Koko - Camden

Occasionaly, this club is a good visit but i wouldnt go here as my regular place to party! The venue sort of reeks of old theatre style as its smothered in red and gold - not that this is a bad thing. Its a nice change to the blandness of a lot of clubs.
Drinks are pretty expensive and you can wait to be served for a little longer than i like too. Quing is a big part of the night here as you will almost certainly have to que to get in. I think i qued the best part of two hours here once… before i made friends with the manager! lol!
Although primarily a cllub they do occasionally do live music and gigs in the week so its worth looking out for them too.
If you want to go somewhere that will definately be packed then this is a very safe bet!
The Lock Tavern - Camden
35 Chalk Farm Road, Camden, London NW1 8AJ

This place has a great atmosphere and even more so on nights when they have live entertainment. I have been here two or three times and i always leave happy.
The people who frequent here have money - but it is not a pompous or stuffy place. It is actually very friendly and relaxed.
They have a nice outdoors area and an upstairs terrace.
It can get quite busy here especially on saturday evenings as it is a really popular place. That being, i would get in early and have some food. The food is ok priced and is actually pretty good. the drinks are ok priced for the area too.
The staff are really nice - even the door bouncers are pretty cool - so go and have a good time!
Camden Market - Camden
104 Arlington Road, Camden, London NW1 0JH

This is a must see when visiting london. It has such a mix of goods that it will please any one. It has cheap goods, expensive goods, well made goods and bric a brac! There are food places including cafes, sweets, buns and cakes, full on meals such as thai and chinese - and there are crepes!!! :)
It really is a shoppers paradise.
I once visited camden to pick up some cheap gear and left with a vivien westwood corset that was worth £800. I have since sold it and lets just say i made a tidy profit!!!
Very much worth a visit even if you are not planning on buying anything!
cah197 Why is it whenever I’m abroad and I say I come from London (because I can’t be asked to explain in more detail), they always respond with “Do you live near Camden Market?)
The place is legendary! Of course I just say “yes, I do live near there.”

Subway - Cowley
175 Cowley Road, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX4 1UT
26-03-2008
I am afraid i do not get the whole subway craze. I think if you review one you are reviewing them all. They are a chain and are very static.
Okay, they are a good change from the fast food joints - but why not go to a little cafe or a pub or a lunch deal at a restaurant?
So - you pick the type of bread you want: Plain, chessy, italian herb etc, then you pick the size: 6’’ or footlong, then you pick your filling and whether you want just the sandwich or the meal (which includes a drink and a bag of crisps or a cookie).
The fillings range from ham and cheese, tyriaki chicken … to the un-doubtful most popular meatball mariana. I have tried about 4 flavours and have never been impressed. Although the meatball came close.
The problem is the bread is just SOOOOOOOOOO bready! Not sure if that makes sense… but its too much bread! And i love bread! But this is too much. And it always tastes bland to me.
I didnt think i was picky and i have really tried to enjoy subway, but i am sad to say that unless there really was no other option i would not have one again. I would prefer to pop into KFC.
Ask Restaurants - Oxford
5 George Street, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX1 2AT
26-03-2008
Ask is okay but is not the best pizza/pasta place in town. Bella Italia is better.. so too is the new italian thats not long been open. The prices are ok, the service is okay and the food is ok.
They have a good range of pizzas and pasta though not as good a range as Bella and not as good quality as Zizzi’s.
If you do not want a pizza or pasta then there isnt a lot on offer…even the salads are lack lustre and very un-inventive.
If i was to eat here again i would probably have the mince meat calzone that my friend has as that was probably the tastiest meal. My chicken pizza was ok at best and a little dry.
Primark Stores - Oxford
27 Westgate, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX1 1NU
26-03-2008
I love primark and i have no problem what so ever buying from here, as i have been doing for as long as i can remember. The Oxford store is very large spanning across two floors. On the lower floor you will find ladies clothes, jewellery and shoes and on the upper floor you will find ladies underwear, night ware, children’s clothes and shoes and menswear. There are changing rooms on both floors - ladies can use the upstairs one as well as downstairs. There are also tills on both floors. Two on bottom and one till on top floor.
I have always bought my tshirts, vest tops and alike from here as well as clothes for my holiday. They have always lasted and fit me fine. I bought a coat once and the fabric had a really bad smell and the buttons all popped off so i bought that back. But my other coat was fine so i think you just need to be careful. The shoes are great and cost about a tenner!! The jewellery is cheap and mostly beads - none of mine has broken but it doesnt look expensive so if you want silver or imitation gold go elsewhere.
Primark have always done great looking underwear but have really upped their game lately. Not only does their current range look better than what is in ann summers at the moment, but they have also started to do big sizes… not for bigger people (although they do that as well) but whats really great is they are doing big ssizes for smaller girls - like 32F!!! ITS great! SAVES SO MUCH MONEY!!!
anyway, have a browse… bet you will come out with a few bargains!!!
Eggs Eggcetera - Oxford
67 Botley Road, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX2 0BX
26-03-2008
If you ever find yourself this side of town, or working in one of the many shops in the retail parks of botley rd then this is the place to get your lunch.
It is a little local shop selling eggs, milk, tea bags, canned goods, newpapers… but it also capitalises on being near so many shops and retail outlets by providing tempting lunches.
Firstly for the healthy people out there, they sell fresh fruit. Lots of fresh apples, bananas and oranges etc.
The for the less healthy - there are biscuits, fresh cakes, packet biscuits and crisps. In the fridge there are milkshakes, yoghurt’s and canned drinks.
But the great thing is the hot tray, the fresh cakes and the sandwiches.
The hot tray has pasties - meat, veg and cheese, spring rolls - meat and veg, and all sorts of savoury pastries. They are all really good. I especially like the spinach and ricotta fold.
I do not know if they make them themselves but i dont care - they are good.
The cakes are fresh tasting and change a lot. But i have had a great carrot cake and a lovely chocolate brownie. Yum.
They do every array of sandwich on bread - white or brown, roll - white or brown or panini - hot or cold. The fillings include chinese chicken, chicken tikka, lamb and mint, ploughmans, prawn and avocado, Club, chicken and bacon and lots of veggie ones too. You can pick them out of their fridge otr if you want one that isnt there they will make it. They will also do hot paninis.
This is a great change for those who work or live along botley rd from the McDs up the other end.
The Red Star Noodle Bar - Cowley
187 Cowley Rd, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX4 1UT

This place is great but it is ALWAYS busy meaning sometimes there is no table or at least you need to wait for one. But this is also a good think as its a sign of being popular! Me and my pals have eaten here time and time again. It is quick and easy.
The staff are nice and friendly enough, the place is clean and the food is good. Very authentic.
My favourite is sweet and sour and the noodles are to die for. They taste so fresh and eggy.
Really good - though perhaps not for a proper sit down meal.
The Cornish Pasty Shop - Oxford
5 Cornmarket Street, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX1 3JD
26-03-2008
I got a pasty from here on my way up the Carfax tower a couple of months ago. I am not really a pasty fan but wanted to get something hot and quick that i could eat while i walked. There was a small que and there does always seem to be one here so i took that as a good sign.
I chose to have a small sized traditional pasty for about a quid. You can also pay more for a larger one. On top of this they have different flavours such as mint and lamb which sounds good.
Although the pasty was good you could tell it has simply been heated by them and not made there by the people behind the counter. It was nice and hot and it was adequate. Especially as the price wasnt bad.
However, if you want a good home cooked pasty or are going to opt for one thats a lot more than a quid - then find somewhere else. Im pretty sure there is a pie and pasty shop in the market.
Ali's kebab van - Oxford
Woodstock Road, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX2 6HS
26-03-2008
I have to agree with andrew on this one, this is the BEST kebab place in oxford… and not just for the kebabs. On many a lonely monday or friday evening when i was trudging back from town to cowley i would stop and treat myself to a moderately greasy but extremely fulfilling kebab from here - they are very good in comparison to most.
And the chips are amazing. They are good hearty HOT chips and dont taste like they are dripping in oil. Crispy on the outside soft in the middle. Cant believe im saying this about a kebab van lol!
This kebab van almost always has a small que at about 2am and its easy to see why. Just because were drunk doesnt mean we dont know a good kebab from a bad one!
