Hello. Let me tell you about a nice litte pub named the Twa Tams.

Warmly decorated with classic rock and folk lyrics etched into the wood of the walls. There is a very convenient beer garden out back for summer nights. This seems to be the place that aging rockers go to die…

Bands play most weekends. They are of varying quality but expect a lot of cover bands blasting out mainsteam pop hits and classic tunes your dad loves to sing.

If this sounds like a boring night out to you, open your damn mind. I haven’t had a bad experience in Twa Tams yet, and it’s excellent for being with friends in the beer garden, nursing a beer and having a laugh.

Formerly my favourite pub in Perth, it has since lost some of its appeal, for me anyway.

It is hidden away in a lane and is not known by many people, which means it can be quieter than most pubs. The decor is very nice, with rock music playing contiuously and very interesting clientelle, from goths to emos and back. But it never feels like you aren’t welcome like it sometimes feels in “alternative” pubs. In fact, it is normally one of the most relaxed pubs I have ever been to.

The seating is nice, with benches and leather sofas to sit on, and they have regular quiz nights and deals. Thursday night is especially good, you get 4 drinks for £5, or you did last time I checked.

While I used to love Donskies a lot more, the new staff has since become a bit uptight, and some of the quiet mystery has gone, as it has become very crowded on some nights. However, if you want a pleasant drink in a great, friendly environment, go to Donskies.

For the quiet alone, I love Waterstones.

The prices may be extortionate - full RRP for a book I can get off Amazon for £3 - with no good deals or serious competition with the Internet as far as I can see, but when you want a quiet moment, there’s nothing better than walking through Waterstones.

I haven’t used the pool af the Leisure Pool since I was about 13, when you’d go on a Saturday night to pull girls at “disco night”, but I now use it near daily as a gym.

I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of equipment, and it is usually very quiet. The people who go there leave you alone to work out, so you don’t get the snobby feeling of many gyms (Rodney Gardens, i’m looking at you!).

If you like your gyms simple and quiet, then go to the Leisure Pool. The only drawback is the lacklustre changing room but you can simply use the more spacious and private pool changing rooms. No one seems to mind

Oh, and it’s a nice shop too.

Neighbour to the local cinema, you find many people huddled in here at all hours, especially if there’s a big game on. The huge crowds do ruin a very well laid outpub. Great choice of drinks and staff, and a unique way to get to the toilets (I challenge someone new to the pub to find the toilet without help), I highly recommend the Foundry if you want to miss those boring ads before your next movie starts.

I’ve had some great nights at Muckys. Great decoration, decent prices and usually great people, there’s also regular acts playing in the backroom, with free access if something perks your ears up.

If you want to dance to some folk classics and generally have a good laugh, head to Muckys. The only downside; they host birthday parties and other events, which can ruin your night if you happen to come in while one is happening

Seen a few local bands here. At the front is the typical pub, popualated by football thugs. However, the backroom is now used as a stage. The barman seems to run from the front and back bars, serving customers, which is funny to watch.

Very underwhelming atmosphere, bland decor and overpriced drinks but they don’t seem to mind you bringing in drink from the outside, which means you can run to Tesco and back. Great if you’re in company of friends or a good band but anywhere is alright when you have those.

Top class venue. It’s perfect for a few drinks and perfect as a venue. I have seen two bands here and both times, the atmosphere has been electric. I do feel the easy access to the downstairs pub makes it easy for people to shun support acts but choice is better.

Also, do not bother with the dukebox as people seem to pay for an entire day on there. You will pay to hear a song and will have no chance of hearing it.
