In terms of brand MOMA does give you lofty aspirations. So when you pop around the corner from the main street to this former Tabernacle you might be forgiven for being a little disappointed!! Well take a deep breath and downscale those aspirations and then you’ll enjoy a short visit here. Your enjoyment will depend on what is being exhibited here. When I last visited the show was not very good. I think half an hour to an hour is enough time. But Machynlleth is a great place so make this part of your day.

I love this place. I think the food is just so healthy and lovely. My kids were very happy to eat here. In fact we had lunch and then returned for tea!! My in laws had trouble getting the message about not taking a books worth of napkins but I don’t think the place is too preachy. Great place to learn about what is going on in the area and plan you stay. Do agree the tables are a bit sticky. Only reason it doesn’t get a five.

Everytime I look at my celtic cross I am reminded of this place. A great collection of Welsh crafts. the very word “craft” can mean naff(!) but not here. You’ll always find something beautiful to buy. In fact I was admiring a heart at a friend’s house in Northamptonshire and she said she’d got it from here! Everything from jewellery, furniture, to pottery. You can have a go too if you want. The cafe was ok and there is a good playground. If this is your first visit and you’ve got kids you will usually combine it with a trip to Arthur’s Labrynth.

Although from South wales my only trips to North Wales had made me groan as a kid! Not so since I’ve been an adult. We have friends who have a house in the area on the mountain in fact. It is stunning, beautiful and achievable to climb. Look out for the remains of the world war plane - enough to get little boy’s legs walking. The scenery and lakes - bathe in it if you are brave enough. It’s very cold even on sunny days! - are amazing. And, as has been said, the path down is fortunately much easier. I think if you only climb one mountain in the UK - make it this one. If you start early enouhg you can have a swim on one of the great beaches before bed.

This a great day out form the time you take the funicular up the mountain to the exhibits to the views to the wonderful organic food - you’ll have agreat day. Oh and you learn lots of practical things which will help you save the planet or save money for yourself or both - whichever floats your boat! my kids had a great time here. Lots of courses from one day courses to an Msc.
