Futuroscope - Poitiers

avenue René Monory, Vienne, 86360 Poitiers

01-11-2009

Interesting theme park with many things to see, themed around the cinema. The park has several IMAX cinemas, some with flat screens and some with hemispherical domes, some normal and many 3D. As with all such parks waiting times can be long, between 15 and 60 minutes, but it's generally worth the wait. Restaurants on site are reasonably priced, parking costs 6 euros per day and there's an Auchan right next door if you want to take your own food. A site worth seeing, and it takes two days to (nearly) see it all.

Scheunecafe - Äußere Neustadt

Alaunstr. 36, 01099 Dresden

The food is nice at the Scheune, but if you are a Brit expecting an Indian restaurant ou will find a few surprises. Having everything turn up at once - starters and main courses - is one. Dishes are not too spicy, and several of them come with nans etc, which is a little unusual.

Ristorante & Pension Il Camino - Loschwitz/Wachwitz

Friedrich-Wieck 45, Loschwitz, 01326 Dresden

Nice restaurant, reasonably priced food, good quality. Given its location it’s a pity it has no view of the river, but that’s a minor point. We thought the food was excellent.

Cinemaxx - Blasewitz

Loschwitzer Str. 52, 01309 Dresden

Cinema showing regular films in original versions, or nearly. The soundtrack is English, but any subtitles will be German. But hey, we saw Ein Quantum Trost as soon as it came out, so we are not complaining. Tram 6 or 12 to get there from the centre of town.
