The food here is amazing! There isn’t an enormous choice, but what they have is so delicious that it doesn’t matter.

First time I went at lunchtime I had a ham and cheese sandwich, but all the ingredients were so fresh and of such good quality that it was the nicest ham and cheese sandwich I’ve ever had.

The second time I went in the evening and my husband and I shared the selection of stuff (can’t remember the official name), which was a wooden board with different meats and cheeses. Again, delicious.

The only bad points related to our second visit when we were slightly overcharged, the service was very slow, and (probaby because of its location) it was full of v loud, posh people.

They seem to have a very good wine selection and the attached deli looked very tempting, I hope to return when I’m next in London.

I stayed here recently after arriving at Stansted on an evening flight.

It was very easy to get to and, like another reviewer, I was amazed at how quiet the rooms are. I got a very good night’s sleep and found the bed very comfortable.

The rooms are decorated in three different styles (I think) and we got a Chili style room. The facilities are as expected - television, mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities (although no biscuits!), complimentary toiletries etc.

We ate in the Italian restaurant and the food was delicious, but quite expensive. From the website, I thought it was possible to eat at the bar and chose from a selection of dishes from all the hotel restaurants, but I was told by the bar staff that they didn’t serve food.

The restaurants are a New York Grill, which looked lovely, but had practically no vegetarian options; the Italian place that we went to; and a Spanish Tapas restaurant.

The bar with the wine tower is a great focal point and we enjoyed watching the people doing acrobatics in the tower, spinning around on ropes collecting bottles etc.

I would stay here again if I was looking for airport accommodation and I could find a good offer.

  • Jalsa Ghar - Dunmow

    Jalsa Ghar

1pxt grassgreen last updated on 08-03-2009:

Located in a thatched pub, Jalsa Ghar serves very nice indian food at reasonable prices. I ordered a chicken korma as I wanted something v mild, and it was very tasty, however, I wish I’d gone for one of the shashlik options as that wasn’t too spicy either, but was more exciting than my choice. The portions are very big - we probably should have ordered 2 between 3 as a lot of food was left.

We had a few problems with the booking (more people than expected turned up etc.), but the manager was very accommodating and pleasant.

I would definitely go back here if I was in the area again.

A large party of us went to this pub/restaurant recently. It was a bit cramped in the bar area, but the attached Indian restaurant was very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. I didn’t buy any drinks so can’t comment on the prices. I’d go back if I was in the area again.

    Harwood Guesthouse

1pxt grassgreen last updated on 08-03-2009:

A large party of us recently stayed here before a wedding. The owners Ian and Helen are really friendly and welcoming - they were very flexible about check in times and were happy to recommend hairdressers and places to eat etc. Ian is also a licensed taxi driver.

The guesthouse is quite easy to find and in a convenient location close to Dunmow High Street. There is a pub with a good Indian restaurant just opposite.

The upstairs rooms are a bit more modern with nicer decor and better showers, but they are all very comfortable. There’s also a lounge for the guests to use.

I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area, or if I needed to stay close to Stansted before a flight etc.
