Waitrose - Southsea

32 Marmion Road, Southsea PO5 2EJ

16-11-2008 (updated on 27-11-2008)

If it weren’t for the fact that it’s a bit expensive this would be my supermarket of choice. Their curries in the chiller are divine, with authentic flavours and regional dishes.
They have a salad bar with a great selection, and their fruit and veg is top notch.

They sell beatiful cut flowers and pot plants, and have excellent magazines and recipe cards totally free!

I’ve never had to queue at the tills and the staff are very helpful.

The Tenth Hole Tea Room - Portsmouth

Southsea Golf Links, Eastern Parade, Southsea, Portsmouth PO4 9RF

16-11-2008 (updated on 25-11-2008)

This place is truly one of Portsmouth’s hidden gems. With an abundance of fuchsias in hanging baskets the tea rooms are a wonderful place to go for afternoon tea, a hearty meal or delicious breakfast. The food is all home made and their cakes taste as amazing as they look! In the summer I think there is no nicer place to go and eat outside, and in the winter it’s nice and cozy inside. I don’t think there is a better place to visit on a beautiful summers morning, either for a cup of tea or a full English breakfast. The memories of such times truly bring a smile to my face and make me yearn for next summer!

Marmion Tavern - Southsea

Marmion Road, Southsea PO5 2NU

16-11-2008

I heard that the marmion tavern has an extensive cheese menu, so decided to take my daughter for lunch there. If you like cheese it’s well worth a visit!n They have an amazing selection, while it’s not cheap I do think it’s good value for money. I also found out from the bar man that they have rather a nice selection of Vodka too! but for lunch time there are plenty of lighter potions too! this pub is a nice little surprise.

La Croissanterie - Southsea

54 Osborne Road, Southsea PO5 3LU

16-11-2008

I used to visit their shop in guildhall walk (it’s closed now) and developed my love of their tuna croissants! Their croissants are the most delicious and buttery I’ve had. They do a great range of baguettes , and I like to treat myself to a spot of lunch there. Prices are very reasonable and the staff very friendly. In fact writing this review has reminded me that I haven’t popped in there in a while so I think I shall have to treat myself.

Owens - Southsea

81-83 Palmerston Road, Southsea PO5 3PP

16-11-2008

I’ve been drinking in Owens (just every now and then) for years. It’s a popular location for a drink after the Race fir life every year! the drinks prices are pretty reasonable, and they did it up not so long ago so the interior is pretty comfortable.

Snookies Cafe - Southsea

82 Osborne Road, Southsea PO5 3LU

16-11-2008

This used to be a really great cafe, but in my opinion it hasn’t been able to keep up with the competition that have opened up right in the middle of Palmerston road. Snookies is a pretty big cafe and I’ve never had trouble finding somewhere to sit. The coffee and cakes I ordered were pretty mediocre.

New Look - Portsmouth

160-162 Commercial Road, Portsmouth PO1 1EX

16-11-2008

I will never understand why the largest branch of New Look right in the city centre stopped stocking the plus size range. there are plenty of plus size ladies in Portsmouth and on enquiring I was told the nearest branch stocking the range was Fareham, However on a chance visit to Cosham I found they stock thew range. New look is a pretty good value fashion chain, with several branches in Portsmouth.

Asnu Toys - Southsea

113 Highland Road, Southsea PO4 9DD

16-11-2008

This shop has been around for years, and it a great place. Kids grow of stuff so quickly and there’s lots of life left in their toys, especially as brands like playskool are made to last. Prices are very competitive as you’d expect and service is great.

Gilberts - Southsea

181 Eastney Road, Southsea PO4 8EA

16-11-2008

Gilbert’s is THE traditional sweet shop, so fantastic that is immortalised on the Portsmouth edition Monopoly! I have shopped in Gilbert’s as long as I have lived here, there’s is nothing quite like buying a quarter of your favourite sweets, make mine toffee crumble or jelly babies please - yum! They have row upon row of jars to choose from! I could tell you all sorts of things about Gilbert’s, but if you don’t know Gilbert’s all you need to know is MAKE A TRIP AS SOON AS YOU GET THE CHANCE!

Buckwells Of Southsea - Southsea

70 Osborne Road, Southsea PO5 3LU

16-11-2008

This is a fantastic butchers if you are looking to spend a bit more and buy something a bit special. It is a bit like a deli inside with a great range of chutneys and preserves, a range of savoury pastry and ready to cook dishes. You pick up freshly prepared beef wellington to cook at home and many other treats. If you are planning a special meal, but don’t have the time or inclination to prepare everything yourself you will find plenty of choices here.
