Costa - Ealing

6A Oak Road, Ealing, London W5 3SS

17-12-2008

In comparison to the other chains in Ealing, Costa does it fairly well. Though its cramped interior is a slight turn-off, in the Summer, it’s a joy to sit outside and watch the world go by.

The quality of coffee is certainly above-average, and the pricing is fair, but that doesn’t apply to the food; A small selection of paninis and cakes - delicious, but not cheap.

Costa is Costa, you know what you’ll be getting every time and this branch doesn’t deviate from the formula.

Starbucks Coffee - Ealing

The Broadway, Ealing, London W5 3SS

24-10-2008

There are 3 branches of Starbucks in Ealing Broadway.

One of them is away from the centre, near Walpole Park. One is located centrally; on the edge of the shopping centre.

This branch is perhaps the best located of the three, mere seconds away from Ealing Broadway station, and accessible from Haven Green. I’m not a great fan of their coffee, but getting a frappaccino in the Summer months having walked off the microwave of the central line at rush hour is fantastic; and it’s well placed if you want to pick up a quick sandwich.

The usual criticisms apply as with all branches - weak coffee, average food, and high prices considering what you’re getting.

If you’re looking for a decent coffee and somewhere to sit down, the nearby Cafe Chi does the job much better.

Bagel Factory - Covent Garden

18 Endell Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9BD

24-10-2008

Great for a quick lunch on a day in the city.

The fillings are wide ranging, along with a selection of different bagels (poppy seeds, seseame seeds etc.). The hot drinks are fairly priced and often better than the usual coffee shops (starbuck’s anyone?).

Overall, Bagel factory provides a great lunch whilst on the move, or during your lunch break. They have outlets spread thoughout central London.

Mrs Muffin's Tea Shop - Ledbury

1 Church Lane, Ledbury, Herefordshire HR8 1DL

10-10-2008

Absolutely wonderful tea shop found down a beautiful cobbled street in the quaint little town of Ledbury.

The cream teas are to die for, along with some fantastic ice cream in summer. The service here has always been great, and the delicious food is great value for money. If you’re ever in the area, Mrs Muffins would be a great stop.

Haven Green - Ealing

Ealing, London W5 2NX

09-10-2008

I’d be inclined to agree with you about Haven Green, but I’d also like to add in the fact that during the Winter months, Ealing council has decided to situate a gigantic ice rink in the middle of it. The area already has enough people, and this structure takes up all the empty space that was once there. Even worse, the rink seems to leave a massive marsh in its wake when they remove it.

If you like ice skating, why not just travel to Queensway?

It’s just another way for the council to rake in money…

St. Paul's Tube Station - City of London

Cheapside, London EC2V 6AA

09-10-2008

Having commuted to this station for almost 3 years, almost nothing has changed. The station has been under constant building work, with little progress for months despite signs that say otherwise - “work on tiling the platform is nearly complete”... apparently not - wires and steel girders petrude from the ceiling and walls, and the escalators break down fairly frequently. One wonders what they do when it’s closed at weekends.

Surely one of the capital’s greatest landmarks deserves a station that is less of a small hole in the ground, and more of a modern, fast moving station that is expected from both commuters and tourists alike.

It has a small shop in it… and the station is conveniently located for many people. Other than that, it’s scarsely more than an overcrowded rabbit warren.

Argos - Ealing

71 Ealing Broadway Centre, Ealing, London W5 5JY

08-10-2008

The Argos in Ealing Broadway is one of the most poorly designed shops I’ve ever seen. The entrance and exit are in completely different places, including an escalator that rarely works.

The service has always been slow, and I’ve noticed a tendency to skip numbers.

So the typical Argos fare, but with the addition of a terribly designed shop floor. There’s a few things that you might want to buy, and Argos has always been useful for the odd piece of furniture or living room trinket. There’s always a use for Argos, whether you like its dodgy system or not.

Primark - Hammersmith

1 Kings Mall, King Street, Hammersmith, London W6 0PZ

08-10-2008

It’s Primark… there isn’t really much else to it.

As the previous reviewer stated, this only adds to the “cheapening” of Ealing Broadway and follows the recent trend of shop closures and pound shop openings.

It isn’t entirely bad if you want cheap clothing with footprints on it, but I’m not convinced that it appeals to everyone.

Definately not me…

The Natural History Museum - Knightsbridge

Cromwell Road,, South Kensington, London SW7 5BD

08-10-2008

A great place to visit with the family - always something new to see and do. Of course it’s free, but the food in the museum is horrendously overpriced. Nonetheless, a fantastic day out for all.

The Lantern - Ealing

Uxbridge Road, Ealing, London W5 3NN

08-10-2008

Probably the best Greek in Ealing.

This family run business has existed for many years - testament to the quality of food and fantastic atmosphere in the evenings. We’ve frequently eaten here with the family, and I’ve yet to be disappointed. Beautiful live music and great service complement the fresh, tasty Greek dishes.

I think it’s an undiscovered gem to many; but once you’ve been here once, you’ll keep coming back!
