Hot Stuff - Vauxhall

19 Wilcox Road, Stockwell, London SW8 2XA

29-03-2010 (updated on 05-11-2010)

I used to like Hot Stuff, but prices started to creep up, once was charged £35 for a lunchtime meal for 2 - the meal was no different to one which I paid under £20 for a year earlier. I recommend that you take a note of the prices when you order. Food Ok, but as an Indian colleague of mine said - he would never go there again.

mindenjoy Shame man. The prices are still crazy cheap. We go there every week, and it's infallibly good. I actually get excited about the food in there!

Cafe Nero - Wimbledon

6 Wimbledon Broadway, London SW19 1RF

The worse espresso I have ever tasted! It did not bode well when the non-existent crema dissipated by the time I'd walked two steps to the table leaving a very dark liquid. To me, there was about 1/3 more coffee than there should have been, but this was made from a semi automatic machine ?? ! sachet of sugar did not help - it tasted disgusting - a second sachet still did not make it any better, just a little less disgusting. "The best espresso this side of Milan" - I think not, unless the guy serving you happens to be called Milan!

Cafe Italia - Kennington

I agree, one of the best coffee bars in London, would have given it 5 stars if consistently good

Fat Leo - Brighton

One of my favorite restaurants. Very good quality food at fantastic prices - you cannot beat it. If you want Michelin star food, with small portions and high prices then stay away - for excellent value then come here - you'll get a meal for two with drinks here for the same as you'd pay for a meal for one elsewhere.

The coriander - Kennington

I've been here once and I certainly wouldn't rate it as the best Indian in London. Food was very bland and tasted manufactured. this might be the best Indian in Kennington Lane, but htere again, there's only one.

Munal Tandoori Nepalese Restaurant - London

76 Central Road, London KT4 8HX

29-03-2010

I discovered Munal about 4 weeks ago, and since then have had 3 takeaways and eaten there once. I've passed it since it opened about 12 years ago, put off because I didn't really know what Nepalese food was like and have never seen it very busy - don't get me wrong, they're busy, but not as much as some WP establishments. I came across when looking for a takeaway, and this was the top rated restaurant on a curry rating site.

The food is fantastic - nicely flavored, lots of sauce and very fresh, without a hint of oil unlike some curries. Service is very efficient and friendly. Give it a go and don't miss out like me.

Fisherman's Workshop - Dorchester

Trinity Street, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1AP

07-02-2010

I stumbled across this place whilst trying to find the Post Office (it's between the post office and Argos) - immediately I was attracted by it's rustic charm. Bily is very friendly and entertaining. The fish was fantastic - very fresh, simply cooked to perfection. So why have I rated it low? The prices !! Fish ranges from £12 for cod haddock up to £16 for sea bass and £30 for a lobster. Starters are about £8. However the main course prices DO NOT include veg - another £3.50 for re-fried potatoes and £3.50 for a watery side salad (a salad spinner would have fixed this), so the cheapest main is £19 !!! Puds (Bread and Butter Pudding, Cheesecake, Eton Mess are £5.00) and although wine starts at £12, these were not available so we had to settle on a £18 bottle of Pinot Grigio (which retails at £4.50). Total cost for 2 people was £75 for 3 courses and a bottle of wine, which I think is very excessive. Whilst the fish is excellent, the side orders and pud was nothing great. For me, this was worth half of what I paid - 2/3rds absolute top - £75 was way too expensive, and I would not return again. It hurts me to write this review as Billy is a really nice guy - easy going and entertaining. If he sorts his pricing out he could be much more successful, but he can't get away with Rick Stein prices in what is a shack! (although I like the shack and informal atmosphere) I left dissapointed that I'd paid way over the odds -Sorry Billy.
