place for some time, we finally went. We sat out back in the garden which was very nice and the restaurant was very full. The service was ok, but they did forget to bring our wine until the middle of the meal. We also tried 2 of the martinis, but they were too sweet for us. Appetizers were the ceviche and the ravioli. Ceviche was ok but the other was just not doing it for us since it tasted similar to nut paste. Main courses were the tamale and the lasagna. The lasagna was interesting as it had some texture, but the tamale was like eating corn mush. Dessert we had the mousse and the carrot cake. Neither were impressive. Since my boyfriend and I are pretty big foodies, we are glad we tried this, but were craving a nice big burger right after the meal. Not a place we will be returning to.

I can’t really say too much about this place. I was struck by how bland the food was. The truth is that I didn’t find much that was unique about it. This was the kind of place where you go to once and quickly forget about.
Kagurazaka so why did you give it four stars? sounds like it is worth one at the most.

hoebe’s is the perfect neighboorhood cafe redone; a calm, relaxing atmosphere with delicious food, the neighboorhood faces, and good values. Best of all, the food is all very good for you, without losing any of the flavor. It took me 3 or 4 visits to realize that the menu is completely California vegetarian (fish, no meat), without missing anything. Highly recommend the hummus platter, brie and apple sandwich, waffles with banana and walnuts and tuna “sammy.” Service can be a little slow, but the wait staff prepares the food, and I’ll gladly wait a few extra minutes.

Yes it’s enexpensive, but that doesn’t mean it’s a great deal. I have given this place a few chances and while I don’t care about the service (the place has less to it than a Diner) my problem is the food is really bland and generic. Aside from the great carrot dressing everyone talks about, nothing is too good. To get a plate of Yakisoba is going to cost you at least ten bucks after tax and tip and it is no better than lo mein from any corner chinese spot. The fries are tasty but what shoe string fires aren’t? The burger is a thin frozen patty cooked to death.

Delicious vegan food, all freshly made. Brunch is amazing. Avo Bravo Sandwich & Montana Salad, divine. Delectable homemade vegan desserts & fresh juices. Zen atmosphere courtesy of yoga studio. RUN, don’t walk.

I have been to this restaurant several times and it is because the food is as authentic as it can get in NYC. Unless of course you travel to India. My family is into Punjabi food and they always insist on take out from Desi Junction. We traveled from Queens for this!
Kate's Joint - New York

Kate’s was always a go-to place: great variety, big menu, tasty vegan food, laid back vibe a great brunch place. Our visit there is a testament that this time has passed. went in to some curse-laden music, and the food was not great. Instead of their usual huge quirky menu, I was handed a one page list of brunch choices, and nothing that we had was that appetizing.

I suppose if you’re a vegan with the “munchies” in the middle of the night then this is your best option. Aside from the greasy transfatty food, the service is poor and the cashiers have no personality. I’d advise to stay home and cook yourself a nutritional meal. Save yourself the walk and money. Also, if you dine-in there is no bathroom. Two Thumbs Down

Once upon a time, when I lived in the city, we used to eat here every Tuesday. Not by my choice at the time all I wanted to eat was Mexican (eh, tex-mex, really). Also, I’m not a vegetarian, and really not vegan, so I was always like 'what’s a tempeh?’ Because of that I got the special a lot and mostly let others around me choose my entire meal. And, yes, at the worst, it was sometimes bland. But it was often excellent (and then I’d be like 'what’s a croquet? isn’t that a game we played at Dean and Mary’s?’) Now that I live in the yicky not-city I really miss being able to go out to eat and not feel disgusting afterward. In the rest of the country, you know, it’s all Red Lobster and the Olive Garden which is all just a pile of hydrogenated oils. Which, yes, you do get enough of to take home.

For all those lamenting the loss of WiFi at 'sNice, you will be happy to know that WiFi is back. I have eaten at the restaurant, gotten take out and ordered delivery often, and all experiences have been excellent. My favs on the menu: (soy) chicken pot pie wrap, curried cauliflower wrap, quinoa salad and thai salad. Their daily specials are also great (roasted broccoli is to die for!) Even if you are not vegan (I certainly am not) this is a great place for a light, tasty meal when you want to be kind to your body. Last but not last, don’t forget to get a vegan cupcake for the road. Yummm
