YO! Sushi - St David's Cardiff - Cardiff
St David's Shopping Centre, Cardiff, Wales CF10 2EF
03-10-2010
Having first tried Yo! Sushi's food at their Bristol (Cabot Circus) restaurant I have to say that I loved this overpriced bit of food.
As soon as I knew it was coming to Cardiff I got excited about it... but that was about it... Food doesn't seem to beat the other branch of the chain... Tamago was frozen, Crunchy Tofu wasn't crunchy... just a big disappointment really.
After several months I came back and I have to say that it is better, the Tamago is now served as it should (even though the Crunchy Tofu still isn't crunchy) but the food is still expensive... I either have a big appetite or those tiny bitsy portions are made of rice shaped gold.

We were a bit afraid of how this place would turn out to be as it was our first ever B&B but it didn't disappoint at all.
Mike & Penny made us feel right at home and were pretty laid back.
As soon as you arrive at Solva from the East you find a really nice little town, colourful houses and a really cool harbour. That is the Lower Solva, the B&B is on the more residential Upper Solva bit, the surroundings aren't as jolly as the centre of town but still very nice. We were advised by Penny to go through the coastal path down into town and it was an amazingly relaxed experience, we got to see the tide coming into the little harbour.
But now for the review of the place:
It is a family home with a converted 2nd floor, where you have two bedrooms, Skomer View and Ramsey View. We stayed at the Skomer View one, where you have... well.. a view of Skomer Island, really on the far far background though.
We were very impressed by the size of room, you have a kind of a little inset balcony by the window to relax, which made it even nicer. Every room has an ensuite, very well maintained. Can't fault anything on the room, the bed was comfy, clean and you even had a window on the roof to look at the stars.
You are given with a menu for breakfast which you give to the owners and in the morning (between 7.30am and 9am) you go to the communal room, just below our room, to have your breakfast. The food is lovely, homemade and just perfect. Mike came around with the newspaper and everything.
I was really impressed (as I am saying a lot). Would completely reccomend the place, the only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was just because the house is a typical thin walled one and at night you can hear people talking which kind of put me off sleep. But I would still go there again and again.
Specially for the lovely place and the lovely price! At the time was £30 per person per night.
Llety Teifi Guesthouse - Cardigan

Having stayed here for a night only on a short weekend break I have to say that after seeing the photos on their website and seeing the real thing I was pretty disappointed...
Don't get me wrong, the room we stayed in was really well decorated, had a nice fresh wallpaper and a classic bed. But when I booked it, I was let to believe that we were staying on a big double room, as it was the top price they charge... no, that didn't happen, just an ordinary double room, where the window didn't shut, the heating didn't work, the door handle was falling appart and we even had the bonus of having hairs on our linen... yeah. Great!
The worst part of it is that after the last guest checks in, the person responsible for the guesthouse leaves... leaving the guests on their own for the night. That for me was a bit of a novelty, as usually a person in charge should stay there with the guests... right? What about if something happens? Like... having a pretty cold night.
After the night we had breakfast and that wasn't too bad, the only thing that puzzled me is that you needed to go to the next door guesthouse to have it, but I thought it probably was owned by the same person.
I have to say that the guesthouse looks really good, a very old, traditional house in the middle of the city but.. just doesn't cut it.
The fact that I did point these issues to the owner and haven't got a reply yet also didn't help my opinion.

Went there for the other half birthday with high hopes. Unfortunately didn't really met them.
At first I really liked the café look and feel, found rather strange we were the only ones there though. When the waitress came along I found it very homely and cosy as she was really nice but after the 30/40 minutes the food took to arrive it was just plain food... nothing really special. The mrs had a veggie moussaka that half of it looked like mashed potato (not even bechamel) and I had boiled veggies in broth.
All the good reviews we heard from friends went down the drain. It has indeed a traditional feel about it and apparently they even have a private room upstairs for big groups and it's free... but all that didn't really reel me in.
Sorry.

what a fantastic place to visit! just came back from a lovely weekend spent there, was expecting it to be big but not THAT big! you can easily lose a day on there!
the trip started really well with the offering of a year round gift aid ticket, as they are a charity by donating the ticket price to them you allow them to claim back the tax from your ticket fare, that way everyone wins! plus they allow you to come back again for a whole year. That is clever thinking!
After you get past the entrance you face a glorious view of the project! it really is amazing, the architecture is sweet and it just made me want to get in there! you have 2 choices on the biomes (greenhouses), either the Rainforest one or the Mediterranean one. even if they are very interesting I would definitely reccomend the Mediterranean first so that you can be gobsmacked with the Rainforest later on!
it was a very well spent day, you find plenty of stuff todo/learn for kids and grown ups. If there was something bad out there I would have to say the food at the Mediterrabean restaurant.. it is over priced and not that good... apart from the garlic ciabattas, those were good!
Chillies Indian Restaurant - Cardiff

Went there, as part of a group, for a late night meal at around 22:30 and they were kind enough to let us in and I really appreciated they did because for a little restaurant they do pack in the flavour.
I have to say that I'm not really big in Indian food but at the price of £9 for all the delicious food you can eat hardly anyone can beat it.
I definitely recommend this, though I have to say to not get scared by the very poor decoration, it just looks like you entered an old mate's rented flat... it's the only thing I think should be dealt with, other than that really good!

Fast, semi-affordable and tasty noodles. I have also spotted this shop in Amsterdam first but never there ate in one until today, I have to say that I was really pleased with it, the food is really tasty and the concept of you choosing your main ingredients works really well, for your stomach and your wallet, since the noodles already come with a selection of vegetables on top as standard.
The things I didn't like... Service wasn't the best, the waiter was a bit rude, never looked at us and took a LONG time cooking a fast meal. Also I think the menu should include different types of noodles, like what Noodle Box at Cathays do.
On a positive note I have to say that I couldn't finish my lunch and saved it for supper, it kinda gives you a 2 in 1 deal! Think about it.

As soon as you enter it you know you are on a franchise, despite all the efforts they went through to make it feel personal and as if it was genuine they just can’t achieve it. Everything feels fake.
The food was average (not really Italian), I did enjoy it but it wasn’t out of this world for the money it was. It is a great place to go with friends though! Or if you are having a birthday party you get balloons and the lights dim just for you! It does get irritating after the third time…
Would suggest this for a friends night out or a fun date. Food is ok, facilities are good and the speed of service is ok, they did take a little bit but nothing that long…

Having never sit down there for a proper meal and only had a take away I have to say that I really enjoyed my lunch, they give enough food for 2 or even 3 people on their wraps. Really nice value for your money and you get to see them cooking/grilling your wraps.
My only if about the restaurant is that they were way too slow doing their stuff, I had to wait around 15 to 20 minutes. Which is a bit too much for a wrap.
If I ever go there to have a proper lunch will report back but if you are hungry and enjoy North African food this is a very good place to go!

Been there a few times already and each of the times it didn’t disappoint me, it is a very young and cool place. You wouldn’t see this out of place in the middle of Barcelona, or other trendy city.
I really liked their cocktail options, a really wide menu with some really tasty ones. The thing I am yet to try is their food but I’ve been told it is very very good, specially the brunch!
The first time I was there was to see a design exhibition they had on display and that really interested me. After that I went there for a mini festival, with music, design, food and burlesque dancing! A strange mix but that went down really well. I am hoping to attend the Northcote lane market! Will report! ;)
If I had to say something bad about it it would have to be the indifference of the team, they were a bit rude and didn’t seem to care about the customer. Other than that it is faultless! Do try the Yurt! On a hot day it looked a bit stuffy but on a cold winter day it does looks lovely!
grahamf the more I read, the less I like the place. Good staff attitude is crucial - they don't deserve any customers if they are that compacent and rude.
