Lisnagelvin Leisure Centre - Derry/Londonderry
Richill Park, Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland BT47 5QZ
17-09-2011
Here I am just back from lisnagelvin leisure complex for a swim with my son and what can I say? I suppose I should start with the good things about the pool and then move onto the bad things the staff.
The pool is fantastic for kids with a sloping depth and 4 slides all slightly different but not to extreme for young children my son loved the green one. The pool was also not to busy with only about 20 people in total in there. The water was about the right temperature with not to much chlorine in it so all in all a fantastic pool for young children.
Back in the days when I was about 10 the pools in my home town in England started to do sessions the same as you do here this resulted in the pools being under used. I now believe that all pools in the mainland do not have sessions and if you wanted you could stay in it all day (as I did when I was a child).
Changing room.
I fail to under stand why the changing room (all that I have been to in Northern Ireland) are open plan. Is there any reason why they can not modernise and have cubicles and lockers for people to use?Staff.
Well firs of all I was greeted with a very unfriendly woman telling me its 10 mins before the next session started and I was then ignored for the next 10mins whilst she counted money. We was not even allowed to pay and go past the barrier until she was good and ready to take my money off me like she was doing me a favour. Off we went to the changing rooms and handed in our basket to another member of staff who could hardly manage a hello a smile or even a word at all. After getting out of the pool 30mins later (changing my self and my son took more than 30 seconds) off I went to reclaim my basket only to be greeted with the same ignorance as when I dropped it off. The just to top off the nice pleasant nature of the staff one of the members of staff (who I recognised as a male pool attendant) decided that holding a door open for a child walking behind him is not required and just let it go if I was not able to hold my son back the door would of hit him.
Well all said a done my son had a good time despite the attitude problems of the staff, if this was a private not council run pool I recon the attitude would be different ( its amazing what job security does).
Will I go again? Yes as my son enjoyed it but maybe next time I will have the same attitude as the staff there and see what happens or maybe after reading this someone will give the manager there a bit of a wake up call.
