Meghna Grill Indian Cuisine - St. Johns Wood

113 Boundary Road, London NW8 0RG

27-11-2011

I was surprised about how good the food was there. For St John’s Wood, the prices are really low and still the quality was superb. A little restaurant with a nice atmosphere and really good Indian food.

So if you’re looking for Indian food in St John’s Wood, this is the place to go! :)

LV Lounge - Maida Vale

4 Clarendon Terrace, Maida Vale, London W9 1BZ

27-11-2011

I live just around the corner, so I wanted to take a look at this little place. Unfortunately, LV Lounge closes at 23:00, so if you’re going out for dinner outside Maida Vale, it’s very likely that when you return home, this place will be closed. I think that’s a pity, because it could perhaps be a nice place for a last stop on the way home. Anyway, one day when I was in the right mood, I actually was back in the area before it closed, so I gave it a chance.

It was kind of a weird experience. Besides me, there were four or five other people, most of them much older than me, and it seemed like they’re all regulars there. It was not really a welcoming atmosphere, I didn’t like the music too much, and I left soon after I finished my relatively expensive drink.

I hoped for a nice bar nearby, but it looks like I have to keep searching for this place for now…I guess LV Lounge is a nice place if you go there with friends. But I won’t go there alone again.

Saddlers Grill Room - Mayfair

33 North Audley Street, Mayfair, London W1K 6ZQ

27-11-2011

I did not plan to go there, but I ended up there. And it was great! Saddler’s is a very nice and modern restaurant in Mayfair. I liked that it was kind of light. While I waited for my food, it was convenient to read – that’s not the case in all restaurants.

I had a very good fillet steak with a delicious wine. Also the dessert tasted excellent. Saddler’s is a restaurant I can recommend without any doubts!

Massis Lebanese Grill & Bar - Paddington

9 Sheldon Square, Paddington Central, Paddington, London W2 6HY

27-11-2011

When I arrived at the restaurant, some nice music was playing. Not the kind of music you expect at a Lebanese restaurant, but just nice piano music or something. I was really looking forward to enjoy a relaxed dinner with nice music. Unfortunately, the music changed soon and then I was tortured with the typical middle-eastern style music. It’s just my personal taste, but I simply do not like this genre. So this was the first disappointment.

I ordered food and a wine. The starters were okay, they were not excellent, but fine. The wine was far from great. the second disappointment. Unfortunately the main was not much better. The third disappointment.

After all, I think there are much better places around…

The Waterway - Little Venice

54 Formosa Street, Maida Vale, London W9 2JU

27-11-2011

When I moved to Maida Vale this summer, I went to The Waterway on my second day. It is a very nice and good restaurant, normally worth 4 stars, but it is simply a bit too expensive for what you get. I had a delicious wine and a good burger – but compared to other pubs/gastropubs nearby in St John’s Wood, the price is just a bit too high. For the price I paid, I expected a bit more.

I did not yet manage to go there on a Thursday when they have live music. This is something, not many restaurants in the area can offer, so it might be worth going there on a Thursday.

Smith's Bar & Grill - Paddington

25 Sheldon Square, London W2 6EY

27-11-2011

Living near Little Venice, I wanted to go to Smith’s for some time. Unfortunately, it was always closed, or at least the kitchen was closed, when I went there. But last week I tried again and finally – the kitchen was still open when I showed up! :)

The restaurant is light and clean, has a nice interior, also with some sofas if you are more in a lounge mood.

I had a really tasty burger with delicious fries and a very good cheesecake. Strawberry cheesecake feels wrong in November, but anyway – it tasted good!

Workshop Coffee Co - Clerkenwell

27 Clerkenwell Road, London EC1M 5RN

27-11-2011

Today I went to St Ali to take a look and try their coffee. Basically, everything is nice and looks good and clean, but for some reason, I just did not really feel too comfortable there. You come in, and then the first thing happens: you get asked if you want to eat or not, then you will be seated and get the menu. This is just more restaurant-like than cafe-like. I guess this is, what irritated me a bit.

It was great, I got water without I needed to ask for it, the cappuccino tasted delicious and the (dark?!) chocolate muffin was also very good.

So St Ali is for sure one of the better places to have a coffee in London, but still it won’t become my favourite place.

Ponti's Italian Kitchen - Mayfair

54 Duke Street, Mayfair, London W1K 6JX

14-11-2011

I was surprised, but when I was there, because I had one of the best pizzas ever! It looks like a random chain or something similar, but it actually is a very nice Italian restaurant and the food is not at all chainy. The styling and atmosphere etc. could perhaps be improved, the food not so much.

I am not a big friend of cherry tomatoes, but these marinated cherry tomatoes perhaps made the difference?! I don’t know, but I don’t need to know. What I know is, that the pizza was very tasty and I am sure that I will come back! :)

Gourmet Burger Kitchen - Fulham

49 Fulham Broadway, London SW6 1AE

14-11-2011

You can’t do much wrong when going to GBK. No matter if you go for a beef or a chicken burger, or something else from the menu, it’s always very delicious and the staff is really friendly. GBK is for sure one of the best burger chains in London.

Working in Fulham, we sometimes go there for lunch, and from time to time I also go there for dinner. It’s a nice little branch and delivers the quality you expect from GBK.

Café Rouge - Maida Vale

30 Clifton Road, Maida Vale, London W9 1ST

14-11-2011

I am not the biggest fan of chains, so I usually prefer other places. Anyway, sometimes a place like Café Rouge is just the easiest and most convenient option.

I am living locally and went there for breakfast at a weekend. It was not too busy, the food arrived not too fast, but it was really okay. It was not the best breakfast I’ve ever had, but it was delicious enough to please me on that day.

I also got a voucher to get 40% off the next food bill. Unfortunately, it was valid just a week, and well, I usually don’t go to places only because I got a stupid voucher…so this actually made the experience a bit worse. Vouchers are a good idea, but you should give people some time to use them. Otherwise it’s just useless.

Still, Café Rouge is not the worst place to have a breakfast!
