Eight Bells - Bures

Colchester Road, Bures, Essex CO8 5AE

Super pub. One of the now rare proper local pubs, not all commercialised. Good food, good value. Highly recommended.

The Rockingham Arms - Elephant and Castle

119 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BN

Not a bad little place. Very conveniently placed near E&C tube station. Definitely lacks atmosphere though – a rather bland building, and no proper pub atmosphere, though I guess the fact I was there on a Monday night didn’t help. Food was served promptly, good food, though being wetherspoon’s it’s much the same. Overall not the nicest of places, but cheap, does the job, and good food.

The Cricketers - Ipswich

Nice place. Wetherspoons pub so of course it’s all the same menus etc, but it’s pretty cheap and has a nice atmosphere – it feels like a proper pub which is something you don’t get with all wetherspoons. The interior is nice too, and the walls are decorated with historical photos and info of Ipswich. Quite authentic. Service generally good, have to wait a little while to be seen to though. Beer garden a superb feature, but if it’s a sunny day be sure to ask for an ETA. My food’s taken almost 40 minutes on a sunny day where it would normally take 2-5. Just shows how the sun brings everyone out. Overall a nice little place which doesn’t feel so much like a chain pub – a good choice.

Moshi Moshi Sushi - City of London

A nice place, quite authentic, though a little expensive but that’s less of a surprise when you compare it to other places in the area.

Food great, staff pleasant, I went for the sushi bar with conveyor belts – was not disappointed.

Cafe Jaqui - Sudbury

52a North Street, Sudbury, Suffolk CO10 1RD

Lovely place, great prices, really good food. Nice large portions – it’s rare that I can go somewhere and say the “small” breakfast is the largest I can eat! Friendly service and generally a great place to stop by.

Fatboys Diner - Canning Town

64 Orchard Place, Trinity Buoy Wharf, London E14 0JW

Lovely little place. Don’t let the slightly shabby look put you off, it’s all in the character and the food is brilliant. Great burgers and milkshakes, definitely a real gem, though a little out the way.

Lotus Chinese Floating Restaurant - Leyton

Recommended by a friend or two, certainly didn’t disappoint. The food was really nice, I had a quarter duck. Lots of comments about the service here but I found it to be more than satisfactory. Especially an older plump woman who was very warm and welcoming. It’s a shame duck isn’t in the £11 luncheon menu, but it’s certainly worth paying for, and I’d recommend it even if you’re not in docklands, it’s worth a tube/dlr journey to get to.
