the blossoms - Lytham St. Annes

Lytham St. Annes, Lancashire FY8 4EF

10-12-2008

Nicely decorated pub, warm and cosy despite big quite a large place. Good range of items on the menu, snacks to steaks. Things that let this place down are the fact that you always have to wait ages at the bar to get served for drinks/food and if you order sandwiches they put them under the hotplate so the bread is very dry and needs to be sent back. Main meals are average, it’s not expensive for the area and has a nice atmosphere.

Burger King - Bamber Bridge

Lostock Lane, Preston, Lancashire PR5 6BA

10-12-2008

Good sized Burger King with all the usual BK burgers, it is often quiet and you can get served quickly (except peak weekend pm times) staff are good but it’s necessary to check you have the what you ordered if you get any special orders as they have missed off ours a number of times.
Good parking in a handy location. Minus side is that it is never very warm in there, probably due to it being a largely glass building.

b & Q - Bamber Bridge

Preston, Lancashire PR5 6BD

10-12-2008

Large B&Q on a small retail park. Lots of parking and very handy for M6/M61/M65.

Good selection of the usual paint and hardware. They have a good interiors section with curtains, rugs, blinds, cushions lighting etc.

Bought Christmas tree there and it was a decent price for a fresh, healthy tree.

Good selection of offers, always something to buy!

Sainsburys - Bamber Bridge

Cuerden Way, Preston, Lancashire PR5 6BJ

10-12-2008

This is one of the lovely big sainsbury’s. The fruit and veg is generally really good and they have a good selection of 'free from’ foods. They have a nice selection of wines and beers. There is a good sized clothes department which has some really nice designs and quality is better than most supermarket clothes. They do regular offers and there is usually a bargain to be had in the home wares department. Staff are generally friendly and helpful.

They have a petrol station which is the cheapest in the area.
matalan/B & Q very close by.

Hospital Inn - Bamber Bridge

Brindle Road, Preston, Lancashire PR5 6RN

Lovely little country pub on outskirts of Bamber Bridge. A really good range of snacks as well as a full menu. Only ever had one bad meal there, have been many times since and it has been back to the usual good stuff! The sandwiches/rolls are fab, great big doorsteps or warm ciabatta rolls, with a variety of fillings…from plain cheese to steak and stilton all served with a generous portion of kettle type crisps and fresh salad. Service is great and the drinks are fine….they have guest ales for anyone interested in that sort of thing. Play nice music (Jazz/Blues/buble etc) in the background. There is a nice beer garden. Prices have risen a fair bit in recent years though. Recommend the steak and ale pie…Yum!

bowling green - Charnock Richard

preston road, Chorley, Lancashire PR6 7AU

I’m not really a fan of Carvery but this one is actually pretty good. Food is usually very good, especially at fairly busy times of day as it is replaced often. The Turkey is great and is always cooked perfectly and you get a very generous portion, there is also the option of ham or beef. The Yorkshire puddings and potatoes are fine and there is a good choice of vegetables. On the down side it does get very busy and you can have to queue at the bar for ages for drinks and then at the carvery for food….disabled toilet is really grim!

Bruccianas - Preston

91C Fishergate, Preston, Lancashire PR1 2NJ

28-11-2008

Fabulous cafe in the city center, takes you back in time with the theming and it does look like it has been there for many many years. The coffee and cakes are great and a reasonable price. Sandwiches are tasty but the milkshakes are really lovely. Lots of seating but the loo’s are down some pretty steep stairs. Always busy but that just adds to the fabulous atmosphere!

Pizza Express - Preston - Preston

14-15 Winckley Street, Preston, Lancashire PR1 2AA

28-11-2008

Lovely setting on the edge of Winkley Square, but still in the heart of the city center. Good, friendly service and very tasty pizza that’s much lighter than the other pizza places. Great pasta and the salads aren’t bad….Beer/white wine is nice and cold. Enjoyable experience!

Pizza Hut - Walton-le-Dale

Capitol Centre, Preston, Lancashire PR5 4AW

28-11-2008

This Pizza Hut is pretty good, it’s next to the Cinema so handy for a pre/post movie meal. It’s a fair bit quieter than the other ones in Preston and you can always get a table. It’s generally pretty clean and the food is good. On the down side it can be a bit chilly and because it’s generally quiet if they get a bit of a rush on you can wait a fair while as they just don’t have the staff…..all round not a bad PH!
