The Union is split into a number of sections so I shall divide them into the following 'miniviews’:
1. Blue Sandwich Shop
Incredibly cheap deli counter with a wide selection of lovely sandwich fillers for the unbeatable £2.25! Outrageously attractive staff who have no right getting their hands dirty for your lunchtime enjoyment when they should by all rights be modelling for Vogue/FHM/Playboy.
Nice hot drinks too.
2. Union Shop
A shop. In the Union.
3. K2 Nightclub
Only really alive on a Saturday night for the famous 'Rock Kitchen’ (not my cup of tea, but those who like it, love it). Also hosts one-off studenty events, usually run by students themselves.
4. MancUnion Bar and Food
Not as cheap as it used to be (we said a collective goodbye to the legendary 99p-a-pint days last year) and therefore not as alluring, as price used to be the main factor in a visit. Food is cheap and cheerful and there are a couple of pool tables.

This colossal pub in Withington serves average food and has a small selection of bitters but is overall a good place for an afternoon drink; there is always a seat and you can invariably get a good spot to watch one of the many big screens if there is a football/cricket/darts match on.
I can’t say I’ve ever made it through to the beer garden, probably because it is so far away from the door, but I’ve only heard good things!

5-7pm: All pizzas £5
A great deal as the pizzas are delicious and well worth a fiver.
Drinks are fairly expensive but the place has a nice atmosphere and good service - perfect for a quick bite in central manchester.

First discovered by my housemates in those heady days of late '08, who, in a drunken moment of clarity, decided to stumble through a mysterious covered doorway next to Solomon Grundy’s on Wilmslow Road. Since this exploration into the unknown depths of this great underground bar, Indigo has placed a sign outside for the benefit of the curious passer-by.
Free peanuts + Live music + Candlelit chunky old tables = Jonny’s favourite bar in Withington.
