Tucan's Rodizio-Restaurant - Unterbilk

Hammerstrasse 17, Medienhafen, 40219 Düsseldorf

31-08-2008

This new restaurant in the Düsseldorf Medienhafen is a must. The concept is “all you can eat” for a very reasonable price. The feast starts with a self-serve salad bar offering fresh vegetables, grilled vegetables, fish, soup and much more. After enjoying the salad bar, the “meat carvers (servers)” come around with a wide variety of different meats that have been grilled slowly over an open flame. The “Brazilian style” prepared meat is then literally carved off of a gigantic skewer onto your plate - all before your own eyes. You can even request the crustier or less crusty parts of the meat. The meat carvers continue to serve you a variety of delicious meats until you decide you want to stop. You can also take breaks between meat servings. Between and during the the meat servings, a variety of side dishes including french fries, grilled vegetables, potatoes and other tasty side dishes are also served. One should save a bit of room for the savoury grilled pineapple at the very end.

The service is very friendly and very helpful in explaining how the concept works at this restaurant.

Don’t forget to try out the delicious cocktails - the strawberry margarita is highly recommended! The entire meal can be enjoyed over the course of several hours and works particularly great with larger groups looking to celebrate!

Hoa Mai - Nordend

Since we’ve discovered this Vietnam-Thai restaurant, we haven’t been able to resist going back on a weekly basis. Overall, the food is excellent, the service very friendly and the atmosphere pleasant. To top it off, the prices are reasonable. The non-alcoholic drink made out of fresh limes or a tall glass of ice-cold beer or a nice glass of white wine is a great way to start off the dining experience. The food is always fresh and many of their dishes are apparently homemade. One could make a meal out of the delicious homemade appetizers such as the Vietnamese spring rolls, the Vietnamese salad rolls, the Thai style jumbo prawns served with sweet and sour sauce, or the tasty Thai soup. The squid salad is also highly recommended for those who like squid. For the main course, the Vietnamese grill speciality cannot be resisted. This dish can be ordered with beef, pork, prawns or fish and is served with rice paper, rice noodles, vegetables and fresh herbs. The different ingredients can be rolled in any combination into the rice paper and then dipped into a delicious sauce. When I say that it cannot be resisted, I mean it literally. The dish is so tasty, that I have not been able to get myself to try out any of the other main courses! The desserts also look quite tasty but I have not been able to save enough room for dessert due to the generous sized portions.

For further food recommendations or questions about the menu, ask the friendly service. They are always more than happy to assist.

For those who prefer to indulge in tasty food at home, the restaurant does offer take-away food with a generous discount if you pick up your own food.
