You know that torrid story about the bird behind the bar you really shouldn't tell anyone, but do, after several pints and a banter? Well this very pub has one very such story that I could be persuaded to recount to one lucky Qyper over a beverage, but just couldn't put it down on virtual paper, it's too damn RUDE!
The crazy cats and I pitched up at this very smart, full of character pub on a blissful Sunday summer's afternoon. However, I spent the vast majority of my time chinwagging in the bogs. I can hereby testify that crouching down in a cubicle (foetal position) is not comfortable. At all. Otherwise a lovely boozer, great for people watching in this wonderful strip of Islington.

I had a ridiculously large appetite on Sunday at approximately 5.45pm for reasons I won't go into (clue: not preggers), thus had an insurmountable desire to eat cake! Let's face it, what Brit doesn't love a bit of cake? I do. So off I trundled with my buddies to pick up an order, my friend specifically requesting a cake WITH cream, chocolate or something tasty.
So, what did we get her? Something WITHOUT cream, chocolate and instead opted for the 'moist' (not really moist) carrot cake. She scoffed it down unsatisfied, however I had no such complaints as my tongue slipped into an oral state of euphoria with a moist, rich slice of tiramisu. Yum, diddly, yum yum, euphorium is just that.

So I've classified this place as a sporting location for Qi Gong devotees, as I rather cheekily impersonated a man just minding his own business doing it in the green so to speak. You know, I love this random patch of green lining Upper Street and Essex Road. I cannot really expand on this story massively, it's just a wonderful little corner to let yourself go and contort your body to fit the giant 'O' (see photographic evidence!) Ahem.

Chakalaka pow! The crew and I had one core objective upon entering this restaurant, a good wholesome burger and a spot in the sun. So we were rewarded with the chakalaka burger, which excited my South African friend immeasurably! The pear cider went down a treat as we reminisced about love, life and everything in between. The food itself was filling without being spectacular, the beer garden 'suntific' but on a rainy day I'd venture elsewhere. Nevertheless Upper Street will always hold a special place in my heart.

Low on cost, high on NRG as those lovely folks at Windows 7 Mobile hosted an interactive event where we were invited to sample their new fangled phone, while gorging on hoisin duck pancakes, snaffling mojitos and belting out glam rock classics. Possibly the best Wednesday I've had on a working week, I very quickly ditched my ahem modesty to embark on a musical escapade from David Bowie to Gaga.
Donning a blonde Bon Jovi-esque wig we ran through a demanding repertoire in booth 1, the boys duetting rhythmically with the girls, harmoniously in the first 20 minutes before it all got rather rowdy and the 'uncle at a wedding' dance moves busted out their seams. Phenomenal event, met some awesome people and got a taste of the mobile revolution, yeeha!

I must echo fellow Qypers in saying it is rather odd there are not more gay bars in the area, considering the well-known queerness of N1. And so we come to the Green, an embodiment really of everything a gay bar is perceived to be. It is not all bad per se, but suitably cheesy and multi-coloured to have been better positioned on Old Compton rather than Upper Street. However, this is one of my top date places after a tasty local meal, sh*t another trade secret out! If you see me looking all hushed and deep in conversation do not approach :-) Unless you are buying me one of their excellent mojitos.

Immaculately presented, and open just late enough to spare my blushes at a good friend's 30th while collecting some vintage champagne. The assortment of 25ml sampling machines are pure genius, an inspired local community shop. The list of reasons to move to N1 is endless, here is just another liquidated reminder.

I just liked the name of this, so I popped in for a chat. Here’s a history lesson: “Calum Robertson, who worked for Savile Row’s “Waistcoat King”, tailors stunning waistcoats from Nigerian hand woven aso oke cloth. Choose your fabric from centuries old classic patterns or the latest designs from the inexhaustible creativity of Yoruba traditional weavers.”
So chaps, get in board and breathe in, your waistcoat will be individually tailored to your measurements in the bespoke tradition of London’s historic tailoring centre.

I’ve been on a killer hunt for high waisted leather brown belts for aeons and aeons. Not too branded and bling, not too dull and anonymous, and finally Oliver Bonas answered my prayers. A veritable assortment of paraphernalia that left me gawping for hours, in one of the best neighbourhoods this side of the river. Delightful treats and trinkets!
