Carylls Country House - Faygate
Faygate Lane, Faygate, Horsham, West Sussex RH12 4SN

the place is a dump dont stay here
iamnotveryhappy To elaborate, the rooms are not as described, they demand more money than advertised, place is poorly run and not worth nearly as much as they charge and no where near Gatwick (unless you have a car).

Doubletree by Hilton Milton Keynes - Milton Keynes
Stadium Way West, Milton Keynes MK1 1ST

Quite possibly the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at! Huge, modern rooms that more resemble suites! If you are a football fan expect to be impressed with your own private balcony view of the pitch! All rooms have a mini-bar, although you have to ask for it to be stocked. Food was excellent and breakfast even more so amazing. The best part of the whole visit, was having a warm double chocolate chip cookie shoved in my hand by the receptionist at check in!
Downsides is it can be pricey when you go direct to Hilton, however check out some of the booking sites like LateRooms or Lastminute to get the best deals. I paid £70 for a night in a pitch side room. Expect the prices to rocket wherever you buy from on match days!
Yotel - Crawley
Yotel, Gatwick South Terminal, Gatwick, Crawley, West Sussex RH6 0NP

An excellent concept, you rarely fly and so in panicing about missing the flight, you arrive at the airport at 3am for a 9am flight, tired and unrefreshed.
The solution, a hotel, within the South Terminal itself, that you pay for by the hour!
Okay so it’s not quite a hotel, it’s more of a sleeping pod, with a shower, toilet, enclosed bed, table (that folds up and out of the wall) and several power points to get that laptop charged at last minute before the flight. The rooms are just astonishing. It’s like stepping on to the set of Star Wars.
The ambient lighting gives a soft purple, green and red glow. The shower is powerful enough wash all the stress of being at the airport away and the bed is the best part. Comfortable, homely and warm. It has a television with internet access built into the wall opposite to you.
It’s difficult to find fault in this one, seeing as it does exactly what it’s designed to do.
Now here’s the down side.. People book these rooms in advance, which means when you usually turn up at the place, they say “sorry we’re booked, but come back in an hour”. That hour turns in to 2 hours, then 3 hours, then 4 hours until eventually you end up more stressed than before!
Book the rooms in advance and you will not be dissapointed.
Expect to be woken up on Thursday morning’s by the fire alarm tests!
Cliff Hotel - Penzance

Firstly, they need to remove any references to “Hotel”. This is a straight up B&B, and an overpriced one at that. If you are looking for a tad more “personal” service, then this is the hotel for you. The owners treat you as if you were a friend, albeit a very messy friend seeing as they insist on going over a few “house rules” before they let you check in.
The standard of the room was well below what is expected, although all the facilities are there. The window was jammed open (just about half an inch), enough to let the cold of the night in!
The breakfast was impressive although my only complaint is when you ask for no eggs, the owner insists on giving you eggs. In fact I was quoted “I have to, we don’t discount the breakfast if you want items removed”. It’s not a discount I’m after, I just hate eggs!
Location is a plus point, the view from the dining room is certainly a rare one, and it’s within walking distance of the station and the town itself.
Harben House - Newport Pagnell
Severn Drive, Newport Pagnell MK16 9EY

Firstly all the pictures show the exterior of a modern office block looking hotel. Ignore that. That is the confrence centre which is bolted on to the old Posthouse Forte building around back.
ROOMS ARE SMALL – BE PREPARED
Ask for one of the new open plan rooms straight away!!! The old rooms are falling apart and quite dangerous if you ask me. Exposed cables were everywhere in my room from the broken towel rail to the kettle!
The newer rooms are nice although the shower floods out the bathroom every time and if you are sharing, hope you dont mind seeing eachother naked becasue there is no wall between the bathroom and the bedroom – it’s all open plan!
This is quite simply put, a business hostel designed for Yellow Pages sales rep’s to host their annual confrence. Oh and dont call it a hotel – the staff get very upset and say “it’s not a hotel it’s a venue!”…
The staff were acting very unprofessional and silly on reception (messing around and acting like children). Staff generally dont seem to have any uniform so it’s difficult to tell who works there and who doesnt!
Internet cafe dished out free drinks including soft drinks and a high speed internet on four new Apple computers. Difficult to find though!
The food is excellent albeit the portion sizes way too small. Room Service prices are typically about 50p more per meal than the restaurant prices (quite impressive).
But what made up for my stay was the fact that the winter rate was only £19 per night (room only). So for that price, you get an iron and ironing board, trouser press in some rooms, new hairdryer, tea facilities, soaps and generally a comfortable bed. I cannot complain about value for money on this one as it’s difficult to find even a Travelodge at that price!

Spent a week staying at this hotel over Christmas, overall I can say I have no complaints.
The room felt a bit smaller than most hotel rooms although there was still enough space to move around and even fit in a nice leather sofa!
Breakfast was dissapointingly cold and the staff were eager to finish it bang on 11am (i.e. pulling the shutters over the breakfast facilities). Felt a bit cheated for the £10 I paid for it.
The bar was excellent although a bit difficult to find anyone to serve you at times (but in all fairness it was Christmas!).
Overall if you are looking for a reasonably priced central Milton Keynes hotel in the heart of some of the trendiest bars and restaurants, this hotel is the one for you.
One plus point this hotel has over the nearby Jury’s Inn is that it has it’s own car park!
Novotel Milton Keynes - Milton Keynes
Layburn Court, Saxon Street, Heelands, Milton Keynes MK13 7RA
15-01-2012
I usually steer clear of Novotel’s but I have to admit I had egg on my face during this stay. The hotel is modern, well designed (albeit it a bit european in decor), the rooms are chocked full of storage space and even a really technological safe for you to play with! Large LCD TV crammed full of channels and I think they have free WIFI in all rooms (but I’m not sure as I didn’t use it).
Paid only £40 for the room (winter rate), in a nutshell… well worth it!
Jurys Inn - Milton Keynes
Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes MK9 3HP
15-01-2012
Stayed there about 70 nights in the last 12 months on business and never had any complaints. Attracts a lot of clubbers at weekends so can get a bit noisy in the corridors, especially the smoking floor (3rd floor!).
Breakfast no complaints apart from the fact the staff never seem to have me down on b&b rate, so they ask to charge it to my room then have to check with reception when I say it’s inclusive.
Dont bother upgrading to a superior room, usually around £20 extra for a few packs of biscuits, bottled water and an iron. Not worth the money I’m afraid.
Staff very helpful and receptive to feedback and the bar staff define customer service, although drinks a bit pricey!
If you are eating I suggest you try the Jury’s New Yorker burger – tasty!
I suggest asking for a front facing room or east facing room on the top floor for a great city view, especially at night!
Glostrup Park Hotel - Glostrup
Hovedvejen 41, DK-2600 Glostrup
15-01-2012
Stayed there in October 2011 on a one night business stopover. Really impressed to find a genuinely nice hotel. Check in was fast, the staff spoke perfect English, the bar was small but homely and the room was very clean, contemporary and tidy.
But forget everything else, the best part of my stay was the amazing breakfast buffet! Never before have I tasted such a delicious spread of mini-frankfurter like sausages, danish bacon and of course danish pastry. Maybe this breakfast is not unique to the hotel, but it’ll certainly be the highlight of my trip.
Highly reccommend this hotel for anyone on business or leisure. Not as close to the airport as the advertising makes out though (about 30 minute drive).
